Chapter 46 - Marriage proposal

She schemed to ruin Yougal Lucas' blind date with Nirvana at the risk of her own life. She could have ended up with heavy injury. She thought with indignation. "For who did I risk my life? For you Yougal Lucas, only for you." She screamed at the wall, throwing the pillows to the floor. "Yet you've insulted me in front of a woman who looked like a beggar in her ordinary clothes."

She forgot that nobody had asked her to what she had termed as 'risk her life'. The truth which she won't whisper even to her was that she had paid the driver to hit her car against a tree. After that the driver left and she slipped into the driving seat. She acted the panicked part and called Yougal Lucas in his phone.

Ahana knew he would come because of Amaaya and her husband Mayank. The day before the so called blind date of Yougal Lucas and Nirvana, her cousin Amaaya told her about it. Amaaya praised that woman Nirvana as the perfect match for Yougal Lucas.

"I gave her the punishment she deserved. She, my own cousin thought of another woman as his perfect match. I'm his perfect bride. I, Ahana Barua is Yougal Lucas Sinha's perfect bride to be." She cried aloud. This time the hand bag landed with a thud on the floor.

The maid who was eavesdropping outside the door of Ahana's bedroom rushed to the elder madam's room. The maid knew something was wrong with Ahana ma'am. So despite being asked to get lost she glued herself to the door of Ahana's bedroom. She was a young maid fond of gossip. But the loud cursing, incoherent rambling followed by crashing sound shook the daylight out of her.

Ahana Baruah was the only daughter of the minister of Public Works Department of the state. She was the pampered princess of her parents and two older brothers. She was twenty seven and her mother was worried about her marriage. She would pester Ahana's dad to find a good alliance for their daughter.

But to her dismay Ahana rejected every marriage proposal that came for her. Good marriage alliances were hard to come by. Being the daughter of a minister did not mean that she had the privilege of getting any man she wanted. As her mother, Mrs Baruah knew where her daughter's eyes and heart lay.

But Yougal Lucas Sinha was not one who cared about money or the power that came through marriage. They owned eleven percent shares in the Sinha Construction but with that number of shares they could exercise little to no influence either on Yougal Lucas or on the Board of shareholders.

When the maid informed Mrs Baruah about Ahana shouting and throwing things in her bedroom, she knew that it might have something to do with Yougal Lucas. She knocked on the door and asked Ahana to open it.

"Open the door Ahana. Screaming and throwing things won't solve your problems."

Ahana, who refused to let her mother in, at last relented and opened the door. Her mother did not find it strange to see make up items, decorative pieces, pillows, bag lying scattered on the floor. She looked at her daughter and asked what bothered her.

"Mom, she is back. That woman is back."

"Who's back?"

"That woman Nirvana, Yougal Lucas was supposed to get engaged to, she is back."

For Yougal Lucas Sinha, it was another busy day at the office. There was a meeting with the Marketing and HR departments to make strategy to attract guests to their hotel in one of the tourist destination where there was a steady flow of tourists from September to March. This whole period was festival season in Gangtok.

The meeting continued for the whole morning, from ten in the morning to one at noon. With the suggestions pouring in from many and the endless discussion to increase the market presence or attract more guests during the festive period, Yougal Lucas gave the participants in the meeting a short break of twenty minutes.

As he walked to his office room, an assistant from the secretary's office informed Yougal Lucas about the Public Works Department Minister Apurba Baruah waiting for him in the waiting room with his daughter. His brows furrowed as the news caused great umbrage. It had been only a week since he warned Ahana not to meddle with Nia.

'Does this woman not understand plain, decent language?' He thought with irascibility. He could not entertain the father daughter duo for long hours. He had an important meeting to attend. Yougal Lucas sat on the swivel chair behind his large office desk and asked his PA to show the guests into his office.

Yougal Lucas did not feel it necessary to go himself to the waiting room to welcome the minister. He was not a rude person but in the present occasion he thought it necessary to flaunt his position.

After Ahana and her father sat down on the chairs across him, Yougal Lucas greeted her father, minister Apurba Baruah.

"To what do I owe the pleasure of this visit? Is it anything related to the shares?" He asked with a slight smile but his voice was cold and without any emotion.

Yougal Lucas looked coldly at the father daughter duo sitting in front of him. Actually he did not even spare a glance at Ahana. This woman sitting with her father in Yougal's office was a synonym for the word trouble. The man before him was a powerful one, a minister but he did not care.

In the past the minister had offered to help Yougal's construction company in securing government projects. He owned eleven percent shares in the Sinha Construction. It was like he wanted to help himself by helping the Company. When Yougal Lucas took over the Company after the death of his grandpa and parents, this man was among his opponents as he wanted his elder son to be the CEO.

Yougal Lucas sat with an impassive face as he listened to the man. The minister looked confident as he must have thought that he was giving the younger man the chance of a life time by offering his daughter's hand in marriage.

"My daughter is beautiful and accomplished. Besides that think of the power this alliance will give to you." Ahana's father smiled condescendingly at Yougal Lucas.

Yougal Lucas gave out a cold laugh. "Forgive my plain speaking. But what power are you talking about? Shall I be sitting on your minister chair?"
