Chapter 26 - My heart quiver for a glimpse of you

It had been eleven days since the doctor operated on Yougal Lucas' grandma. Her condition was more stabilized now. And that willful grande dame was already giving hell to everyone to have herself discharged. Only her equally domineering grandson could say no to her face. She cajoled, threatened and threw tantrums, but nothing worked on him.

Her surgeon Dr Eden Bairagi and cardiologist Dr Nihar Bordoloi suggested that she should be kept at least for five or six more days under special medical supervision at the hospital. That obstinate woman, Lucinda Fiona Sinha almost fainted with anger when she heard that.

She wanted to make a call to the director of the hospital but no one was ready to give her a phone as Yougal Lucas issued 'No Phone for grandma' instructions. The old lady tried to bribe the nurses on duty but they only shook their heads, refusing to accept her lucrative offers.

When he received the news of his grandmother's critical condition while he was in Leh Ladakh, Yougal Lucas felt dizzy and lifeless. God bless his grandma, for without her existence the world would loss meaning to him. She and Yana were the two most important persons in his life. A burden was removed from his head watching his grandma recovering well.

The works at the office had been piling up but he could care less as long as his family was okay. In the evening he went home early from the hospital. It was a long day with the morning starting with the visit to the hospital, then the loads of work in the office, again hospital in the evening. He missed his little angel whom he met only three days ago after more than two weeks. It was eight in the evening. He knew his little girl would be waiting for her papa.

He missed her too, that beautiful, mysterious witch who had cast a spell on him. He had not had a chance to catch even a glimpse of that keeper of his heart since the dinner at the house of Nicholas' parents. Almost two months passed. 'How is she doing? Does she ever think about me, even cursing me for whatever reason she hates me? At least she will be remembering me.'

Yougal Lucas laughed at the turn of his own wayward thought. Since he met her he had stopped functioning rationally when it came to her. His lonely heart yearned for a glimpse of the woman he had been falling deeper and deeper in love. A selfish urge took over him, to be the keeper of her mysterious heart. He was thrilled at the idea of being the custodian of the secrets of that heart.

He wanted to possess her, occupy her thoughts, possess her heart, body as much as he wanted her to possess his everything. He did not want to cage her. Yougal Lucas wanted to be the soulmate of that wonderful woman Nia Sonowal. He was intoxicated by the ineffable beauty and mystery surrounding her. He wanted to prove to her that he was not a bad person. Only he did not know how to do that.

Like the magic of a witch everything about her irresistibly drew him closer to her. As the dark power of the black magic she controlled his whole being. Her thoughts brought him anguish, because he could not have her with him, yet it also brought him happiness. To Yougal Lucas she was the black witch, she was the white witch. Nia was the healer who could cure his ailing heart.

'When grandma becomes a little more better I'll tell her about Nia. I know she'll forgive me for my mistakes after she meets my Nia.' He was pleased with his thoughts. He further thought that he must do something to create opportunities to meet her. Yougal wanted her to know him better, to like him.

Yougal Lucas decided to make the move before Mark Adam beat him in this war and succeeded in conquering the heart of his healer. Nia did not like him and seemed resolved to be the black witch. 'She'll learn to love me when she gets to know me. I must not allow Mark Adam to snatch the chance to be by her side forever.' His eyes glowed with determination.

To add to his distress, playboy Mark Adam suddenly started behaving like a salvaged soul. He believed that someone like Mark Adam did not need a white witch. It was his soul which was in pain, which needed the healing touch of the benevolent white witch. He could not let Mark Adam steal his chance at having the elixir of life. She was his elixir of life.

Yougal Lucas thought of confiding in Nicholas about his feelings for Nia. Though he suspected that Nicholas already conjectured about his feelings for Nia. He would ask Nicholas to arrange for a double date, invite Nia and of course without disclosing it to be a double date. 'How long will I have to wait before she accepts me?' Yougal Lucas felt desperate as that thought crossed his mind.
