The wind rustled through the leaves and grass, bringing the fresh smell of nature blowing through Kegans nose. He could hear the sounds of trees blowing, and also a slight whirring sound created by the wind. He looked around him as far as he could into the trees. He couldn't see anything besides trees and plants. The fear slowly ebbed, and his racing heart also slowed enough for him to think logically. Did his friends really bring him into this forest just to prank him?
He wasn't an outdoors person in the slightest. But he had been pranked by his friends before, and it had never been anything like this.
"I'll just look around first." he thought as he stood up from the embrace of the wet grass.
Something was telling him that this was not a prank, but he desperately wanted it to be. He struggled against his emotions for a moment, before willing himself to walk towards the trees.
Kegan wasn't a scared person by nature, but he had always been scared of the wilderness for some reason. He never liked to even go outside much, unless he had too.
The surrounding trees loomed upwards, their branches swaying with the wind. Most of the trees had bases that were about 3 feet in diameter. Their bark was rough, and it was exceedingly thick.
Kegan ventured forward, gritting his teeth, trying to keep the forest sounds from his ears. The strong smell of pine wafting through the air, helped ease a little of Kegans anxiety of the unknown. When he got to the border of trees, he stopped as he thought of something.
He reached into his pocket, trying to grab his phone. Maybe it could tell him where he was, he thought as his hand arrived inside his pocket. He couldn't feel his phone in that pocket so he tried all the other pockets, but his phone wasn't on his person. He started to panic, but he got a hold of himself, as he reminded himself that his phone was charging and not on his person.
All his pockets were empty, and the clothes he had on were the ones he was wearing at the party yesterday. He walked through the trees quickly, avoiding all the fallen logs, and thick bushes, which would likely trip him.
When he walked through the trees for a half hour, he came into another small clearing. A flock of birds that were eating on the ground, flew into the treetops letting out their small cries. The grass on the ground was thick and green, with a few dry leaves laying on top. Many different smells assaulted Kegans nose as he entered the clearing. He could also hear a rushing sound. He hadn't been by a river in the wild before, so he didn't know right away that what he was hearing was a small river.
Kegan moved towards the rushing sound, when he saw numerous cattails growing along the shoreline of the fast moving river. The water in the river looked sparkling clean, and didn't have any noticeable contaminants. Every once in a while, a stick or a leaf, would drift along with the river floating on top of the water.
The water flowing in the river, looked quite appealing to Kegan, he had never seen water that looked so fresh and inviting. He noticed his mouth was quite dry, most likely from the alcohol he drank the night before. He wasn't completely sure if he should drink the water, but the enticing look soon conquered, and he got down on hands and knees, bent and took a long sip of the ice cold water.
When he had taken in a sizeable amount of the water, he stood and checked his surroundings closely once again. He was quite sure his friends would have come out by now. But they hadn't which made his doubts grow only bigger in size.
Maybe he was just paranoid from his basic fear of the wild. He didn't know why he was fearful of the outdoors, he just was. It could be because he never went outdoors when he was growing up, and heard the stories of wild animals that were mean, and would kill people. You could say he just had a fear of the unknown. In the wild, unexpected things happen all the time, and their is constant danger.
Kegan finished swallowing that overly refreshing water, he sighed as he was getting sick of waiting for his friends to show theirselves, so he might as well just try finding his way out of this dense forest. He looked at the water with a disappointed look, because he didn't have any container on his person that could hold water. But he could always come back and get some more, so his worries melted.
Kegan walked back the way he had come, once again avoiding all the possible pitfalls. When he had walked for close to an hour, he still hadn't found a road, or any sign of man. He was gulping in deep breaths of the cool humid air, as he tried to steady his breathing. He had never worked out, or challenged his body in any way, so he was poor sight to see. His thin body had no shapes of muscles, and he also seemed to be missing the fat of someone who constantly eats and sleeps. He was covered in sweat from head to toe, which could be unexpected, considering the cool weather. His face had also lost a bit of its previous color, resulting in his face being white in color.
Their was also a pungent smell wafting out from Kegans sweaty body. If anyone else had been around they would have puked numerous times. His body looked and felt like someone that had died for a few months, and then awoken from the dead.
The fear of getting lost in the wild, erupted in his heart. This was not a prank, he was quite sure of it now. If his friends were pranking him, they would have shown themselves long ago. But just what could have happened? How did he arrive here? His mind was full of questions, as he tried to force the impending fear from his heart.
Kegan stooped and sat on a thick log, that was missing its bark. He had to think of a way to get back to modern civilization. What was really confusing is that he somehow arrived here in the forest, but he couldn't remember a single thing. He had always been a light sleeper, and he would wake up at the slightest sound, but he didn't wake up even once when he was coming here. But he was drunk when he went to bed last night, so that could be the reason he didn't awaken once.
Kegans mind was running at maximum capacity, trying to figure out what happened, when he heard a voice that sounded neither male or female, just a high pitched metallic sound...
