While pondering on what to do while stroking Leona's head like a cat, my mind suddenly shifted to Almira's request. For some odd reason, it pops up on my head.
Right!
The Scrolls! Making scrolls is not yet a big hit in the market but sooner or later, its business will boom. Also, the scrolls contain unimaginable power in the game. Obtaining one is quite difficult especially those scrolls dropped by monsters and bosses. Scrolls can cast spells without consuming any kind of mana or having a cast time delay, easily casting devastating spells that can turn the tide of a battle.
After finding out the true power of the scrolls, the job of Scribes became popular. Scribes can create or invent different scrolls that holds power. According to my past experiences and knowledge, reaching the pinnacle of the EX Job which means reaching level 100 on that job can allow that person to replicate and make the scrolls that are only dropped by bosses. However, those are mainly rumors and I have not seen anyone mass produce those scrolls. If so, then the game might have already progressed to fast.
According to my knowledge, the job of Scribe is learned here in this town. There is a shop here that is currently selling papyrus which is the main paper used in making scrolls. If you bought 200 papyrus at once, he will ask on what will you do for that kind of amount of papyrus. If you said that you are practicing in making scrolls, he will allow you to learn the basic of scroll making. Of course, papyrus are not only for scroll making but also for cartography which will be a useful job when the time for the expedition to the new continent is released and those mapless dungeons.
With that, I ventured deep into the town market. According to the Intel, the shop was located around the bookstore. They mainly sell papyrus, ink and quail feathers. During the time of the early parts of the game, these shops are too spacious and you can buy immediately. But after the scroll discovery, the papyrus became in demand and shops like this are all crowded by Scribe players everyday and buying papyrus became hard. That is why, I need to take advantage to this way that the crowd is not yet developed.
Entering the shop, I quickly saw its shopkeeper currently scribbling on a piece of papyrus. He was about the same age of me and he looked quite young. In my information, this is the guy and he was revealed to be a level 99 Scribe which is why he can make scrolls. He didn't seemed to get to the pinnacle so that is why he decided to set up shop here and sell papyrus while practicing on making scrolls.
When he saw me enter the shop, he quickly adjusted his clothes and hides the materials he used for making scrolls. I have no idea on this one but I hope it will do.
"Do you sell papyrus in its lowest quality?" I asked.
He looked at me and pulls out one on the drawer.
"We have. How many pieces do you want to buy?" he asked.
"Um... around 400 pieces," I did not exaggerate this time. I know its a lot but I have no experience on making scrolls at all. I have not taken the Scribe as an EX Job as I thought it was hard. Besides, many players are already doing it so I decided to stay away on it for now. However, this time is the right time for me to get to learn this one.
He stood up and with a flick of his hand, he gathered all papyrus necessary.
"10 silver," he said extending his hands.
Of course, papyrus were quite pricey for normal players but for me who gets them easily by killing monsters, its not a big matter. I put the 10 silver into his hands and I picked up the papyrus. As expected on his reaction on the papyrus on my hands, he asked the question I am anticipating.
"What are you going to do with that amount of papyrus? Its quite a lot if you ask me," the shopkeeper asked.
"Oh, this? I will be making scrolls," I answered without giving the reason yet.
Hearing that I will be making scrolls, his interest was piqued.
"But all of them are low quality and the scrolls that will appear on them after is not that going to be too strong," he said.
"Well, I am still trying to learn on how to make one. I don't know the fundamentals yet so I bought a lot for practice," I answered.
Hearing this, he chuckled and pull out a magazine similar to that of what Simon has given to me when I was trying to get the Alchemical Practitioner Beginner Book Guide.
"Read that so that you can get a fundamentals on it. I know you immortals have the ability to learn anything inside that book without reading every content. Its on the house," he said nodding.
I see, well I already expected it but he knows the abilities of Immortals I see. Quite knowledgeable for an NPC. I opened the magazine and the Latin words were slowly embedded into my mind and in a sudden, I can feel that the content of the magazine was already imprinted into my consciousness.
"Congratulations for becoming a Scribe"
"Thanks a lot," I smiled and handed the magazine to him.
"Just let me know if you want to buy another batch of papyrus, don't forget to visit my shop," He said as he take back the magazine.
"I will," I said to him.
I also bought the quail feather and ink needed to write the scrolls before leaving the shop. Now that I can create scrolls, I will be able to create a few scrolls that can match against the boss in the cemetery.
Arriving back on the room, I immediately begin the scroll making. Just like the normal scroll making in wuxia novels and light novels, dropping blood to the ink can cause mana to flow on and allows magic to form. After doing so, I pulled out one papyrus and began on looking at the magic circle of Fireball in my skill panel. Every Magician, Holy Knight, Magic Knight, Cleric and a few of the Paladin's magic skills has a Magic Circle on its description. The purpose for those is to allow players to copy it on the papyrus and make a scroll out of it. Putting the magic circle on a papyrus with the blood of a Scribe can allow the magic circle to function like normal magic cast by a magician.
Of course, with me a s a beginner alongside with my sloppy writing, I messed up a lot of my papyrus to scrap. These scrap papyrus are no longer salvageable so throwing them away is the only way of disposing it or burning it. Nobody is perfect and even me makes mistakes. However, after the 20th time, I managed to make one scroll.
"Congratulations for making Fireball Scroll(Poor)!"
Well, I succeeded and my level in Scribe rose to level 2. I checked the stats of the Fireball Scroll.
"Fireball Scroll(Poor)"
Consumable
Calligrapher: Bladeheart
Effect: Conjures a single fireball out of a single scroll. Will be unusable after use.
Description: A scroll containing the Magic Circle of a Fireball Magic. Despite being called a scroll, it was poorly made and can only be used once and its destructive power is reduced greatly.
Well, that is expected. Having a poor quality scroll, being used once is its characteristics. I did not mind if it is usable only once as long as it can procure a fireball. It can be used to roast a few monsters or let the campfire ignite. But other than that, it is useless. I already know that so I don't have to keep on fussing on it.
With it done, I decided to continue producing a few scrolls.
...
By the time I checked my clock, it was already 10 in the evening. I did not even get to eat and my hunger and thirst bar are all almost empty. I sighed and look at the result of my efforts. I managed to create 53 pieces of Fireball Scroll, all in poor quality out of 100 tries. Quite satisfying but not enough. With a few success, I only managed to level into 4 and I can now perfectly create a Fireball Scroll. But if I wanted to raise the scroll's level, I have to buy a few medium quality papyrus to create normal Quality.
I sighed and fetched food into the counter and return to my room and began eating my fill. Leona also did eat her fill as she devoured a few dishes along with the plates. I sighed and decided to pay the inn an extra gold as compensation for the plates. In the game, the tomorrow that the receptionist in the game already arrived already and it is today as it was morning already in the game. Packing all of the stacks of Scrolls to the Scroll Inventory Slot, I returned to the town hall with Leona.
This time around, the receptionist was already expecting me and smiled seeing me on the reception desk.
"Please follow me," She beckoned and lead me to the second floor of the town hall. The hall was not as grandiose downstairs. Instead, it was kept simple and tidy. Not even cramped and it looks clean. There was even a piping hot tea in the table, which the smell lingered in the air.
Mayor Bruno was standing in the window and was quietly sipping tea. He was similar to those old men portrayed in the movies with eyeglasses that allows them to look scholarly and that grey hair that is already a sign of their old age. I can see that he is a well built guy. In the past, I saw Mayor Bruno as a thin old man. Perhaps due to the problem, it caused him lots of stress causing him to reduce lots of weight. Now, he is still healthy and full of vigor.
"You must be the representative of the Holy Capital Headquarters," Mayor Bruno looks at me and sized me up, though I don't know if he can still see anything on me as I am still wearing the Cloak of Midnight and Mask of Oni which makes me wonder what is the purpose of sizing me up.
"Yes sir, the name's Bladeheart. I was an adventurer and was tasked to give this letter to you from the Headquarters," I said and handed out the letter towards him which he accepted.
"Wait for a while, I will read it," he said and seriously opened the letter. I waited patiently of course. After a few minutes, he frowned and pull out a paper from his desk and began writing there. After that, he issued the letter and handed it to me.
"Present this as an entry pass for the cemetery to bypass the guards guarding the entrance. Please help and get rid of the wandering boss. It will be our gratitude if you get rid of that enemy completely," He said with worries in his eyes.
"Rest assured mayor, I will send him back to his rightful place and purge the darkness of the cemetery," I said though I doubt if I can get rid of the ghouls and undead wandering there.
"Thank you very much. If you did manage to get rid of the enemy, please return here and I will issue a reward and honor scroll to recognize your contribution," he said and bowed deeply.
I bid farewell and took large strides towards the cemetery. And as I was approaching, I can feel the heaviness and the dangerous air around the area where the cemetery is situated. Quite bothering in fact. I presented the item that the mayor has given to me and the guards allowed me to pass. With a single step, a notification appeared before me.
"Player discovered Rosha Town's Cemetery of the Dead"
Looks like its time for me to purge. The hunt officially begins.
