Chapter 8 - Gate Guardian Contract

When the Gate Guardian made its move, I also made mine. I already defeated this guy in the past and now I face him again, I will not try the useless tactics I did in the past and I will make a whooping on his hard rock *ss.

The Gate Guardian looks like a Royal Knight NPC carved into the stone and it is known for its defense and attack speed. Despite being made from stone, the Gate Guardian still moves so fast like a normal boss. It's size is like mini giant, so it is just much taller to me than usual. I think about the size of the BFG? Many might say he is freaking huge, however, that is the only thing they have seen, they have not seen the tip of the iceberg since the Gate Guardian are one of the smallest bosses in the game. Too bad it is a mini boss, and if it is a real boss, it might drop better equipment. But despite being a mini boss, its not worse than a normal boss from a normal level dungeon. Many players underestimated this boss too much and ended up reviving back to the cathedral back in the starting town.

It has three skills and all of them are party wipe skills. I can clearly remember a helpful player in the past posted the skills of this boss for the sake of the newbie players and the strategy to beat him. His first skill is called the "Frenzy Sword Swing", in which the Gate Guardian swings it's rock sword around the area for 30 consecutive and fast swings. Many players are having a hard time dealing with it, and tried to do their best to look for a chance to stop it. Luckily, this skill has a 5 second interval before being used and during that interval, you can interrupt it from using the skill.

The second skill is rather bothersome especially to players who have low defense and low agility. It is named, "Ground Shaker". The Gate Guardian will slam its sword to the ground, causing a few fissures directed to the players and those players who are unlucky to dodge the fissures will suffer a defense down debuff and a series of damage to the players unlucky to get the caught by the skills. Many players cannot even do a single thing to evade this. Even the player who posted the guide cannot do a single thing to prevent it. However, I have my own style of dodging that so I don't need too much trouble and information on it.

The last one can contend with the tank players and many of them tried to find a way to stop the skill from activating. It was named as the "Final Stand". This skill is known as the berserk skill of the mini boss. This skill will activate once his health will fall below 1000. His defense will increase, causing normal attacks to only inflict -1 damage, movement speed increased too and last, and troublesome, its attacks gets difficult to read and usually casts the first skill, "Frenzy Blood Swing" without needing to pause like it always do when it uses the skill. But there is a hidden weakness once the Gate Guardian activates the skill. However, many players did not know this at first until the player who posted the guide publicizes the weakness of the Gate Guardian. Despite the Gate Guardian raising its defense to abnormal rate, its magic defense drops drastically making it very vulnerable to magic attacks.

The guide of this certain player made it into the dumps into the top of fame, especially to the new players who need to reach the capital after reaching level 10. The guide shows a lot of technique to deal with this guy, making the player who posted it, famous. Many players who passed the boss in the past by dying many times, only have to regret that they didn't encounter this guide.

This time, I am not going to use that guide. I am not someone who steals the glory of that player at all. I can't take advantage that I have traveled from the future back into the past. That is still shameless enough, stealing someone's limelight. I have my own strategy and with the help of being a Versatile Class, I can achieve my own strategy. This strategy is meant for a party of different classes and with my class that can use the skills and abilities of all classes, moreover, the weapon that I wield is clearly cheating. It can change whenever I wanted to that can be used to my advantage.

Magicians might be a good hitter against the Gate Guardian, but due to the fact that they needed to have a tank to aggro the boss due to their low defense is the most troublesome thing to do for magicians. But since I am a Versatile, my defense value won't change despite changing to a certain class, making this class too OP.

The Gate Guardian won't attack first to the player unless the player will do it first. Since that is the system, I will gladly oblige. I quickly activated the skill, Concealment and Silent Sprint together to move towards the Gate Guardian.

Concealment is a Ninja skill. Just base on the name of the skill, Concealment allows players to conceal their presence towards the enemies, allowing Ninja players performing a silent attack. Moreover, a successful silent attack can inflict bigger damage if used with another skill to strike and might cause a bleeding debuff. Though this usually make a good tactic against players and some enemies, this won't work against the Gate Guardian since stones don't bleed, they don't possess blood, for goodness sake. After closing a bit of my distance to the confused Gate Guardian, I quickly changed my Magic Sword into a beginner hook.

Hooks are the main weapons of the Alchemists. They are practically dangerous since Alchemists usually deal more in inflicting debuffs against enemies like poisons and sleep debuffs and they also team buff by giving potions made from their skills. Since most of their skills are timed effects rather than skills that inflict automatic damage, the system designed the Alchemists to be strong in using their weapons rather than relying mostly on their skills, making them hard to catch in PVP battles. Hooks are considered long ranged weapons rather than melee, the only thing is that this is the long ranged weapon with the shortest range compared to the guns that Gunslingers used and Bows that Hunters usually use.

The main real advantage on hooks rely on their ability to pull enemies towards the player and players can use this chance to slam the hooked enemy to the ground, causing a huge damage. No enemy is safe from this though it was nerfed later on, limiting only on using that skill against players and normal monster. They can't use that method against the bosses. However, since the hooks are not yet nerfed, I will use this chance to take advantage against the Gate Guardian.

I unleashed the hook towards the Gate Guardian, hooking him in result. The Concealment skill disappeared as it is designed to wear off after an attack against an entity is made. The hook manages to attach to its forehead, inflicting a small amount of damage.

-25

It might be measly damage but this is the biggest damage a non-magic user player can inflict in normal attacks, especially Swordsman and Samurais. With the chain attached connecting to the hook, I quickly retract the hook back, dragging the Gate Guardian along with the hook. I am quite familiar with the hook play style due to my former party guildmate who is an Alchemist, who keeps showing off every available technique everytime we party up which gets repetitive and due to that, I memorized those movesets and without hitch and yeah, I learned it. Now, I am actually using that kind of playstyle against the Gate Guardian.

I pulled the hook fast enough and with the right momentum, I hurl the huge and heavy mini-boss towards the ground.

"Break into pieces!" I quickly put all my strength into the chain, slamming it to the ground.

-1000

What a huge damage! Actually that was pretty strong! I never knew that a single attack like that can cause that enough damage to the boss! No wonder the game nerfed this skill. It was too OP. However, I can't use the same tactic again and again to this boss. The bosses in this game are intelligent and if they sense your actions are repetitive, they will learn to block the attacks of yours, making your usual tactic to fail.

I quickly retracted the hook back to me as soon as it detached to the forehead of the Gate Guardian and I quickly changed it's form into the staff. I quickly noticed that the Gate Guardian was inflicted by the Dizziness debuff which makes the Gate Guardian stunned for 5 seconds before resuming to it's usual activity. I quickly grab this chance to execute my plan.

"Ice Prison!" I slammed my palms to the ground, causing the ice power to crawl towards the Gate Guardian.

-100

Ice Prison might be just called as a skill for slowing and lowering defense of the enemy, but for me, that is not the case. Alternate World follows the physics rule. Any elements that is an anti to it, will naturally react depending on what reaction it usually shows in the real world. Ice Prison is just the first step. Encasing the Gate Guardian to the Ice Prison, it's body structure begins to crumble. I immediately followed up my attack before he moves again.

"Basic Fireball!" I released the fireball into my hands and with the Ice Prison still inflicted to the Gate Guardian, it doubled the damage it usually do. The ice also melted into the ground, making a puddle of water beneath the Gate Guardian. Also, it makes the Gate Guardian sopping wet.

-900

I am not yet finished with the combo and seeing it sopping wet, this attack of mine will now work despite it not working earlier.

"Shocking Lightning!"

Shocking Lightning is a skill that can cause light electric damage to the area being struck upon. However, this skill naturally won't work against rock type and only a minimal damage to plant type monsters. However, if this skill is combined like what occurred earlier, which made the Gate Guardian sopping wet, then the skill will naturally work. It disregards it's first properties and only follows the applied properties, which causes the electric to properly cause a shocking damage.

-2700

Holy crap! I almost killed the Gate Guardian with just that! From what I can remember, I inflicted a total of 4725 damage against him, leaving him with 275 health! He will probably use the skill, "Last Stand" and with the reduced magic defense of the Gate Guardian, a single fireball can cause -300 damage! One last push!

"Halt!" the Gate Guardian suddenly bellowed.

"Huh?" I was a bit confused. What happened? I didn't remember seeing this event before," I contemplated and tried to recall if this kind of scene actually happened but no matter what racking of my brain I do, I can't seem to remember it nor I remember this happening in the past. Not even any blogs and strategy in the past said this and from what I can remember, nobody ever encountered this.

"You are strong. I didn't notice that you are wielding the Versatile Weapon. I never expected that you are the one holding it since the beginning of the world. That weapon was lost in the mortal world after an accident in the heavenly domain. It was a weapon meant for a god but seeing you wield it makes me see you in another light. I want to swear allegiance to you, dear adventurer," the Gate Guardian said.

Holy crapper! This is an Allegiance quest! This is a rare chance and many players dreamed this in the past. NPCs or intelligent bosses who gets a strong and good impression to the player will have a rare chance to trigger this.

Allegiance quests are quite rare. Apparently, it is as rare as looking a diamond in the crowded road. NPCs and bosses will issue a quest to you that once you accept, will form a contract to you before performing their allegiance quest to allow them as your teammate. I never expected I would trigger this!

"Will you accept my allegiance sir?" the Gate Guardian bows down to me and the paper contract appear before me.

It stated that any entity showing allegiance to adventurers needs to perform a series of quests to complete. But after finishing the quest, the character that swear allegiance to you is going to be available for recruitment.

I grinned. This is rather perfect. An allegiance huh, I can't wait to test it out so I quickly accepted the contract.

"Congratulations for Player Bladeheart for unlocking the Allegiance system. Do you want to share it to the world? If not, you can remain anonymous," the system rang.

The contract disappeared and an exclamation point appears above the Gate Guardian's forehead.

" I see, I will try to earn this guy with me!"

...

Meanwhile while I was busy , everyone riled up. An anonymous player who suddenly unlocked the Allegiance system rose up many excited players for having so early event. However, I can only say that they will just be disappointed.
