Chereads / The Phoenix / Chapter 8 - The Journey

Chapter 8 - The Journey

Two days later, Lillian and Liana were getting ready to head out. They both had packed everything they needed, loading them up onto the carriage which Liana was going to ride in for the most part of the journey. When they were closer, they would send the carriage back, and Liana would ride to the tribe on horseback, while Lillian would ride on horseback the whole way. They were having a meal before heading out when Lillian suddenly thought of something.

(Lillian) "Uhm… Liana? Can I ask you a question?"

Liana raised an eyebrow, confused at Lillian's demeanour.

(Liana) "Sure, what is it?"

(Lillian) "You know when I was unconscious right?"

Liana frowned.

(Liana) "Yeah, what about it?"

(Lillian) "Err… Did anybody like… see me without my shirt on?"

(Liana) "Because the healers took over before the doctor could do anything… I was the only one… Why?"

Lillian let out a sigh of relief.

(Lillian) "I have some things that I don't want just anyone to see."

(Liana) "Like the tattoo on your chest?"

(Lillian) "You saw that?"

(Liana) "Yeah. There was an eagle, something that looked like it was supposed to be a shadow, and I think a wolf…"

Lillian's eyes widened.

(Lillian) "You saw the wolf?!"

(Liana) "Yeah… Why?"

(Lillian) "Well… as of now, there are only three people who've seen that. Yourself, someone else, and myself. I don't like doctors or healers seeing me without my shirt because of it but so far none of them have seen it."

Liana frowned.

(Liana) "So I am not supposed to be able to see it?"

(Lillian) "Not really. Or I don't think so. Maybe you're special."

(Liana) "What do the tattoos mean anyway?"

Lillian's face relaxed, and Liana had the feeling her face lit up slightly as she said,

(Lillian) "The Eagle is my clan crest, so is the shadow. The clans name when in battle is The Silent Shadow Warriors, thus the shadow. When out of battle, The Loyal Eagle clan, as you already know, thus the Eagle. The wolf…"

Lillian broke off.

(Liana) "I'm guessing by that you either mean you don't know, or you're not going to tell me."

Lillian nodded.

(Lillian) "Sorry. At least not for now."

(Liana) "It's okay. You can tell me some other time."

(Lillian) "Thanks."

A few hours later, Lillian and Liana were just about to set out. But before they did, Liana saw Lillian leading a horse out.

(Liana) "Wow! Is that your horse?"

Lillian nodded, smiling.

(Lillian) "Yep. This is Starlight."

(Liana) "She's beautiful. What breed is she?"

(Lillian) "She's an Andalusian Horse."

(Liana) "Wow."

Liana said as she stroked the horse.

(Lillian) "We better set off."

Liana nodded in agreement and walked over to the carriage.

(Liana) "Let's go."

Upon saying that, Liana got into the carriage while Lillian mounted Starlight.

*

After a few hours, Lillian, who was riding at the front, put up her hand, indicating for the soldiers, whom Lillian had asked to guard Liana for the first part of the journey, and the carriage to stop. She hopped off her horse and drew her sword. The soldiers, seeing this, walked over to the carriage and stood in a defensive formation. Two men came out dressed in black, and looked at Lillian, then looked at the carriage.

(Guy number 1) "Who are you and what are you doing here?"

One of the guys asked Lillian.

(Lillian) "Isn't that what I should be asking you?"

The guy looked shocked for a moment then regained his composure. Her voice, though slightly contorted by the mask, was still recognizable as a girl's.

(Lillian) "Get out of the way or you'll regret it."

The second guy laughed and said:

(Guy number 2) "She thinks we are afraid of her! Girl, we are not afraid of you, so don't think you can scare us."

As a response to this, Lillian, who was wearing a cloak, and a mask, took off the cloak, revealing her clothes. She was wearing black clothes that covered her from neck down, and gloves, not revealing any part of her body except for her face which was covered by a mask. The guys looked shocked for a moment then took a closer look at her.

(Guy number 1) "It's… It's… her! Let's get out of here!"

They turned and ran, but Lillian was faster than them. Faster than anyone could see, she overtook them and blocked their path.

(Lillian) "Didn't I warn you that you were going to regret it?"

The guys seeing no escape, drew their swords and charged at Lillian. But Lillian was too skilled and too fast for them. Before long, she had beaten and killed them. She hid their bodies, then went back to the carriage. Liana, who had gotten out of the carriage wondering why they had stopped, asked Lillian,

(Liana) "Where'd you go?"

Lillian smiled and replied,

(Lillian) "Deal with some guys who were blocking our way."

(Liana) "Okay, now you're creeping me out."

Lillian just smiled, put back on the cloak and mounted her horse.

(Lillian) "We better be off."

Liana figured she wasn't going to get any answers from Lillian, so she just went back to her carriage. She had peeked out to see why they stopped and what the shouting was about for a few seconds and thought about what she saw.

(Liana's thoughts) 'I wonder what all that was about. The guys just ran off after she took off her cloak. She must be known around here. I might get a chance to ask her about it later, but for now she looks like she doesn't want to talk about it.'

They continued their journey, only stopping to eat twice. A few hours after they stopped the second time, the carriage stopped again. This time, Lillian came over the carriage before Liana could get out.

(Lillian) "We are going to rest here for the night. Is that okay with you?"

(Liana) "Sure."

When Liana had gotten out of the carriage, Lillian spoke again.

(Lillian) "Sorry about earlier, I wanted to get here as quickly as we could. If you like, I can tell you what you want to know later."

This took Liana by surprise. She thought Lillian wasn't the kind of person to do that.

(Liana) "Err… Okay. After we set up camp."

Lillian looked at her face and laughed.

(Lillian) "You're not used to this right?"

(Liana) "Uh… Yeah."

(Lillian) "It's okay. We can just use magic to make the shelter."

(Liana) "Ok. But maybe you do it? I have absolutely no idea how to do that."

(Lillian) "Ok. Stand back a little."

Upon saying this, Lillian put out her hands and muttered some words under her breath. Liana watched in fascination as a dome formed in front of Lillian, big enough to house ten people.

(Liana) "Whoa."

Liana said, breathless. Lillian chuckled and said,

(Lillian) "Come on, let's go inside."

Upon saying this, Lillian moved her hands a little, and a door appeared on the side of the dome. She opened it, and walked in, beckoning for Liana to follow her. Liana followed her, staring at the door in surprise as it disappeared when she got in. Lillian saw her face and said,

(Lillian) "You like it?"

(Liana) "It's beautiful! I've never seen anything like it!"

(Lillian) "Nice."

(Liana) "Can you teach me?"

(Lillian) "It's very advanced… Maybe another time."

Liana looked a bit disappointed, but cheered up a little when Lillian said,

(Lillian) "I can teach it to you when your magic gets stronger, so just keep training."

(Liana) "Okay!"

Liana looked at the rest of the dome, their things were on one side, and there were two small beds at the other end. It was decorated so much so that Liana was wondering whether they would be staying there for more than one night, if not then why so much decorations?

(Lillian, through mind-link, to Liana, though Liana didn't know at first) "Thought you would be a little more comfortable if it was similar to your room."

Liana jumped when she heard it, but then realized it was just Lillian talking to her through the mind-link.

(Liana) "Why'd you do that for? You gave me a shock!"

Lillian didn't say anything, she just smiled.

(Liana's thoughts) Even though she seems like a grown-up adult, she's actually only about my age.

Liana thought, looking at Lillian as if she'd just seen her for the first time. Lillian saw her looking, and smiled, and said,

(Lillian) "We should get to bed. The rest of the journey isn't very long, but we should still get rested and ready for it."

Liana nodded and walked over to her bed.

(Liana) "Goodnight, then."

Lillian nodded and said,

(Lillian) "Goodnight."
