Two days later, Liana was sitting next to Lillian again, holding her hand, wishing she'd wake up soon.
(Liana) "Lillian!"
She exclaimed when she saw Lillian stir.
Lillian woke up, opening her eyes slowly, and getting a shock, for Liana was leaning straight over her, sitting straight up.
(Liana) "Whoa, whoa, don't get up so fast."
(Lillian) "Don't do that to anyone! You scared me!"
She shouted, panic fading from her eyes. Liana held back a laugh and apologized.
(Liana) "Oops. Sorry."
Lillian chuckled then responded by saying,
(Lillian) "How long was I out for?"
(Liana) "Today would be the third day."
Lillian's eyebrows shot up.
(Lillian) "Three days!? What exactly happened?"
(Liana) "You saved my life. But while doing that, you nearly lost yours."
Lillian recalled what happened three days back,
(Recollection) "Liana! Watch out!" Lillian screamed as she pushed Liana away, taking the arrow for her, then reading Drew's mind, even though there was no need to. "Guards! Arrest this guy!" Lillian screamed before Liana caught her. "I'm sorry. I'll explain later." Then it was black.
Lillian held her hands to her head and groaned.
(Liana) "Shhh… It's okay, just lie down for a bit more. The doctor said that once you wake up, you'll be fine."
Lillian frowned.
(Lillian) "The doctor?"
(Liana) "Yeah, I got the castle doctor to look at you. Is there something wrong?"
(Lillian) "Oh… And he didn't say anything… Strange?"
(Liana) "Strange… No? Why?
(Lillian) "Oh… It's nothing, just that I don't really trust doctors."
(Liana) "Okay… If you say so."
(Lillian) "Oh and Liana,"
(Liana) "Yeah?"
(Lillian) "I just wanted to say… Thanks. I know it must have been hard, what with your friend being arrested and all…"
(Liana) "No, I should be the one to say thanks. You saved my life out there."
Lillian shrugged.
(Lillian) "Well, that's what a bodyguard is for, isn't it?"
Liana chuckled, then said,
(Liana) "Let's be friends. Then I can watch your back too."
Lillian frowned lightly, but her expression soon relaxed and a smile came over her face.
(Lillian) "Friends. Sure, why not? Oh, and I suppose I owe you an explanation, right?"
(Liana) "Actually… I think I already know why you asked the guards to arrest Drew."
Lillian raised her eyebrows in mild surprise.
(Lillian) "Oh?"
(Liana) "Yeah the chief of the village conducted an investigation."
(Lillian) "And?"
(Liana) "Drew was part of the attack, right?"
(Lillian) "Right. Wow, the investigation must have been pretty thorough if they managed to figure that out."
(Liana) "There's more to it, isn't there."
(Lillian) "Yeah…"
(Liana) "Well, you can tell me about it while we make our way to where Drew is being kept. That is, if you're up to it."
(Lillian) "Okay."
Lillian slowly got up from the bed, while Liana supported her. The two of them slowly made their way to the door, then to the dungeons, while Lillian explained it to Liana.
By the time they got there, Lillian could walk without support. Lillian looked surprised at the state in which Drew was in, but she didn't say anything.
(Liana) "Surprised?"
(Lillian) "A little. I've seen worse. But what did they do to him?"
When Drew heard their voices, he looked up to see who was with Liana. When he saw Lillian, his eyes widened, but he couldn't say anything.
(Liana) "Not sure. But it's not good."
Liana said then chuckled.
(Lillian) "You don't seem to have any doubt that it was him. Isn't he supposed to be your friend or something?"
Liana shrugged.
(Liana) "Drew and I never really got along."
(Lillian) "Okay…"
(Liana) "Okay, now that you've seen him, I wanted to ask you a question."
Lillian looked surprised, then nodded and walked out of the room, indicating that they should not talk with Drew around, even though he was chained up. When they reached the hall, Lillian turned to Liana and asked,
(Lillian) "What is it that you would like to ask me?"
Liana saw the look on Lillian's face and burst out laughing.
(Liana) "Don't look at me like that. You just make me want to laugh."
(Lillian) "Why? What's so funny?"
(Liana) "Nothing. But I've just never seen you put a comical look on before. You should do it more often."
Lillian slowly started to smile, then suddenly she started laughing.
(Lillian) "Right. But seriously, what did you want to ask me?"
Lillian asked, putting on a more serious face.
(Liana) "Right. What I wanted to ask you about is related to how you got shot, how did you even move so fast? Or, for that matter, how did you even know that the arrow was going to hit me, and from which direction?"
(Lillian) "Oh. That."
She turned her head slightly to the side, avoiding Liana's gaze, then turned back to Liana.
(Lillian) "There are a lot of things you don't know about, whether it's about me or about other things. I suppose you probably want to know it, and you don't like being kept in the dark?"
(Liana) "Well, yes. Of course."
Lillian looked contemplative, then said,
(Lillian) "Okay. I will tell you. Slowly you will begin to know everything. But in time."
Liana looked doubtful but nodded. Lillian had a relieved look on her face as she said,
(Lillian) "Good. Now I expect you want answers?"
(Liana) "Yeah."
(Lillian) "Okay, go ahead and ask me any question you like. I will answer all of them. But whether you will understand my answers… I'm not so sure."
(Liana) "Really. Okay anyway. What I really want to ask you is, how did you even know there was an arrow going straight for me? Or, for that matter, how were you even fast enough to well, get hit by it? You were standing quite a distance away."
(Lillian) "Firstly, I knew the arrow was going straight for you because I heard it, then saw it. My senses are enhanced, but that's a matter for another time. I am quicker than most people, so when I saw that you were going to be hit by it, I did the first thing that came into my mind, take it for you. Now, before you say anything, I did think of the possibility of it killing me. But I'm quite sure this arrow was different. Usually it would take at least ten arrows to make me pass out, let alone for a few days."
Liana who listened with great interest the whole while Lillian was speaking, was silent for quite a while, then finally said,
(Liana) "Wow. I've never heard you talk for so long before. But what do you mean by your senses are enhanced, and why are you quicker than most people? Also, why was that arrow different?"
Lillian looked at Liana's curious, but earnest face, then chuckled.
(Lillian) "Whoa there, slow down a bit, would you? I will answer all your questions as I have said, but can we sit down somewhere?"
Liana realized they were still standing, then motioned for Lillian to follow her as she walked towards their bedrooms. Liana led the way to Lillian's bedroom, as she figured Lillian would be more comfortable in a familiar place. They both sat down beside each other on the bed.
(Lillian) "Okay, now I will answer all your questions. However, it might take a while. Not only because you have quite a number of them but also because the answers might have to be quite long."
(Liana) "It's okay, we have the rest of the day anyway."
It was about noon when she said this.
(Lillian) "Okay. Then, ask any question, but please, one at a time."
(Liana) "Sure, okay let me think… Why are your senses enhanced then?"
(Lillian) "Okay, before I answer that, I want you to answer a simple question. Do you know why your magic can be so powerful?"
(Liana) "No…"
Lillian nodded, then said,
(Lillian) "It is because you have a special ability. A special skill, of sort. But like myself, and unlike most people with special abilities, you have more than one. You can level up very fast, even when you're not training much. I could level up very fast as well. But it was to my surprise that I met someone similar to myself, who, other than the ability to level up faster, is also capable of learning a spell almost immediately. You only need to see the spell done once, then you will be able to do it. The mind-link spell that I thought you was for two reasons, one, so that I could see if you could learn it by seeing it done only once, and two, so that I can talk to you somewhat in private if anyone else is around. My senses are enhanced for a few reasons, one of them is that it's one of my special skills. Another is because I trained it to be like that."
Liana took it all in, slowly, and started to realize what it all meant. That was the reason Lillian knew so many spells and other stuff like that.
(Lillian) "Another one of my skills, is, as I have told you before, I can read people's minds."
(Liana) "Wow. Wow. Does this explain why I was able to do all those spells and change it when you asked me to? Also, do I have more skills then? You said that I have more than one."
Lillian nodded, then answered,
(Lillian) "Yes. Yes, and we will find out more of your skills as time goes by. I probably haven't even found out all of mine."
Liana nodded excitedly, then calmed down before saying,
(Liana) "We better take a break for now. You probably need to get changed, or take a bath, and so do I. We can meet back here or in my room later."
She paused, then frowned.
(Liana) "Do you need help with the bandages?"
(Lillian) "Here would be fine."
Lillian shook her head as she said,
(Lillian) "I'm going to take it off before I go for a bath. I can handle myself, thanks."
(Liana) "Good. Half an hour, then?"
Lillian nodded, smiling, then proceeded to step off the bed. Liana followed suit, and walked out the room, happy that she would finally find out all the things she'd been dying to know, at least a portion of it.
