Chapter 23 - Thanksgiving dinner

Thanksgiving day was filled with cooking and cheer. We all helped make the dishes and we invited the Keesner's over for dinner. They were going to bring the turkey and we were going to be making everything else. I was peeling potatoes and Marcos was chopping fruit for a fruit salad. Persephone and mom were busy baking pies and making several dishes all at once. Eventually Marcos and I were kicked out of the kitchen for 'getting in the way' , though we were both sitting down at the table doing what we were told.

Marcos and I sat down and watched some older movies. Gotta love John Wayne, I thought to myself as we zoned out. Marcos fiddled with his phone during half the movie but I didn't care this was only to pass the time. I heard my text tone go off and I went to go get it. I didn't really expect anyone to be messaging at all but you never know with being the boss. Once I seen the sender I could feel dark clouds looming over my head, swiping open the phone there in all it's glory was a message from Jacobi.

Jacobi: Hey Parker, happy thanksgiving! Don't forget about us.

Me: As if I could forget my new friends. Come on dude I'm coming back tomorrow morning relax.

Jacobi: seriously that's forever!

Me: are you a chick? I swear you are worse than a clingy girl

Jacobi: … -_- how dare you bro

Me: haha calm down I am only teasing you. Relax! If it helps I'll text you every couple of hours so you won't miss me too much

Jacobi: you said it! You can't go back on your words!

I couldn't help but chuckle at his antics. He acted like a love sick girl sometimes but he was a good guy. I shook my head and walked back into the livingroom where Marcos was nodding off on the couch. I sat down curling my legs up on the couch. I was in a pair of plaid pajama pants and a baggy shirt. My hair was a mess but I was comfortable(typical girl when at home) I knew that we had some time before dinner so I just casually sat there in my pjs with Marcos nodding off on the other end of the couch. I could hear mom and Persephone chatting away in the kitchen.

This atmosphere was the best I thought to myself as I settled in to finish watching the Duke. Time flew past and it was almost time for the Keesner's to arrive. I rushed to get changed and was looking forward to some good old fashioned traditional dinner with the Keesner's and us. Well with Marcos as well we had just placed our last dish on the table when we heard a knock at the door. I looked up and Mom rushed to open the door.

Sheriff Keesner and his lovely wife Pam were in their nice clothes and stood patiently at the door. They were raised in old country fashion despite us telling them they were always welcome in our home over the years they were still very strict about this habit of theirs.

We all sat down and we passed the dishes around and everyone got a little bit of everything except me but that was only because I don't eat meat. Which everyone knew to not give me the meat dishes. It was a cheerful Thanksgiving meal and we all chatted happily late into the night.
