During the firearms, situations changed with the innovation of gunpowder. A kid under the age of ten could fight on the battle and with a lucky shot, even the hardened veteran would fall just like nothing.
I could kill people with a gun, you thought so?
Let's look at the WW2 study on firing rates, do you ever wonder why the target for shooting practice was human silhouette?
We sometimes thought that we could kill if we use a gun, we sometimes thought that our testosterone could make us kill, however, the brains of human beings normally instructed not to kill other humans, some could if they were under the personality disorder we called a psychopath. Unless the situation in which hesitating to kill would be the surest way to get yourself killed, or any other external force drove us we would not kill. Those external force were many, folklore, justice, benefit, training, order from the higher up and the most efficient, a religion.
Remember Steven Weinberg, an American physicist who won Nobel prize, quotes?
"With or without religion, good people can behave well and bad people can do evil; but for good people to do evil — that takes religion."
It's true, isn't it? Religion could be either the subject or the object of violent behavior, religion and violence were not identical but they were clearly compatible.
Anyway, Noseth were pagan the war over religion never occurred, David also met Anshar and believed that everything would be fine since god was generous, but what if some gods get angry over David act? Will the said God send some prophet of his own? It was not like you could buy a new toy in the hope that children would be happy with the new one, some would just remember only the bad thing that occurred, it seemed David forgot that there were many gods here and how could he sure that all gods were the same.
Although, David modernized his army with standing army and reconstructed military organization. The structuring of the military forces in Noseth was frequently designed for a specific problem or task at hand, the use of ranks in a hierarchical structure was widespread use in Noseth and the line of command already had the term of chief commander, strategist, lieutenant general, and sergeant. What David did to organize his military was not just brought new types of an officer but to retain the older positions similar with Noseth people, but with the meritocracy system the ability of David's troops to fight was a lot different from the old days most obvious result was the improvement in the military capability of the army.
Another thing was how in normal time people in Noseth prepared their own weapons and armor but David arranged to supply them with equipment form the state treasury, although their gears must be returned as state property.
David ensuredthem of job security by promised that all professional soldiers who were recruited would be permanent employment for an enlistment term of 20 years full service and would be able to choose to continue in the career. Although, drilling and training took place all year round, even in times of peace, not like the old times that only gathered men when war threatened and trained in the hurry. Many men with less opportunity saw this as a chance and joined to seek military achievement. Finally, David granted retirement gifts in the form of many benefits, especially demihuman would granted full citizenship and even runaway slaves would be free If they fought for him and completed service in his army.
With these, David was able to standardize training and equipment while kept his men in peak physical condition and discipline by constant training, thus David's men became the best troop Noseth ever seen. They would follow him everywhere, conquered the vast central plain, reached the end of the world at the edge of Lanka, brought the west desert area to order and destroyed all remnants of his enemy.
Not only the using of standing army but David also reconstructed his army, except for the ruler of the country, everyone would fall under the same rule in the army and followed the strict line of command. All executive control and administration of military organization were typically undertaken by the army leader, the promotion or demotion evaluation would be base on the meritocracy system.
Most of the time, the rules were held in high regard, and after the disaster that led to the loss of his dearest friend Thor and his older sister, no one ever broke the rule again.
What about major military technologies like the world changing gunpower?
When he found out that Noseth did not even get a glimpse of gunpowder, David once thought about introduced gunpowder to Noseth, as it would raise his troops' military power by a fold. Even without a gun, black powder alone was powerful enough to blow even a weel train martial artist who could not foresee the deadly destruction force of gunpowder. However, he did not want to bring forth something that very hard to control into the delicate situation and he feared that gunpowder, which made us equal trough COLT, would be the cause of inhumane act he once heard from earth, a child soldier.
Some third world countries in Africa used children aged below 18 as soldier, since children were more obedient and easier to deceive than adults, also children due to their innocence were more willing to fight for non-monetary incentives and could be brainwashed into fearless killing machine by some idea such as; religion, honor, prestige, revenge, and duty.
Do remember the child crusade and their ending? Do you ever hear of Tamil tigers child soldiers? How about the Hitler youth? And the destruction of culture by Redguards?
But would everybody agree with David thought? What if someone already started without consideration? The road to hell is paved with good intentions and it seemed to start by some in the border town at the northern edge of the continent.
