Chapter 5 - Chen Jian

From time to time, I could sense that someone was staring at me. It was a different type of stare that everyone gave me earlier when I first walked in. It's the type of stare that will cause a chill down my back. I decided to give it a few more minutes in hoping that feeling will go away. But the longer I waited, the more intense the feeling grew.

I finally made up my mind and turned around to find out who was staring at my back so intently. My eyes scanned around the room to see that everyone was too absorbed in their conversation with their group.

All for except for one person who never took his eyes off her the moment she walked into the room.

At last, I finally made eye contact with him. He was the last person I wanted to make have small talk with tonight. He was no stranger since he was after all my ex-boyfriend, Chen Jian. His penetrating gaze intensive even more when he saw that I had taken notice of him. That look gave me a flashback from the last time I saw that look on his face.

It was the worst experience I had experienced within one night, causing me to go down the wrong pathway. Although, I wouldn't say it was precisely the wrong pathway. That night, we were celebrating Chen Jian's birthday at a fancy hotel, like the one we were at now. At first, it was just a casual birthday party until someone decided to bring in the alcohol. I wasn't going to have any until Min Huilang who was Chen Jian's childhood friend urged me to try a little. For some "unknown" reason after taking a tiny sip of the alcohol, it caused me to feel light-headed.

Min Huilang was nice enough to voluntarily take me back to one of the booked hotel room. Halfway down the hallway, I was left on the ground by her, and I could vaguely see that she was talking to someone the phone. Min Huilang took a glance at me before quickly walking away towards the opposite directions.

Slowly, I got up from the ground and was trying to open one of the room I thought that was the booked room. I didn't know whose room I had entered, but it magically clicked open right away. I wasn't sure what happened afterward as everything was a blur until I woke up. That was the first part within one night that was the worst.

The second part was when Chen Jian walked into the room witnessing my clothes scattered on the ground. I had only a thin blanket covering my naked body that had red markings from my neck downward. He stood in the middle of the room next to Min Huilang by his side. I wasn't even sure how both of them had entered the room or how many hours had passed when they found me.

Chen Jian was the type to always have a smile on his face, and it was hard to get him angry. It was my first time seeing him have a look of disbelief and betrayal written all over. Even now I could still hear him screaming asking "Why?" with a fierce glare.

"I-I" I couldn't give him an explanation either so instead I cried, pulling the blanket closer to me. "Please help me, Jian."

I gathered up the blanket on the bed to cover my body while tears stream down my face. Just the way Chen Jian had looked at me was enough to tell me that everything was over. When I looked back up, he was already gone, but Min Huilang stood there with a smug on her face.

"Someone like you does not belong to our world." Min Huilang snickered, walking out of the room practically skipping.

Because of this, I never attended the last few months of my school days until graduation. I locked myself in my room unwilling to talk to anyone about what happened. Until one day a hand reached out to take me out of that darkness. No one knows where I had disappeared to for the last seven years, and they never saw me again, until now.

However, I did hear that Chen Jian told Min Huilang to never speak of this incident ever again. Yet, somehow words still go out, and it spread like wildfire around the entire school.

I didn't care anymore at this point because I was no longer there to deal with the issue. It really wouldn't have been a "big" deal, except I came from a middle-class family and dated one of the top ten wealthiest heirs. Ah, lucky me.

Well, that was all the information my classmates and the school knew about me. It wasn't like anyone would be interested in researching further for someone who got into the number one prestige high school with a scholarship.
