A huge explosion occurred.
A strong shockwave erupted from the point of collision. The people near the forefront of both sides were blown backward, crashing against those mages behind them. Dust billowed, creating a screen between the opposing parties.
This attack was not something that the foreign mages came up with on a whim. They had assessed that Meredith's mages were almost near the point of re-establishing their screening tactic, so they immediately decided to prevent that using force. Although the attack was something that ended up with casualties on their side as well, a double-edged sword, it gave them the advantage. More of them would surely die if the screening tactic was again put up. They might not even have another chance of breaking through the mist at that point.
As for Meredith's mages, they were in complete shock. They did not expect that the enemy forces would be able to break through their multi-layered barrier.
