Chapter 8 - Are you serious?

After some weeks Mio could not forget about that night and couldn't help but remain curious, about what Jacob was up to.

That night she could feel a barren coldness emanating off of him. Now as she watched him at the lunch area of the university she was stunned.

His aura of friendliness floated around the room. People surrounded him and Mio felt that this was strange.

He seemed so introverted when he was at home. Now he seemed to draw people to him like a magnet.

While smiling he made eye contact with her and Mio looked at him.

She forgot to shyly look away in an attempt to be 'cute'.

Instead, her look was pensive with a tinge of suspicion behind it. This look tempted Jacob to approach her.

He was aware that he had seen her that night and instead of avoiding him. Jacob had learned that Mio had been asking about him, from various people.

Her inquiries were simple such as gaining people's impression on him and how much they knew about him. He flashed her a smile and Mio looked away hiding her slight disgust.

She was pretty sure that Jacob was two-faced. He was very charismatic at university but at home was like a walking block of ice. Mio didn't understand how someone could drastically change personalities.

Although Mio herself was hiding her true personality it was in an attempt to win him over. But now she was not so sure if she could win him over, let alone get close to him.

Mio sighed resting her head in her hand and Dana looked across at her friend.

" Are you okay? You seem down" Mio looked at Dana, whom she had been spending ample time with over the weeks.

Dana was the only genuine person she knew and was a warm person and made her feel all fuzzy inside.

" I'm okay just a bit frustrated" Dana nodded and pushed her fork holding a piece of cake near Mio's mouth. Mio was a bit shocked at the gesture but took a bite.

" Ahhh! Cake makes me happy!" she said feeling the sweet and soft cake melt in her mouth.

Dana smiled and was about to scoop up another piece of cake. When she felt a figure looming over her and saw Mio's stiff expression that sported a fake smile.

Dana looked behind her and saw someone she never thought she would get close to standing behind her.

" J-Jacob Deeks," she said looking a little awe-struck.

Mio sighed at her friend and thought ' You wouldn't give him that look if you knew what he really was like'.

" Hello" Jacob greeted with his usual smile that looked more like a sly grin in Mio's eyes.

Putting forth a welcoming expression she said " Hello".

They were acting like strangers and to the surrounding people it seemed like the two did not know each other. It also seemed like Jacob approached the Mio first making the girls in the cafeteria jealous.

Mio wondered what could have possibly spurred Jacob on to approach her, in such a public setting.

She glanced around noticing the jealous female looks and kept her expression from falling.

' Is he trying to set me up?'

" I was wondering if you'd like to go out after school?" the words lazily fell from Jacob's mouth but to Mio and everyone in the room, it was like a bomb had gone off.

Mio was stunned, she sat frozen in her chair for a few seconds while the atmosphere remained stagnant. All eyes were on her and Mio gritted her teeth and formed an almost painful smile.

" O-okay"... she said.

Her insides felt like they were being churned by a spoon. The people's gazes held so much pressure that she wanted to die.

" Did you see that?" someone whispered.

" Did he just ask her out?" another asked.

" Holy smokes he actually did!"

Some of the girls cried out in agony from watching the scene.

" But he never askes anyone out!" they whined.

Mio who was smiling made eye contact with Jacob and she swore he was smirking.

' Are you trying to make me a target for the whole school?!'

His lips pulled back and she stood up almost wanting to punch him. Mio bowed and calmly said.

" I'll see you after school" she then scurried away trying to get away from all the stares she was receiving.
