It was the day of the meeting and Mio had spent the day, planning. If she wanted to gather information on Jacob she would need to record it and also make sure she wasn't spotted.
She disguised herself as a boy, which she had no problem doing. Strapped a Go Pro around her head and looked at herself in the mirror. Mio deluded herself into thinking this was for revenge, but it was not only revenge she wanted.
She wanted to free herself from the Deeks clan and the only way to do that was to have some dirt on them.
Mio made up an excuse telling one of the maids she was going to Dana's place.
A driver drove her near Dana's apartment. Once he drove Mio dumped her bag behind some trash cans in an alley and took a cab.
The cab drove onto the bumpy dirt road and when the driver said that he would take her no further.
Mio paid him got out and walked.
She walked up the road looking behind her. It was nearing 7:30 pm and it was dark but she was determined. Finally, she saw an abandoned warehouse.
Mio bent down and walked off the road into the stream of tall grass. The warehouse was part of a farm that had been left alone for over five years.
The grass was tall and thick enough to hide Mio as she approached. Her phone vibrated and a text from Link came in.
[Are you seriously going through with this?]
He asked, Mio typed yes and then made sure the tracker on her phone was on. It was to ensure that Link knew exactly where she was. She had told Link about he plans to uncover what was going on and Link was apprehensive.
The last time she made an attempt to uncover something. It led her to leave her family. Link had to cover up her tracks and even helped her avoid her father.
Mio walked slowly amongst the grass until she came up the side of the warehouse. She could hear voices and made sure to keep quiet. She saw a large hole in the side of the warehouse, it looked like it had caved in and Mio crawled through the hole into the warehouse.
She was on the bottom floor and saw men inside. The warehouse had tractors and old bails of hay. There were tires, barrels and an old musty stench.
She hid behind some barrels and got a clear view on the men. They were standing in the middle with a table before them. All of the men walking around held guns in their hands and wore suits, and masks to cover their faces.
She poked her head around and switched on the recording. Her watch indicated that it was ten minutes to eight.
The men seemed to be talking in a foreign language that Mio did not know. She waited until she heard the tires of cars rolling on the dirt. Then heard the slam of a car door.
It was exactly eight when Jacob arrived. He was dressed well with more men surrounding him than Mio had ever seen.
She got down on her stomach and crawled forward between two damn haystacks, her heart was hammering in her chest.
Another car door slammed and from Mio's left came a man in a white suit and greasy blonde hair.
" Mr Deeks," he said.
" Forest," Jacob said.
The man waved his hand and a large case was set on the table. Mio could not see exactly what it looked like but she then looked to Jacob.
His face was devoid of a smile and he fiddled with his glasses as he placed a duffle bag on the table.
" Two million as per request," he said blandly.
The man in the white suit had one of his masked men open the bag and check the validity of the money.
When the masked man nodded the man known as Forest smiled.
" Ah ha ha ha, Mr Deeks. It's always a pleasure doing business with you".
Just as Jacob waved for one of his men to take the case off the table so they could leave.
Forest stopped him.
" You know Mr Deeks I've heard some interesting things about you."
Jacob narrowed his eyes, " What are you getting at?"
" Well, I heard, that you just turned up out of nowhere. You turned up and suddenly the entire Deeks clan is vying for total control of the underworld. Tell me, Mr Deeks don't you think you and your clan are getting a little too greedy?"
Forest had a dangerous tone in his voice.
Mio had stopped paying attention to their conversation and looked out behind where she hid.
There were people approaching Jacob and his crew from behind.
She hastily turned in his direction. There was at least a group of twelve men from behind.
Her senses screamed for her to get out but Mio found herself stuck where she hid. Her eyes focused on the people from behind and then at Jacob. In a split second all her plans to use the information she gathered as blackmail flew to the back of her mind.
Jacob was in danger and Mio knew that if he went down, her family would go down with him.
She saw one man take aim and she crept out and then.
" Watch out!" she shouted.
Forest head snapped in the direction of the sound but Mio had already ducked down. The first to pull a trigger was from Forest's side.
They had orders to get rid of Jacob.
As he took aim he was shot in the head and then chaos erupted.
Gunfire echoed and Mio could see the reflection of the light emitted by the guns against the darkness.
She crawled back intending to go out the way she came when out of the corner of her eyes she saw someone swipe at her.
Mio's body rolled out to dodge, her leg stuck out kicking the man in the knees. He fell to the ground and stood up kneeing him in the face.
She had taken out the man but also exposed her location.
Jacob saw the hooded person pop out. His men urged him to go back but there was no way he was letting them all die here.
He whipped out a gun from inside his jacket and pointed it at the fleeing Forest.
The shot was aimed at his head.
Mio who saw this noticed another person from above trained on Jacob.
" Crap!" she swore and ran in his direction.
She pushed people out of the way and then tackled him to the ground. Two shots went off simultaneously. The shot trained on Jacob and the one Jacob had on Forest.
The shot flew passed Mio grazing the back of her shoulder. Forest cried out as a bullet lodged itself in his fleshy backside.
Mio held Jacob's head down as the rain of fire continued.
" Crawl to cover!" she shouted and began to crawl. Jacob who noticed the man from above take another aim at him turned on his back and shot the man. He fell over the railing and with a thud landing on one of the masked men below.
Jacob then crawled after the hooded person. Once they were behind some barrels Mio told him to get back to his car.
" Come with," his voice said and Mio avoided eye contact looking down.
" No, go! I have a way out" she said. It was a lie, in truth she really wanted to dive into the cars outside and get out. But there was no way she was going to let herself get caught.
Jacob followed Mio's instruction and Mio looked back out at the chaos and then at the money flying into the air and then her eyes saw it. The green case that had fallen over the upturned table was just within her range.
Mio took a deep breath in and dived after it. The men were too absorbed in killing each other to notice her. Mio grabbed the bag and then ran the same way Jacob went. The men were now falling back and blood was everywhere and Mio felt queasy.
She hated blood and the only thing keeping her going was the adrenalin pumping through her veins. She got out and saw the trail of SUV's out in the distance.
Mio ran into the grass.
She clutched the case to her chest and forced her burning legs to run.
Her lungs began to feel like they were boiling and once she was far away she fell to her knees and vomited.
