What's she doing here? And ... Is Troy, that bastard, he fiance? My chest aches. That explains how she was able to attend that event yesterday.
Troy: You... to... good.
Claire: But... I... now.. can't..
I can hear a bit of their conversation but, can't make anything out. Anyhow, I can't let them notice me. I take out a cap from my bag. Ugh, this'll mess my hair up. I reluctantly put it on. Just then, Troy leans closer to Claire's face, his eyes closed. He isn't gonna do what I think he is, right?! My heart beat almost stops. His lips draw closer and closer. I can't see this. I'm about to look away when Claire turns her face away and stops him with her hand. She didn't kiss him! My relief only lasts for a moment until I realize she is facing my way. I quickly lower my head. Please don't see me! I shut my eyes tightly.
Claire: I don't... well.
Why do I keep torturing myself knowing it won't end well? I'm not a masochist, asking to be hurt over and over again. Someone as ruthless as her would never understand my pain. Suddenly, I feel someone poking my cheek. What the?! I fling my eyes open to look at at the culprit's face.
Ashton: Leah?!
Leah: Eh?! You're awake?
Her face flushes bright red.
Ashton: Geez, don't scare me like that!
Leah: I'm sorry, but you just looked so cute! Wait, why are you sitting here though? Why'd you not go back to the car? You might get a tan.
Ashton: I... wanted to get some fresh air.
I don't know why I didn't go back myself, to be honest. If I had, I wouldn't have witnessed what I did.
Leah: Fresh air? In a parking lot? If you are so worn out, I can cancel tomorrow's interview and we can go to some place more... refined.
Ashton: Quit talking me out of that interview, I WILL do it.
Leah: Fine, let's head back.
Leah gives heaves a defeated sigh and hands me a box of salad. Ew, it's all green. She did this on purpose! I point towards the salad.
Ashton: For real?
Leah: Shut up and eat it, it's good for you. How would everyone react if they knew that you're a picky eater?
Ashton:...
I pout. I guess I'll have to put up with it for now; something's better than nothing. I get up from the bench and walk over to the car with Leah. I look over my shoulder to see Claire walking out of the parking lot with Troy's arm over her shoulder, her face practically written over with 'worried'. I feel kinda jealous but I'm not in the position to feel anything for her, against Troy. I bury my feelings deep in my heart so they won't get out. I only want to know what happened to her, I'm not pursuing her. I won't let her mess my life up again.... no matter what happens. Claire Blanche, this is my silent declaration to you. I remind myself of this as I turn away from her and walk my way.
