Chapter 31 - Research

Izzy, Weigela and Leithi all went to the library. When she walked in it was quite empty with little to none students lingering around.

Izzy learned that the low-levelled students were not allowed on any of the other floors except the first floor. So Izzy wandered around browsing through the book and picking out ones focused on ghost stories and black magic.

She found a spot and the flipped through the book trying to find information on the thing that attacked her the night before. As she flipped through the pages something caught her eye. It was the image of a completely black figure with large eyes. The eyes reminded Izzy of what she had seen in her house before she was transported to the land of Thule.

The text explained that the creature was called a Jenuk and that it was a mythical creature. Said to have been formulated through black magic to seek out and kill its target. Records showed that it may have existed but there was not enough evidence after the Ancient war.

The Jenuk was simply a creature told in stories. However, Izzy swore that the image in the book and what she saw in her home that day, were exactly the same.

Izzy read through more books and it was just past lunchtime when Weigela and Leithi came to find her. They saw her sitting at a desk engrossed in the books and totally oblivious to her surroundings. Weigela snuck up behind her and tapped her on the shoulder.

Alarmed Izzy jumped, she was still shaken from reading about the Jenuk.

Weigela and Leithi giggle, but their fun was stopped when two blue-uniformed students walked passed them.

They stopped smiling and Izzy made eye contact with one of the guys walking past. He sneered at her and Izzy also looked away.

After that, they left for the canteen. There Izzy finally saw the other two students she had not met yet. They were both the silent type but Izzy got a strange vibe from them.

" You're wondering about the other two aren't you?" Weigela said noticing the direction of Izzy's gaze.

" The one with the dark blue hair is Valoel. He's a water mage that almost made it to the purple rank, but he was injured during a fight and now wastes away here. The one in the corner with the grey skin, that's Zakum." Weigela's tone became hushed as she spoke about Zakum.

"He's apparently a necromancer, which is rare. I've never seen him in action but nobody wants him in their classes cause I heard when anyone messes with him, they drop dead"...

Izzy looked in Zakum's direction, he indeed had grey skin and sickly ashen blonde hair. His eye looked sunken but they were a pale green colour.

He sat in the corner picking at the food.

Once they got their food. Izzy sat down to ask Weigela more questions about the school.

Weigela explained that there were five levels of ranking in the school.

The lowest being orange, them. Then green, blue, purple and the highest being white. The students in white uniforms were considered elite and were inner disciples able to learn directly from various masters in the magical field.

Also the higher your ranking the more benefits you got. Weigela mentioned that she wanted to reach the blue level so that she could finally leave the school grounds. Since the orange and green students were not allowed off the premises.

" So how did you land up here, in the orange class?"

Weigela went silent for a moment but then perked up.

" Well, it's my fault really. I got cocky in a fight and I paid because of it." Weigela lifted up her long sleeve to show Izzy stitching around her right and left forearm.

" I got both my arms chopped off. Luckily I got healed in time, but ever since then I've been struggling to cast spells since I'm an instrumental mage."

Izzy was horrified she stared down at Weigela's pale arms that had the scars of stitching around them and looked into her eyes.

" I'm so sorry"...

Weigela brushed it off," Yeah well, I really learned the hard way".

Leithi nodded his head and Izzy wondered if he had gone through a similar experience.

"And you Leithi?" she asked. He looked up at her with his cute thin face.

He didn't speak but Weigela did for him.

" Leithi used to be part of the swordsmanship class. But because of his tiny size and lack of endurance, he soon fell behind. He got diagnosed with an illness after that and then... yeah".

Leithi hung his head in shame and Izzy put her hand on his body shoulder to comfort him.

They ate their meals in silence and once they each went their separate ways Izzy began to worry. She wondered if that thing would attack her again.

" Theo, I need you to be alert this time okay. I'm sure there's something lingering around this hall".

' Yeah yeah okay. But I can assure you I saw nothing last night.'
