When Cassie woke up, her head was hurting and she felt an arm wrapped around her stomach. That night came back to her, and she gasped. She sat up, which startled Greyson.
He saw Cassie, and then remembered that night too. "Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry… I didn't mean…" His voice trailed off.
"I think that's both of our faults." Cassie said, realizing that she had betrayed her friend.
"We don't talk about what happened." Greyson said.
"Nope." Cassie got up. "We have to leave."
Her and Greyson walked downstairs and say that there were still a lot of people passed out. The house was a mess, and they silently left.
"Let's go get something to eat. My treat." Greyson said.
"Okay, sure." Cassie said.
They walked to the nearest diner and got a plate for food. It was awkward.
Donnie ran in and sat down in the booth with them. "What happened last night? You guys disappeared as soon as we got there!" He aimed the statement more at Cassie.
"I want to say, what happened to you?" Greyson asked.
"No- None of you business." Donnie stammered.
Greyson raised an eyebrow and sat back. "That's not fair." Donnie said, realizing that Greyson had played him.
"In what way?" Greyson said.
Donnie shut up. But then after 5 minutes of just the clinking of forks, he said, "So, where do we look for the next one?" Remembering what Cassie had told him yesterday.
Greyson confused, turned his head towards Cassie, but left his eyes on Donnie, then looked at Cassie. "I don't know, I'll check the music box again." Cassie stared at Greyson with a "Don't say anything, I'll explain later" look.
"Yeah, do… That." Greyson said.
Donnie raised an eyebrow. "You 2 are being sketchy. And it's not like you to just say 'yeah, do that.'"
"No, sometimes even I'm at a loss for words. It happens to everyone." Greyson said.
"So what are we talking about?" Donnie said. "I'm not an idiot."
"The objects of time. Cassie found one." Greyson played it off, and hoped he was right.
Donnie shrugged and stopped interrogating Greyson. "Can I see the music box?" Greyson asked.
"No." Cassie said to quickly.
"Why not?" Greyson and Donnie said.
"Because I want to find the clue." Truth was, neither of them knew about the finger.
"And you can, but let us help you." Donnie said.
Greyson could tell that she was hiding something, but didn't press her on it. He would find out later. "Fine, if you want to do it by yourself, go ahead. But I'm letting you know, last time that happened with me, I ended up leaving a magical world with only one person, not two." Greyson said.
He got up, and threw some money on the table. "I'll see you guys tomorrow." He walked away and out of the diner.
Cassie knew something about him that he didn't want people to know. He had told her while he was drunk and was upset that he had actually opened up to someone.
Her mind went back to yesterday night. "Can you tell me why your so… grey?" Cassie said, laughing.
"Well, because I don't know how to interact with people." Greyson was spinning on a chair.
"What kind of people?" Cassie asked.
"People that I like." Greyson said, not realizing what he had said.
Cassie laughed and asked, "And what people do you like?" Cassie was laying down on a bed.
Greyson laid down next to her. "Cassie?" Donnie was waving his hand in front of her face.
"Yes?" Cassie snapped out of the memory.
"I said we should go now." Donnie repeated.
"Yeah, let's go." Cassie got up, and Donnie followed her.
They walked past the library. Donnie stopped. "Do you hear that?" Donnie said.
"Hear what?" Cassie turned to him.
"It sounds like a river…. Like rushing water." Donnie said.
He walked up to the doors of the library and went inside. Cassie followed him. He walked to the same section that Cassie had found the books about Destiny and Time. He scanned the section and reached to grab a book, but Cassie ran in front of him and said, "Don't touch anything in this row."
"The sound is coming from the book." Donnie said.
"Let me call Greyson first." Cassie said.
"Why?" Donnie said.
"You heard what he said in the diner, we have to work together." Cassie said, stalling as she pulled her phone out and texted him.
"Cassie," his head started to hurt.
He stopped. "Donnie, just wait a minute. Greyson-"
"Why does Greyson matter? He isn't our friend. We're friends. We have been since we were little. Greyson has never paid attention to us until he overheard our conversation." Donnie cut her off.
"Because we are all apart of this, Donnie." Cassie said.
After she said that, Greyson popped up from around the corner, literally sliding into view. "Cassie move." Donnie said.
"Don't move, Cassie." Greyson said.
"Bo-"
"Donnie, I-" Greyson said.
"Cassie move!" Donnie grabbed her shoulder and moved her out of the way, and touched the book.
Cassie fell to the floor and when Donnie touched the book, he glowed yellow and then disappeared. Greyson helped Cassie up. "We have to go after hi-"
"Obviously this has to do with the next object. Only one of us can go in." Greyson stopped her.
"Well then, you should go. I don't know how much help I would b-"
"Cassie, Donnie trusts you more than he trusts me. And your not useless." Greyson told her.
His eyes intimidated her. "No, you go." Cassie said.
"Cas-"
"Or we break the rules." Cassie cut him off.
"No, that's not hap-"
"Well, go." Cassie said.
Greyson unwillingly touched the book. He glowed yellow too and he disappeared. Cassie sat on the floor. And she waited.
Greyson's eyes focused. He looked at his clothes, he was wearing a dull flannel and khaki shorts. His tennis shoes somehow turned worse than they already were. He looked up and saw Donnie. He was wearing something similar to what Greyson was wearing.
"Why are you here?" Donnie said, expecting Cassie to show up.
"Cassie kinda forced me-" Greyson started, but then stopped.
A shadow loomed over them from behind. They turned around. Something growled.
