Chapter 45 - Building an Army

The golem permeated the earth and planted the seeds within a matter of seconds. Injecting aura into the seeds, the golem carefully nurtured the growing plants. Within minutes, they were breaking through the soil and entering the spiritual energy-rich atmosphere.

Exiting the ground with a fierce shove, the plants pierced the dark soil. The golem slowly reformed and left the growing pot of land. Walking to Fang, he saluted. Fang smiled in response.

"Wonderful job," he spoke.

The golem nodded.

"Thank you, boss," he replied.

Fang's eyebrow raised quizzically. This golem... seemed to have a high level of intelligence. How extraordinary.

"Well. Do you have a name?" he asked.

The golem hesitated. Thinking about the concept of a name, he frowned. Shaking his head from side to side, he refused.

"No boss, I haven't yet been named," he spoke.

Fang frowned. Names would make everything more efficient. Thinking to himself, he pondered for a while.

'What should I name him?' he thought to himself.

Dozens of cliched scenarios ran through his minds and he imagined thousands of names in dozens of scenarios.

Sighing to himself, he stared at the golem.

[Comprehension into the Laws of Sighing developed]

'I really sigh too much...,' he thought.

Frowning, he returned to the matter at hand.

"You shall be called, Gold, for your skin, shines golden with the luster of the afternoon sun!" he proclaimed.

The golem stared at him with reverence and nodded. Fang frowned at the grandiose manner in which he had delivered this last line.

"Forget that. I just called you Gold because you know, it was the first thing I could think of. No point in lying to you about it anyway!" he spoke, nonchalantly.

The golem, now called Gold, stared at his master with a smirk on his face. Fang stared at him and sighed again.

'This golem is very intelligent and highly capable. However, one would usually require more golems to do almost anything. Creating other golems that are too simple will be useless but creating golems that are intelligent will take too long. What a dilemma,' Fang sighed within his thoughts.

[There is a way to do this, you know]

Fang's head snapped up at the notification.

'What way?' he asked.

[A special type of technique called the Golem Army will allow you to create multiple golems and then put them under the control of higher ranked golems, that is those with more intelligence]

'...'

'You couldn't have told me this earlier?'

Sighing, Fang lamented the strange ways of the system.

'We need a large space to house these golems. Where shall I put them...,' Fang pondered.

Frowning he went outside. Although the mountain was vast, it was taken over by a forest, a lake, and a farm. The only other portion he could put them in was a rocky and barren place. Hesitating, Fang steeled his nerves.

'Right. That's where they'll go so that they can train to survive in such harsh conditions. I'll use the natural rock there to create golems,' he thought.

Gold seeped back into the earth at his master's command and the both of them flew to the northern face of the mountain.

It seemed as if there was a lot of work to be done.

Entering the barren side of the mountain, Fang began shifting and restructuring the rock. Large chunks of rock floated over and he set them down with a slam.

Waving his hands rapidly they began to form the vaguely humanoid form he had created before making Gold. Adding slightly more detail and precision, he fine tuned each golem's shape to their specific task.

If a golem was meant for defense, it would be larger and harder, able to create walls of sand and rock, able to take large hits from the enemy and keep going, somewhat like a tank.

If a golem was meant for assault, it would be equipped with a lithe frame, similar to Gold, but not as detailed. This type of golem would be able to summon large blades and launch hard balls of mud and rock towards it's enemies.

If a golem was meant for stealth, their frame would be thin and soft, allowing them greater speed and precision. They would be given the ability to summon two large blades in either hand that were made from a highly resistant metal and would rarely break. In addition, they would be given the ability to shoot a powerful shot of earth, which would be much more effective and precise compared to the assault types.

If a golem was meant for long range attacks, Fang gave it a small but flexible form. This golem would be able to freely manipulate it's entire body, turning from sand to earth within seconds. It also had a powerful rapid shooting ability that allowed it to fire off hundreds of shots within minutes.

Creating these golems within a matter of seconds, Fang set to making his squadrons. Each superior golem could only control at most 10 golems at once. Therefore, he put two defensive golems, four assault golems, two long range golems, and two stealth golems in each golem squad. Once he had completed making the superior golems to control them, he would be ready to establish his own army.

Smiling with glee, Fang stared at his beautiful creations. This would allow him to protect the mountain and the farm, along with all of his friends!

Gold slowly came up to Fang while he was in the process of creating these squadrons.

"Master," he began.

Fang stared at him.

"May I have control of this army? I have an idea of how to use them to their maximum efficiency!" he spoke, boldly.

Fang sighed.

'Whatever. This was just a pet project anyway. I didn't really have too much of a use for the army as my skills and the skills of the divine beasts are enough to accomplish my goals,' he thought.

"Alright. You shall be commanding this army. Don't let me down, Gold," he spoke in a solemn manner.

Gold nodded, his eyes shining with the desire to prove himself and this newly created army.

'The world shall trembled before me...,' Gold thought sinisterly as he began to brainstorm thousands of strategies and military formations.
