Chapter 87 - The police

The same day after Ha Eun called Mr. Oh

Ha Eun returned to the room and saw Eun Ha sleeping. Ha Eun smiled and passed her hand on her head. There was a knock on the door, she thought it was a police officer again, but it surprised her to see Bong Chol. Chang Wook's only friend.

He was sweating, and just like her, he was in his pajamas and was wearing two different shoes. The moment Bong Chol laid eyes on Ha Eun he fell to his knees and started to cry.

Ha Eun hurried towards him. She could imagine why he was crying but had no idea how he found out Chang Wook was in the hospital.

"I'm so sorry, Madame," he said. "I tried to stop him…" Bong Chol continued to cry. Ha Eun was shocked by this development. He knew something that she didn't.

Ha Eun grabbed him by his shirt collar and pulled him closer to her "Talk," she said with an angry expression and a stern look on her face.

Bong Chol knew that expression very well. That face was what made many of his coworkers cry, and he saw it in action once; he would always thank the heavens that she never looked at him like that, until today. He was scared she would murder him, and Ha Eun was ready to strangle him if he didn't say anything soon.

Bong Chol explained what happened a few hours before, about how he listened to everything that happened, how Chang Wook made sure to record the conversations he had, and how he made a promise with Chang Wook to call the police when he thought things were getting out of hand.

Ha Eun passed her hands through her hair and walked towards the window. The information he gave was similar to what Eun Ha talked about, but he gave one specific type of information that Eun Ha couldn't. He knew the voice of who Chang Wook was speaking to and what those papers contained.

"Who was it?" Ha Eun asked him.

"It was Chung Woo Yeon," Bong Chol said. Ha Eun didn't see that coming. She couldn't deny that Woo Yeon had a few screws loose, but she didn't think he would be capable of murder…then again, he almost killed her when they were kids. But why would he do all this? He knows she doesn't trust him and doesn't want to be anywhere near him. Is this some type of revenge?

As Ha Eun pondered what could be the reason Bong Chol said, "He wanted you, Madame," Ha Eun turned to look at him. "He wanted Chang Wook to sign divorce papers and came up with a plan to make you believe he didn't love you."

Ha Eun was surprised; she didn't see that coming either. He did all that for divorce papers?

"It appears to me that Chung Woo Yeon is obsessed with you," Bong Chol said. Ha Eun stared at him with a scowl, which made Bong Chol add, "Madame," but Ha Eun didn't mean to look at him badly; she was thinking about how to go about this information. It seems that though people have calmed down around her, she still sends shivers down their spines.

By now, Woo Yeon would have gotten rid of any evidence that could possibly lead to him and come up with an alibi.

"Have you told the police what you just told me?" Ha Eun asked Bong Chol. He nodded. He didn't want to act like nothing had happened while his friend and his wife were going through such a horrible time. He thought Ha Eun would praise him, but she groaned instead.

"Are you an idiot?!" she yelled. Bong Chol didn't understand why she was angry.

"Woo Yeon is a Chung! The Chung family are not as influential as the Oh family, but that doesn't mean they don't have any sort of influence among the police force," Ha Eun said, hoping Bong Chol could understand where she was going with this. Still, he seemed lost. "Woo Yeon was crazy enough to shoot Chang Wook and was ready to murder both him and Eun Ha. Now tell me, how does a rich person stay out of prison?"

Bong Chol widens his eyes. "He bribes the police," Bong Chol whispered.

"He doesn't just bribe them…He owns them," Ha Eun said.

There was a knock on the door, and although Ha Eun couldn't see their faces, it was definitely the police. She pushed Bong Chol to the bathroom, and she went in as well.

"Stay here, don't move," Ha Eun told him. She quickly flushed the toilet, splashed a lot of water on her face, and slapped herself a few times to make herself look like she was crying her eyes out in the bathroom.

She opened the door ever so slightly and saw two police officers. They weren't the ones that interviewed her or Eun Ha. She gave them a slight grin, turned off the bathroom light, and closed the door behind her.

"Miss Lee" it was two police officers, and they weren't the ones that interviewed her and Eun Ha.

"It's Mrs. Kim," she corrected them. The officers looked down while one cleared his throat. "Can I help you, officers?" Ha Eun asked.

"We got word that a suspicious man was making his way to this room. We came to make sure that you two were okay," one of the officers said with a confident tone.

"What makes this man suspicious?" Ha Eun asked, "Did he shoot my husband or Eun Ha?"

The two officers looked at each other; they didn't look as confident as they had a few seconds ago.

"There is no suspicious man in this room. You may go," Ha Eun said, gesturing for them to leave. She said it with a stern tone which made them feel like they did something wrong, and her big dark eyes made them feel like she was looking into the deepest parts of their souls.

They bowed, apologized, and left.

"Come out," Ha Eun said, and Bong Chol opened the door. "Before you ask, they weren't good cops."

"I didn't get the chance to tell you, but I also recorded the conversation," Bong Chol told her. He took out a voice recorder from his pants pocket and played part of the conversation Chang Wook had with Woo Yeon. "I was going to give it to the police, but I forgot."

Ha Eun looked at Bong Chol with a blank expression. Bong Chol was confused, so he forced a laugh. "Do I have something on my face?" he asked.

Ha Eun quickly started to hit him on the head various times.

"Why didn't you say that sooner?!" she yelled at him and took the voice recorder from him.

"Sorry," he said. Ha Eun hit him on the head one more time.

"You should be," she said.

"Sorry," Bong Chol said once more.

Ha Eun raised her hand at him once again. "Say that one more time!" Bong Chol quickly moved back.

Ha Eun looked back at the recorder and listened to the conversation between Chang Wook and Woo Yeon. Once she heard the gunshots and Chang Wook's screams, tears couldn't help but fall down her cheeks.

"Woo Yeon…I'm going to kill him," Ha Eun whispered with an angry expression. That expression made Bong Chol think that she was actually planning a murder and that she could get away with it too.

"Why not just take him to court and lock him away forever?" Bong Chol suggested. Ha Eun looked at him without saying a word. He wondered if she was going to hit him again.

"What other language do you speak?" she asked him. Bong Chol didn't understand the question, "All my employees speak more than one language. That is one of the main requirements to work for me, so which do you speak?"

"Spanish," Bong Chol answered.

"I'm sending you to Paraguay," Ha Eun told him. Bong Chol widened his eyes. What she just told him, rather than excite him, scared him.

"What do you mean to do?" Bong Chol.

"The Oh Corporation has branch offices all over the world, and one is in Paraguay. You leave on the first flight out tonight," Ha Eun told him. She walked to the window and looked down at the cars and people. She noticed three men in suits that simultaneously looked up at her. She didn't want them to think she was onto them, so she moved her gaze, stretched out her arms, closed the curtain, and hurried toward Bong Chol.

Three men simultaneously looking her way. It could be a coincidence, but she didn't want to take that chance.

"Leave the hospital through the back door and take a cab. Go home and pack your bags. I'll have a car waiting for you outside your place to take you to the airport." All this was too much information for Bong Chol to handle in such a small amount of time.

"Wait! Hold on! Let me process all this. Why are you sending me away?"

"The police suspect that you know what happened. At least, the ones that work for Woo Yeon. They must have taken Chang Wook's phone and saw that the last person he called was you. If they look at the amount of time the two of you were on the phone and hear the voice recording, they'll put two and two together. You're in danger, and I'm not letting anyone else get hurt tonight, so you have to go."

"But isn't Chang Wook in danger too?"

"I can cover for him and Eun Ha, but you will be difficult. I'll say that a spot opened up at one of our branches, you were up for a promotion, and you could speak Spanish. You can only come back when I tell you to, got it?"

Bong Chol nodded; he bowed and was on his way to the door when he stopped and said, "We might have all talked sh*t about you behind your back, but I've never seen Chang Wook as happy as he is when he is with you" Bong Chol and Ha Eun stared at each other for a few seconds, he felt a bit awkward so he added, "You know, I never thought a girl like you would like a guy like him."

Ha Eun grinned with a saddened expression, "It's funny because I never thought a guy like him would want a girl like me," Ha Eun answered with a grin. Bong Chol smiled and left the room.

Now, she had to think of how she'll get Woo Yeon to pay for what he's done.
