Chereads / Infection: Dying Days / Chapter 15 - Confrontation

Chapter 15 - Confrontation

"I guess it's time to wake up."

I whispered to myself as I slowly got up from the cot, trying my best to not make any noise.

It's so quiet in the gym that I can hear a pin drop.

Shouldn't there be people standing at the doors? Ah, nevermind they're asleep. Well, it's not like can I blame them. Everything was all normal until a couple of hours ago.

Standing next to the cot, I looked out the windows of the gym and stared at the slightly dawn sky.

According to my internal clock, the time now should be around five in the morning. As for how I know, it's usually the time I get up to do my daily morning workout.

"I should take a look at what's going on outside. But first…"

GRR!

"I'll need to eat something."

Picking up the can of peaches I saved, I carefully opened the can using the puller on the lid. But when I got it open I realized I didn't have a fork. Ah,I forgot to grab it from that teacher handing out food earlier.

Welp, it seems my hands are gonna get sticky.

With my left hand digging into the can of peaches, I take out a peach slice and eat it. While doing so, I quietly walk around the gym checking to see if everyone and everything was alright.

I didn't want to wake up with an infected gnawing at me first thing in the morning so why would they? Plus, this might be my only chance for rest, I'm not willing this pass up!

After making sure everything was okay, I walk towards the gym windows until I was stopped by the retracted bleachers.

The height from the top bleacher to the top of my head was five feet.

Eating the last peach slice and drinking all the peach juice, I put the can down and climbed the bleachers.

When I got to the top, I jumped at the window sill and climbed it. Luckily, it was wide enough for me to sit on otherwise, I wouldn't even attempted to climb up here.

"Aaah!"

"Hmm, it looks like a bunch of them walked off on their own. That's good."

I whispered to myself as I looked at the scene before me. Compared to how it was a few hours ago, the number of infected in the schoolyard have dropped astonishingly.

However, despite there being less infected, it still wasn't advisable to run out there. There's still enough out there to form a small horde!

By the way, this glass is amazing! I can hardly hear anything out there. Is it sound proof?

As I thought of useless things like this, I quietly watch the horde until everyone was awake, which was an hour later.

"Now, that everyone's awake, I need to talk to Big Sis."

Hopping down from the window sill and bleachers (while ignoring the questioning), I walk to where she was, the temporary infirmary.

When I arrived, I see Big Sis tending to a girl student who had bloodied bandages wrapped around her leg.

"How did you get this cut?"

Big Sis asked as she slowly unwrapped the bandages on the girl's leg, it showed a long scab covered cut starting from her knee to the middle part of her leg. Just looking at it made me cringe a little.

"Tss, I gotten the cut when I was pushed to the ground by my best friend as we tried to escape those monsters out there."

The girl said sadly.

"Why'd she push you?"

"... Because she thought I would be the perfect distraction! I-I thought we were best friend? In the end though, she, she was...Hicc!"

"It's okay. It's okay. You're safe now."

Realizing the fate of the girl's friend, Big Sis consoled her as she started to cry.

"..."

Watching this sad but touching scene,I decided to back away and wait for another time to talk to her. Because if I asked her right now after hearing all that, it would feel awkward.

"Wait a moment, Desmond."

But when I attempted to leave, Big Sis called my name.

"Ah! Hicc!"

Surprised at Big Sis' suddenly calling my name, the girl looks at me with her wide red eyes. Did she just now notice me?

"What you need?"

"Can you help me get some antiseptic spray? I ran out of it a couple of minutes ago."

While saying this, Big Sis showed me the empty can of antiseptic spray and handed it to me. Tossing it up and down in my hand, I asked.

"Where's the supply room at?"

"It's right next to where Mr. Braxton hands the food out at. Ask him to unlock the door for you and when you enter the room, a box of antiseptic spray should be in there to your right."

"So, the old guy's name is Mr. Braxton huh?

Alright. When I get back I'll need to talk to you about something."

"Okay, we'll talk about it when you get back."

"Un."

Give her a nod, I turn around and walk towards the supply room.
