Chereads / Infection: Dying Days / Chapter 19 - Contingency Plan (2)

Chapter 19 - Contingency Plan (2)

To be more specific on where Mr. Ackland is pointing at, it's the bus garage.

Our school has two buses. One is used for transporting the football and basketball teams to their games while the other one is used for transporting the track and field teams to their events.

Usually after a game or an event, the coaches park the buses in the garage.

If we were to go along with Mr. Ackland's line of thinking then…

"You wanna use the buses to get students out of here?"

"Yes. That's exactly what I want to do. If we use the buses, we can save all the students at one time!"

"Hmm."

Placing a hand under her chin, Big Sis contemplates Mr. Ackland's plan.

As she was contemplating his plan, I give Mr. Ackland a look of doubt and say skeptically.

"How are we gonna get over there? We can't just magically appear over there."

"We'll take the gym's second floor door and quickly move our way over there by taking this path. It's the fastest way towards the bus garage."

Mr. Ackland confidently explained as he took a dry erase marker from the desktop pencil holder and placed it on the gym outline before slowly moving it across the map to create a path that led us to the bus garages.

"..."

Seeing how direct the path was, I couldn't refute it in anyway (even though I wanted to). In fact, I like it. The less turns I have to take the better!

"That's easier said than done, son."

Mr. Braxton calmly said as he shook his head left in right.

"What do you mean?"

Possibly feeling offended because of Mr. Braxton's criticism, Mr. Ackland shot an annoyed glance his way.

Ignoring his glance, Mr. Braxton explained unperturbed.

"You got to take the number of infected into account. We don't know how many are wandering the halls. If we carelessly follow your plan, all of us will be massacred! We'll need to move cautiously."

"But when night hits we won't be able to see anything..."

"I'm with Mr. Braxton on this."

Just as Mr. Ackland was about to start his reasoning, Big Sis interrupted him.

"We can't just run in their with our eyes closed. The safest way for us to get to the bus garages is to move slow and steady while keeping an eye on the infected. Am I right Mr. Braxton?."

"My thoughts exactly! What about you boyo?"

Then the attention was back on me. With a firm expression, I said.

"I'm with you guys on this. But just like Mr. Ackland said we'll need to get there before night time. I know first hand how dangerous it is to roam the hallways when it's pitch black outside. So, we'll need to work fast but cautiously."

"What do you have in mind then, Desmond?"

"We'll keep Mr. Ackland's plan. I only have to tweak it a little…"

Replying to Big Sis' question, I grab the dry erase marker from Mr. Ackland's hand and begin to draw my strategy on the school map.

========

"I'm quite impressed Desmond."

Big Sis, (who finally gotten used to the smell of man musk) said with an amazed voice and expression as we left the office. We were heading back to the gym area.

"What do you mean?"

"I never expected you to come up with a plan like that."

"Well, my dad was in the military after all. I learned how to do that from him."

Yep, my pop was the best!

"Oh, I didn't know that. You used to be quite the thug in middle school, even more so than others."

Big Sis said jokingly, to which I reply in the same manner.

"Heh, I can say the same thing about you. You've mellowed out quite a bit. Do you know how surprised I was when I saw that you were the student council president?"

I found out when I went to the school orientation my freshman year. Man, let me tell you, the moment I saw her walk on stage and introduced herself as Pelican Soar Academy's student council president, my jaw dropped in shock!

The gap between the past her that taunted people as she kicked their asses and the present her that charismatically spoke while smiling kindly is very big! Very big!

"It seems we both changed a lot since middle school huh?"

"That's what I like to call 'maturity'... What's the commotion up ahead?"

"Let's check it out."

I curiously said as we closed in on the gym. We heard the clamoring voices of many people. The closer we got, the louder the voices were.

"What's going on here?"

I asked stunned at the scene before me. Everyone formed a circle around a group of people who were arguing with each other.

"I said leave her alone!"

A familiar voice angrily shouted. It was Andy.

"Was I talking to you fat ass? Get the f*ck out my way! I was asking this girl did she need any help or not!"

"Yeah, so why don't you move!"

Then the voices of two an angry boys could be heard as well.

"Move!"

I shouted angrily as I pushed through the crowd. And upon seeing what I saw, I formed a deep scowl.

David and Andy were boldly confronting two boys, one had dyed green hair along a few nose and ear piercings while the other had a rat face and brawny body.

Behind David and Andy was Amanda, she was looking back and forth between Andy and the two boys with eyes full of concern and nervousness.

"Oi, oi, what in the f*ck's going on here?"

I called out to Andy and David as I walked towards them while ignoring the aggressive stares of the two boys.

"What happened here?"

"Check this out, as I was walking around checking to see where you were at, I caught these two harassing Amanda over here."

"I can attest to that. I saw Andy just as he was confronting the two."

After hearing Andy's explanation and David's confirmation, I looked towards Amanda.

"Amanda, is this true?"

And with a nervous and stuttering voice, she said.

"Y-yes. Those two were harassing me. They said somebody wanted to meet me. But when I declined going, the b-boy with dyed hair grabbed my arm…"

"You lying bitch! I didn't do such a thing!"

Before Amanda could finish her words, the green haired boy angrily protested.

"That's not helping your case at all dude...Listen, how about we forget the whole situation? You get to what you were doing and we get back to what we were doing?"

I said trying to diffuse the situation. The thing we need the least right now is infighting. My plan depends on it.

"Act like nothing happened? Man, f*ck you! F*ck you and your momma!"

...What did he just say?

F*ck my Mom?

Y'know what? The hell with trying to diffuse the situation! This grass haired motherf*cker wants beef then guess what? He's gotten it!
