Chapter 5 - ch 5 The adventure begins

Kayne awoke in the morning and decided to begin searching the houses on other streets than his. He continued a routine of clearing a street at a time for a week and by the end he had amassed a decent amount of dried meat and other no perishables. He planned to settle down and decide what to do and had just cleared the last house in his neighbourhood when he heard a roar coming from somewhere else.

At that very moment the realisation that most people in the city where dead dawned on him and he realised that it was likely that the guards weren't keeping the monsters outside anymore. He ran as fast as he could home.

He was excited for the first fight he had participated in since he had leveled up but he knew he had no chance of winning without Whyvern's help.

Kayne arrived at his street and heard more roars sound throughout the city. He ran to his house and decided to pack up his things. He wanted to make sure all his important things where safe during the fight.

Kayne brought all of his things outside and hid them in the bushes near his house. He had read that a creature called {Goblins} took advantage of other creature's attack to plunder cities and steal their food.

After hiding the food, Kayne went out to find a monster with Whyvern. He walked through the streets firm in the belief that he was now strong enough to take on any monsters. He had only walked for a few minutes before finding the first monster he had ever seen. It was a large dog shaped creature that was salivating everywhere.

Kayne didn't recognize the creature but was still confident that Whyvern could defeat it with his help. The wolf glanced around, seemingly detecting them and, when he saw them, his eyes instantly slanted and focused directly on him. Kayne cast {Small speed boost} on Whyvern to gain the initiative.

He quickly followed that up by casting {Slight endurance boost} to help, in case Whyvern got hit. Whyvern started summoning small daggers made of light and shot one of them at the wolf.

Unfortunately, the wolf simply leant to the left, and the knife passed by it without hitting so much as a hair. Whyvern continued to launch the knifes at the wolf as fast as she could, however the wolf managed to avoid most of them and only got hit by three.

One of the hits landed on the wolfs back and barely did any damage to it. One of the other knives hit the wolf in the shoulder and only seemed to disorient the wolf. The final knife that made contact managed to get lodged in the back left leg of the wolf while it was still recovering from the previous knife.

Kayne was happy when he saw the hit land, but the knife only seemed to enrage the wolf. It proceeded to dash towards Whyvern ingnoring all the attacks she sent his way and, on arriving close enough, bit towards her.

Whyvern managed to dodge slightly but the wolf still managed to bite her wing. Kayne, upon seing the wolf get close to Whyvern, once again made the foolhardy decision to ignore his own safety, and run towards to wolf.

By the time Kayne got within arms reach, the wolf had severely torn up Whyvern's wing and tried bite her somewhere else by temporarily throwing her straight up.

Whyvern tried flapping her wings but all it did was make her spin around midair. Kayne watched her fall back towards the wolf and, as a last moment reaction caused by his fear of losing the only thing he had left from his time with his sister, he cast {Small speed boost} on himself and reached for Whyvern.

Kayne missed by a large amount and instead he ended up between the wolf and Whyvern. The wolf instinctively bit down on the new thing in his line of sight.

Kayne screamed out in pain and started flailing wildly. Tears poured from his eyes as he suffered the most pain he had ever felt. He was completely unaware of his surroundings but Whyvern was still paying attention and saw an oppertunity. As she fell close to the wolf she summoned two last knifes and shot them into the eyes of the wolf.

The knifes hit the wolf right in the eyes and it reared back with enough strength to tear Kaynes arm right out of the socket. Kayne should have passed out but for some reason he couldn't.

If Kayne was in his right mind he would have realized that this was most likely related to some of his hidden attribute effects, however he was in too much pain to think. He lay on the ground feeling nothing but pain and loss from where his left arm had been.

After checking that the wolf had died from several more knife wounds, Whyvern came over to help Kayne. She proceeded to cast a few light spells that helped numb the pain just enough so that Kayne could think.

Kayne was sweating profusely as he walked over to the wolf with blood pooring from his arm socket. He knew that, if he couldn't stop the bleeding, he would die. His magic was far from enough and the only thing he had in his bag was food.

Kayne walked up to the wolf and kicked it's head in rage knowing he was lacking the time neaded to get back to either his bag or house in any case.

Kayne was surprised to hear a crack and glanced down, he saw that the wolfe's tooth had broken and fallen out. In his half crazy state, he had no time to ponder he just sat down and grabbed the tooth.

He proceeded to roughly cut the wolf to pieces and take what parts of the fur wheren't completely destroyed and use it as a bandage to stop his bleeding.

Kayne wrapped up his stump and started walking towards his house carrying Whyvern in his left hand (1). All the way he was casting all three of his healing spells.

By the time Kayne reached the bag with his food, he was suffering from severe mana shortage and blood loss. Kayne grabbed his bag and started walking.

He was so worn out, that he didn't notice that Whyvern was the one leading his steps through their mental connection. Soon Kayne arrived at the forest but his conscious mind was refusing to react to any stimuly because of the pain overdose and mana shortage.

He simply continued to walk into the woods until he came to a recently uprooted tree that had a natural cave formed below it.

With his level of exhaustion, it took no more than a minute for Kayne's bode to fall asleep, with his mind being even faster.

Kayne slept for a long time though he didn't know it. He survived only off of small creatures Whyvern hunted. They where all much easier to fight then the wolf and gave no experience due to not being monsters. Whyvern lost her wings soon after arriving in the forest because of their eccesively broken state. However she had gotten quite adept at stealth using her light based powers.

With her stealth she had managed to kill many of the weakest creatures and feed them to to Kayne. This concept would have disgusted the original Kayne, however it was necessary to survive and Kayne was realising more and more that this world wasn't a game.

Kayne woke up in what felt to him as a day but was, in reality, multiple weeks. He had gotten noticably skinnnier and had a much more solemn feel to him. His eyes no longer held a spark of child like wonder and immaturity that most people on earth kept for their whole lives.

Kayne decided to make his way to a large city as that was most likely where the strongest people where, and thus, the ones who survived the trials.

Kayne grabbed his bag of food, that Whyvern had left untouched for the days that she couldn't hunt, and left in the direction he vaguely remembered a city being in. He checked his stats as was his habit and found that two of his skills had increased.

{slight Stem Bleeding} had gone up by one level: {small Stem Bleeding}

{slight Pain Resistance} had gone up by two levels: {weak Pain Resistance}
