Kayne was walking through the woods deep in thought. He knew, now, that he couldn't easily beat anything that attacked him, especially so while missing his right arm.
He decided to proceed with caution and avoid all but the weakest of monsters.
Kayne needn't walk for long before coming upon the first creature he had seen since his fight with the wolf.
It was a creature that he recognized as a horned jackalope. It was one of the easier animals to kill since it wasn't carnivorous and was know to be easily lured into traps.
Kayne quickly set to work making a trap he had read about in a book. It had a simple design, just hole that was covered by branches that could easily break.
Kayne, with Whyvern's help spent the next twenty minutes covering the hole with leaves to make it blend in with the forest floor. Kayne then proceeded to find the jackalope, which had moved over to a nearby creek, and attract it with some of the dried fruits he had taken from his village.
The jackalope hesitantly followed him until they reached the area where the trap was set. The horned beast looked at him with contempt and simply jumped around the hole he had dug.
Kayne was quite surprised by this as he could barely see the hole and he had been the one who dug it.
The jackalope approached him but, before he could lunge for the dried fruit. Whyvern summoned three knives and threw them at the jackalope.
The jackalope was surprised by this developpement and instinctively jumped to the side where no knife was thrown. The jackalope managed to escape the knives but landed right in the middle of the trap.
It fell in and started yelling out. To Kayne's continued surprise, many smaller jackalopes started rushing out from the bushes to help the large one.
Whyvern managed to hold off the smaller jackalopes and Kayne, realising none of the smaller jackalopes where calling out, realised that he had to kill the big jackalope.
Whyvern, sensing his intention, summoned a knife and dilivered it to him. Kayne then jumped down into the pit with the jackalope.
He attemted to land in a way similar to how he had seen in movies however he messed up severely and simply fell flat on his stomach. He quickly cast {small Stem Bleeding} on himself and stood up.
The jackalope dashed towards him, ready to peirce him with his horn but Kayne managed to dodge by jumping out of the way after casting {small Speed Boost} on himself.
Kayne quickly got up and swung the knife at the jackalope. The jackalope seeing this ran towards him.
During the fight the jackalope had ceased shouting and less and less jackalopes where aproaching. Whyvern managed to sent a single knife down to distract the jackalope and it succeeded in distracting it for just long enough for Kayne to get close and attack the jackalope by repetitively stabbing it in the eyes.
Kayne felt blood and eventually brain viscera coat his hands. he didn't stop until he had reached the deapest point he could. He then proceeded to punch the back of the knife in his crazed state.
His punches did more damage to his fist then the jackalope corpse but he didn't stop until the knife was fully inside the jackalopes skull.
He sat down, tired but not exhausted and proceeded to throw up all over his bloodied hand. He glanced over his body and found severeal stab wounds he got from the jackalope that he proceeded to heal.
Every few seconds he would see the disfiggured jackalope and throw up once again. After very little time, Whyvern came down and lay on Kaynes head.
Kayne sat still for a few more minutes before finally standing up, grabbing a few of the rabbits, and walking in a random direction.
It didn't take long for Kayne to realise he should have had some idea of where he was going. He tried to orientate himself before realising he was hopelessly lost.
He quickly came to the conclusion that he had to keep moving as, if his previous fight where anything to go by, he had to get out of the woods, fast.
Kayne walked for the rest of the day and, by the end, came upon a downward slope in the hill. He descended the hill and came upon a small stream at the bottom.
He knew he only had a few hours left before it got to dark for him to see. As such, he decided to follow the river and try to find shelter.
He found a cave quickly enough and took shelter within. He drank some water from the stream and, as soon as he did, he realized that he was parched. He started to drink as much water to make up for his lack of water within the last month.
He was still trying to drink more when he felt his stomach heave. He had never been this thirsty before so he was not expecting what came next.
He proceeded to throw up most of what he had just drank and everything he had left in his stomach. His stomach growled and he felt pains from hunger dur to his excessive vomiting that had occurred that day.
He ate some meat drank a bit more water than took a five minute break to see if he would regurgitate it all back up.
Upon seeing that he didn't, he decided to continue eating like that for a while longer before getting to sleep.
He woke up the next morning with his whole body aching but the drive to leave as quick as he could. He stood up, ate some more, drank some more, than set off. He followed the river until he reached the edge of the forest.
He was unaware of just how lucky he got. His vomit had washed down stream scaring off all the creatures that normally came to drink there and that was the only way he managed to make it out of the woods with his life.
Kayne looked around and realised that about forty feet in front of him there was a start to a large farm field and what resembled a city in the distance.
Kayne took a deep breath before saying:
"Almost there Whyvern"
Whyvern made no response except to move down to his shoulder and let out a cute squeak.
