Chapter 5 - All Too Well

Opening the doors I see the walls lined with towering shelves of books, as to be expected of a library. Sitting in the middle of the library Keith and Viky are pouring over some books, they usually do this when they are worried, it helps to calm them down.

"Hey, guys did ya miss me." Viky jerks her head up without a second breath is hugging me so tight I can hardly breathe. I wrap my arms around her and pat her chestnut brown hair.

Keith is more calm, even though he probably wants to hug and scold me right about now. "So," he says in that tone that doesn't indicate nothing is wrong "Her Majesty decides to grace us with her presence." I shoot him a poisonous glare.

"So after you tell me to go get Vik, you disappear and don't show up till the following day?" His voice is dripping with sarcasm. "Jae, do you always have to make us worry? Can't you ever just, I don't know, be normal."

"Ah, the normal speech I should've known," finally Viky decides to loosen me from my bear hug. She looks up at me with those innocent yellow eyes like a rising sun, one that has not yet realized the terrors of this world. It was extremely ironic considering she was probably the only one of us who has seen the horrors of the world.

Viky maybe 15, but she was not as naive as she may seem. Having your mother and father brutally murdered in from of your 3-year-old eyes can leave its own scars. She may always seem so happy and carefree, but if push comes to shove, she would not be the one too scared to move. "Keith, Let's just savor the fact that Jae came home to us safe."

"Excuse me, are you saying you assumed you would find me dead in a ditch." They knew that I was the toughest person in the compound. "I find offense in the lack of trust that you have in me, my dear dear friends." I turned around and pretended to pout, I knew that they were just joking with me as revenge for disappearing.

I walked over to the big mahogany desk and sat down on it. I picked up the book that was laying next to the computer. It was a French paperback. While I was reading I noticed what was pulled up on the computer. I dropped the book. Displayed on the screen was the face of someone I knew all too well.
