Pam hurriedly entered the classroom and sat next to Angela.
"Girl, you never change" Angela joked.
"Shut up" she replied while giving her friend a nudge with her elbow. She was settling down and didn't recognize the tall figure who entered the front door and sat in the front row.
The professor came in and joked about students entering the wrong class. Funny enough, some students actually entered the wrong classroom, got up, and left.
For Psychology 101, students are going to be paired for the midterms. This announcement made the classroom roar with sighs and complaints.
"you will be paired randomly" the professor got another boo from the class.
"Oh my god, Pammy," Angela whispered while grabbing my hand.
"I know" I nervously replied.
The professor went on to discuss the grading system, and how the paired student project will constitute 60% of our midterm grade. Which garnered sighs, again, from the class.
"You will see the list of paired students later tonight in your individual accounts."
With that, the class was dismissed.
Later that day, Angela called me at 10 pm and told me to check my school account.
She hung up and sent me a text "You're so lucky, girl. Goodnight!"
I checked my account. The pairing was done with our names and pictures side-by-side.
I looked for my name and saw my partner.
"Trent Johnson 'TJ' Vega" I read. TJ sounds familiar.
I clicked on his picture.
It was a 2x2 photo with him wearing a white shirt under a black polo. He has chinky eyes, a wide smile, and perfectly aligned teeth. He is handsome.
But I immediately recognized him.
I let out a silent scream.
I texted Angela "I think I'll have a nightmare tonight. Sour dreams."
I put my phone on my bedside table and brought the blanket over my head.
"Shit," I whispered, and fell asleep.
