" Please don't do this to us, Jennifer." Jennifer heard a small voice say.
She tried her best to ignore it. She was about to hand her parents the ten sticks she had found in the forest when she heard another voice that she knew wasn't either of her parents' voices say:
" Yeah, don't do this to us. Please, Jennifer, please."
Now, Jennifer really couldn't ignore it. But, before she could walk back into the forest to figure out where the small voices were coming from, her mom asked:
" Were you about to give these sticks to us?"
" No, Mom. I realized that these sticks are probably not strong enough to be used for the bonfire."
" Okay, honey." But, of course they were strong enough. She wondered why her mom had believed her.
As she walked back into the forest, she called, " Whoever just told me something, please tell me where you are."
She saw some sparkles fill the air once again as a small voice boomed ( despite the fact that it just sounded like a normal voice to Jennifer), " Right here."
The voice came from one of the sticks. Jennifer, despite all her knowledge about nature, didn't believe that a stick just talked to her. " Wait, did you just speak?" She had asked the stick.
All of the sticks replied, " Yes. We can all speak!"
" Unbelievable. What are your names?"
" Our names are all the same. Our names are all Stick."
" I've got to tell my parents about this!" Jennifer ran out of the forest, about to tell her parents about the talking sticks.
" No! Please don't. Our identities should only be revealed to the people( and inanimate objects) we trust. We only trust you because you're super smart."
" How do you know I'm smart?"
" When you ran out of the forest, you knew how to get out. You didn't get lost. "
" Okay, I promise not to tell my parents about you. But, you have to answer this one question: are you magical sticks?"
" Wait, how did you know?"
" Remember?" Jennifer asked, a smile on her face.
" Oh yeah."
