Jennifer realized that she was in a dream. Wait, it wasn't a dream. It was a nightmare. A really scary nightmare that never ended. But Jennifer knew she had to do something about it, and fast. She noticed that her parents were in the same dream as she was, only they didn't know where they were. Obviously. Why would her parents know where they were if it wasn't even nighttime yet? About a million questions popped into her head. How much time do we have to escape from here? How do we even escape from here? Is it possible to escape from this nightmare? These were questions Jennifer kept asking herself.
"Okay," Jennifer thought aloud.
She had remembered what her dad had said when she had asked him why she had to get ten sticks for the bonfire. Her dad's answer was," One for each of the years you have lived, Jennifer." Had the sticks possibly heard their conversation? Probably. Yes! She knew something.
" That's it!" Jennifer exclaimed happily.
But, she didn't solve the entire puzzle. The sticks were giving her ten of either seconds ,minutes, hours, days, weeks, months, years, decades, centuries, or millenniums. Probably not days, weeks, months, years, decades, centuries, or millenniums, though. 10 days would be too long, and being in a nightmare for 10 days seems even longer. Since weeks, months, years, decades, centuries, and millenniums are even longer, they would be even much longer than days in a nightmare. Not seconds, either, because if so, she and her parents would have already been stuck in this nightmare forever. Besides, the situation she had just been in lasted more than ten seconds. What about hours? No, it was less than an hour until the sun would set, so by the time an hour passed, it would already be nighttime. She knew, from the spell one of the sticks had cast on her and her parents, the very one that caused them to be in this nightmare, that the spell only lasted until it was nighttime. That left minutes. Minutes! Ten minutes! That was how long she had to save her parents from this terrible nightmare.
Jennifer knew that she had to get to work right away. After all, she only had ten minutes to get out of the nightmare. "Mom? Dad?" Jennifer called out to her parents.
" Jennifer? Where are we?" Jennifer's parents said in unison.
" We're in a nightmare!" Jennifer exclaimed.
" Oh no! Do you know how to get out of here, Jennifer?"
" No, but I know how much time we have to get out of this nightmare."
" Wait a minute! I see ten shards over there!" Jennifer's dad told Jennifer and her mom.
" Where?" Jennifer asked.
" There! In the grass outside the forest," Jennifer's dad replied.
Jennifer and her parents rushed off to the grass to get the ten shards. One shard said, " Please don't do this to us."
" Oh boy," Jennifer said, trying to hide her grin.
