Richie finally turns to face me,
"So, shall we date then?"
"Come on Zu Chiman! Just do it!" Micah pesters me, "Give it a try, if you don't like it then you can always dump him." He chuckles. "Besides, you guys look so cute together!" I waver between the consequences of being found out and trying out this thing known as love. Even if I only feel brotherly love towards him, I should give him a chance right? Finally, I nod. My heart pounds. I don't feel any different. Is this how you're supposed to feel when you date someone? It doesn't feel right. This is nothing like how the books I've read described. There's just a sense of.. wrongness to it.
The teacher calls us back in and we continue class. Since the school changed its schedule, the classes are now fewer but longer. I'm so glad this is my last year here. Next year we'll all be high schoolers. With everything that happened, I find that I can't focus on class. I try to sneak a read of one of my new books I borrowed from the library. I was really looking forward to seeing if the vampire gets the girl at the end! He sounds so badass and handsome. I feel like, if I were to get a boyfriend, I'd want one like him. The teacher catches me in the midst of my sneak reading and calls me out,
"Zu Chiman! Now is not your free reading time! We're in class. I know you love reading but you have to wait until you get home or class is over with to do that okay?" I flush in embarrassment and reply,
"Yes Ms. Bailey, I'm sorry." I put my book off to the side and pretend to pay attention to the rest of the class, itching to get back to my book. I just got to the part where she meets the male lead's terrifying younger brother.
