Loud and ear-splitting music was filling the whole room, colourful lights dancing in the dark, following the beat of the music. Screams and laughs added to the noise, competing with the music to dominate people's ears.
On the dance floor, bodies were swaying and grinding on each other in seductive move, inciting excited screams from the spectators. Boys and girls, they were all drowned in excitement, especially when the remix version of 'Happy Birthday' song was heard and a big birthday cake was brought on to the large dance floor.
"HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JESSIE!!!"
All of them shouted excitedly to the center of attention tonight, the birthday girl, Jessica Reese. The blond girl, wearing a skin tight aqua blue dress, approached the cake with a big smile on her face. All the routine for the birthday girl were done and the atmosphere was getting better when Jessie kissed a boy randomly.
Watching from the side, a petite girl was sitting in a booth, occasionally taking sip on her non-alcohol drink in her hand. Her long and silky black hair was tied up in a messy bun, some of the strands framed her cute but stoic face. Her dark brown eyes watched the party in front of her eyes as she hid herself in the dark, hoping that no one would notice her.
Alas, her hope was crushed when a boy approached her while the party was going even wilder.
"Look who is this! I thought you wouldn't come!" A grin appeared on his square face.
She shot him a small smile as she cursed inwardly. Why would this playboy-beginner talk to her?
She shrugged her shoulders in response. The boy didn't seem to catch on her uneasiness. Instead, she looked like a timid little mouse in his eyes, made her looked even more cuter.
Of course, she didn't know about what he was thinking. If she knew about it, she would snap at him for sure, turning from a timid mouse to a fierce queen. She talked to him, more like she only talked when she needed to reply to his question. Most of the time she would only smile, just a polite smile towards the young man while sipping her drink.
When will he leave? Jess, where are you? Help me!!
She pleaded inside. Her eyes scanning the crowded room to search for her best friend, Jessie.
"So, Cindy, do you want to hang out together next time?"
"Ah, I'm sorry... I-"
"Leave her alone, Gab! She won't get anywhere your sorry ass, ever!" A fierce and familiar voice came to her rescue.
Cindy let out a relief sigh. Just about time, Jess!
His face twisted in disdain as he walked away begrudgingly, throwing Jess his last glare in the process. The said girl glared at him back as she showed him her middle finger.
"Are you okay?" Jess asked her, her eyebrows frowned in worry.
"I'm okay, thanks for rescuing me." Smiling weakly, she hugged the taller girl.
"Nope, it should be me who said that. Thanks for coming tonight." Jess hugged her back, rubbing the petite girl's back, trying to soothe her.
"It's your birthday, after all.. Happy birthday!"
Cindy grinned, decided to let the previous uneasiness to slide behind her mind.
"Thank you!! Ah of course, I almost forgot. Let's drink!"
Cindy stepped back, successfully stopping Jess to pull her along with her. "I don't drink." She said apologetically.
"Don't worry, it's not like I'm gonna leave you here alone when you're wasted. Trust me."
"But ..."
"No buts! It's my birthday after all." She reminded her cute friend.
Not able to refuse any longer, she let herself dragged by Jess to the bar, where the latter ordered some drinks for the both of them.
Cindy hesitantly drank her first drink, but she found it rather surprising because the drink tasted fresh and there was a hint of sweet and sour inside. She took a sip repeatedly till her glass was empty, but soon it was filled again. So, she drank it again as she listened to Jess rambling about God knew who.
Everything seemed to move in faster motion. Next thing she caught on was blurry faces of people, talking in what seemed like a strange but familiar language. She vaguely felt that they wanted her to do something, but she kept shaking her head, trying to reject them all.
Her surrounding seemed to spin so she closed her eyes a bit and tried to steady herself. A familiar voice called out to her again. A frown formed upon her delicate eyebrows as she pouted a bit to show her displeasure to anyone who was talking to her.
What do they want from me?
Why can't they leave me alone?
Where is Jess?
Her mind kept asking those questions but her hazy mind prevented her to think clearly. If only she knew that the one who was talking to her was her so-called-best friend, who now was showing a displeasure and full of disdain expression towards her.
Standing in front of her was Jess with two other guys who were eyeing Cindy with lecherous gaze. Jess was trying to make Cindy take some suspicious pills, but Cindy had been rejecting her which caused her to feel upset. The two men did not help at all since all they were talking about was how much they wanted to get into Cindy's pants.
As they finally agreed to use a bit violence to achieve their goals, a loud growl came from the door, full of threat, and they felt their bodies was soaking in cold sweat instantly.
"Touch her and I'll fucking rip you to pieces!!"
Standing in front of the door was a sturdy and handsome man. The dim light created an impression of danger around him. His expression was stiff and his body exuding a death threat as bloodlust filled his normally beautiful eyes. His jaw tightened and his fist clenched. He looked absolutely serious about his threat and it shook the three of them greatly.
Since when did their school's star start to put his nose into other people's business?
