Chereads / A Hero's Return / Chapter 3 - Some Backstory

Chapter 3 - Some Backstory

The legend of the strongest hero has been passed down from generation to generations with each detail slightly different from the previous. But for thousands of years, his great legend has faded into oblivion as the need of a hero started to decline.

The world did not face any more conflicts just like before his battle of biblical proportions. And the people slowly started to change cultures and adapt to the changing times. His legend served as to become references of various mythologies and cultures around the world.

The peace and order he singlehandedly forged have stayed to become the foundation of the world is today as his glorious and celebrated name sank into the sands of time.

In this modern era, his existence has been interpreted and portrayed in various forms. Historians would argue that his existence was a mere fabricated story based on an unknown historical figure. Another would say that he existed but the lack of physical evidence rejected their claims.

The media portrayed him in various forms. A king, a knight, a hero, a gender bend character… anyways his character served to become inspirations for artists. But anyway, the point is, nothing and no one came close to knowing who he really is and what his legend is all about.

Maybe some facts were gotten right but some facts were so out of this world that let's just say it was not nice.

And the hero doesn't like any of it.

"THIS IS NOT HAPPENING!!!" A certain white hair is currently clutching his head. The look on his eyes displays the utmost denial of what he is seeing right now.

[Let's win the fight, master.]

[That's right, archer!]

He is currently watching one of the most watched series, Destiny. It features the story of a young man embroiled in a war that will grant the winner anything he wishes. The war involves 7 masters and 7 servants (sounds familiar?). The servant's identity is based on historical figures from the past.

And now he is watching a gender bend of his character as an Archer class servant in the series. Saying the portrayal was wrong would be an understatement of the year. Aside from the fact that it features a girl version of himself (which is cute in his opinion) everything except the name is wrong.

Starting off with the weapon of his choice, he will never or even ever use a bow as a weapon of choice. His intense dislike towards that weapon made it to the point that he will start massacring archer units during the war.

His history even, there is no such thing as a divine tree giving him/(her) a bow of such caliber. The last of those trees were uprooted by him. And that certain bow of epic proportions portrayed in the modern era did not even exist. The closest thing was a bow he personally broke using his knee.

The background was all messed up. He was not some sort of a king of heroes or king of archers. He was a mercenary of some sorts. Someone who would accept payment in exchange for service. He mostly dealt with kingdoms at each other's throats. That time was filthy, people fighting against each other. The negative emotions were so concentrated that it gave birth to creatures that will oppose the reign of humanity and will almost decimate them.

It was with a team of specialized individuals that the crisis was averted. They called themselves the Hero Party. It was composed of 4 people with him as a part. He was the poster boy for that organization that's why he was the only one to have the most recorded story in history.

The dream of one man, the end of conflicts gave rise to that group. Together they traveled the world to resolve the fights and war happening there. From peaceful solutions to razing an Empire to the ground, they've done it all. To realize their dream they were willing to do anything they can. Their group was even branded as terrorists.

It was the invasion of the "anti-humans" that gave the group the best opportunity to actualize their goals. Those creatures are in the very sense the opposite of humans. They wanted to end the reign of humans as the rulers of the world. They wanted to eradicate every single human alive and crown themselves, ruler.

The population saw this as a threat but for the group, it was an opportunity. So, they presented themselves as heroes. They named themselves as the Hero Party with Ye Han as the actual hero and the other three as party mates. Journeying from kingdom to kingdom repelling the invasion while also assassinating corrupt people and destroying kingdoms under the guise of the anti-humans doing it.

The terrorists became heroes and they, the Hero Party fought, day and night. They knew after everything was gone they would be left behind as relics of the past so that the newer generation will succeed. There is no happy ending waiting for them, it was a life of solitude. The loneliness of being detached from society due to the countless wars they fought. There will be no families to welcome them back, no community, just them. The four of them to comfort each other. Everything was supposed to be set in stone, the anti-humans eradicated and the world will be saved from those filthy creatures calling themselves humans but it all changed when she inserted herself to the picture.

But it will be a story for another reminiscing. Ye Han currently is still pissed of the character. "I did not act like that! Why are you blushing to that wimp?! Oh c'mon, his armor can even rival those forged by the divine race really, that plot armor of his is truly one of a kind." Ye Han would diss the character in every scene that she appears. He is now at the 13th episode of the series and it seems a new villain will be introduced.

"I wonder who this new character be." Inside his apartment, Ye Han could be seen draped in a cheap blanket watching the series from his third-hand laptop. He is currently slurping a cup noodle one day before its expiration. Beside him are a pile of empty cup noodles container.

His apartment could be described as small. It could barely fit all of his things, a cabinet, television, his bed, and a stove. Aside from the cramped atmosphere, it was also dirty to the core. Everything was disorganized, his clothes, garbage, and some paper were scattered all around his abode. Outside his window is where he hangs his wet clothes for drying. Inside was filled with garbage that it is starting to smell weird. "This place is looking filthy again, maybe I'll clean it next week."

He did some typing on his laptop. It was painfully obvious that he was very unfamiliar about using such technology. He is using his index fingers to type while also taking a good 1.5 seconds before finding the corresponding keys. "This laptop is really a steal. Even though it is a third-hand one but as long as it works everything's fine. It only cost 1 month of my whole living expenses."

Now finished typing, his bloodshot and sleep deprived eyes is currently waiting for the site to load so that he could watch the next episode. "Oh? Where's the episode? Wait…. Oh, I got so caught up that I am already at the latest episode. What time is it?" He then took his archaic phone to look at the time. "12:30 PM, it is already this late? Wow, guess that hero training did come in handy." Feeling proud of himself for his holiday escapade.

Armed with his laptop and cup noodle army, he finished 20 series all in the span of 5 days. He has not slept since 5 days ago. He is now tired and in need of sleep and fortunately, he has finished watching the last anime in his holiday escapade. "Now time to rest." But before he could drift to unconsciousness h was interrupted by a notification from his phone.

Taking another look he saw the name of his classmate, Akari.

[Get your butt down here Ye Han.

From: Akari]

"Omyghad I wanna sleep. But experiencing an angry Akari is not very nice, so guess I'll go." He got up his bed and went to the bathroom so that he can take a fresh bath since his last bath was also the same as the last time he slept.

Inside a warehouse, an unconscious Akari is currently tied down to a chair. Not far from her are a group of 4 men presumably the same age as her, huddling together.

"Did you sent the text?" A green Mohawk man asked.

"Of course, and I'm sure that he will be here." A man filled with facial piercings answered.

"This time, he will not escape." Smirked a guy holding a bat.

"We can now beat the guy up and have fun with this girl." Laughed the guy with chains wrapped around his hands.

"Soon!" They all cheered in unison.
