Su Lin quickly propped Luther's head upon her lap.
As the crystal rainwater streamed down his cheeks and then his neck, Luther looked at her. His lips broke into a smile, amused at her calm and indifferent demeanor.
"Aren't you scared?" He asked her in his coarse husky voice, barely finishing the sentence. "I am about to die." He calmly said as if it had nothing to do with him.
His gaze was unclouded and clear. He was not in the least bothered by his inevitable death, that was surely on its way. As he moved his lips, he coughed up some blood.
"Shhh." Su Lin rudely silenced him, not giving the dying man any face. She did not have time right now for his philosophical ramblings.
That amused Luther even more. He could feel her gentle hands graze all over his body, caressing every inch of his exceptional physique.
"At least buy me dinner first." He smirked.
Su Lin had already identified the shrapnel that was wedged close to his heart and threatening his life, but she wanted to make sure there would be no other complications if she intervened.
Once she was done checking the rest of his body, she quickly inserted her thin finger into his wound without any hesitation and dislodged the shrapnel to a safer location.
Luther winced as he felt the cold finger entering his body cavity, but he stayed calm and allowed her to do as she pleased with his body.
Why not? He was already dead and he knew it. It was a trivial thing for him. Something like life and death... He had made peace it with a long time ago...
But Su Lin didn't care. She still did her best to save the man on her lap. Just with that small act of hers, he was now able to breathe better and the congested feeling in his chest reduced.
"I don't deserve this mercy." He mumbled, but Su Lin had already placed him back on the ground and disappeared from his sight.
She could sense people, at least a dozen enclosing their location. She might be able to handle one or two, but she was not confident enough to handle a dozen.
So Su Lin reluctantly left him at the mercy of his fate and ran for her life. This was already the best help she could offer when her own life was in danger.
She gritted her teeth and ran away resolutely. She felt angry at the fact that she couldn't save him as she pleased, but she couldn't afford to stop and ensure his safety.
Watching her disappearing figure, Luther's lips curved upwards into a sarcastic smile. He suddenly had an urge to live.
For some indecipherable reason, he wanted to know her better. He wanted to see her again. He chuckled at the cruelty of his fate.
A groan escaped his pale lips as the mounting pain assaulted his tired body. He forced himself to stay conscious.
If he closed his eyes, even for a second, then it would all be over. He wanted to stay conscious and survive this tribulation.
Not long after Su Lin had left, a few sturdy men hurried over, circling around Luther. Su Lin had sensed the numbers accurately, but she was wrong. These were not enemies.
"Boss Boss Boss." Monkey ran forward with all his might, his eyes red and glistening with tears, that did not suit an assassin such as himself. "Squirrel, get the hell over here and diagnose his condition."
A man wearing spectacles rushed forward and checked Luther's injuries.
After a few minutes, the man addressed as Squirrel gasped in surprise.
"Our boss is very lucky. The shrapnel seems to have barely missed his heart. Let's get him to a safer location. There is no danger to his life at the moment."
The dozen men got to work immediately and they carefully moved Luther to a safer location.
They then completely evacuated their hideout from the Kawa Karpo mountain ranges. This place was no longer a safe option for their accommodation.
Soon, two helicopters left the forest area, and just like that, within minutes, the entire mountainous region was restored back to its natural peace and serenity.
But unlike the calm and tranquil mountains, after today's incident, Su Lin's life would no longer be the same and she had no clue about it... at least for now...
Once Su Lin reached the lower mountain ranges, she hastily hailed a cab and got to the airport as fast as she could.
The more she thought about it, the more she was convinced that she had gotten herself involved in some sort of violent gang war situation.
So Su Lin immediately decided to return to Hangzhou city, where at least she had the protection of the Su family. It didn't count for much, but it counted for something.
