After getting home from the hospital room that Eyan Bai had dragged him to, Carson felt nauseous. He had tried his best to avoid seeing her like that but being friends with her brother had cost him.
Feeling sick to his stomach, he showered, grabbed a beer and walked to his home office. He turned on his computer and all three monitors lit up simultaneously. He browsed through the footage he had saved from his investigation and became angry.
He knew who was responsible for the accident, but he wanted to find her first before he could tell Eyan and Alex. His grip on the beer bottle tightened as he read the information on one of the computer screens.
Carson read the information then print it all. He placed it in an envelope and left it on the desk.
Tired from reading, he leaned back into the chair and closed his eyes. The image of Zunnie laying motionless in the hospital room flashed through his mind. The pain in his heart became unbearable as he thought of her.
Deep down he wanted her to forget everything that had happened. Maybe then he would have a chance to be with her.
'Is it okay if I think selfishly Zunnie Bai?' He thought to himself, his eyes still tightly shut.
'If she can't remember Alex, would she stay with him?' Carson continued wondering.
He had hacked into the hospital files and saw that the probability of her losing her memory was very high. Should she wake up and not remember Alex would that open a door for him and her?
Being in love with her for so long he had tried his best to not be rash with his feelings.
He became a mature and respectful man that would look good in her eyes. Yet still, Alex had beaten him to her heart. He cursed himself for not taking the initiative sooner. Even then, would she have rejected him as she had back in high school?
Although he wanted her to be the woman in his life, he really wanted her to not be diagnosed with amnesia. He combed his hand through his still moist hair and groaned inside.
"I wonder how I look in her eyes? Would she have loved me if I had pursued her? I guess I'll never know." He whispered to himself. The room was so quiet that if there was someone else they would have heard him.
Carson sighed picked up his phone and dialed Victoria's number.
"Carss it's been a while since you called. Do you miss me?" She spoke when she answered his call.
"I've been busy. I need a drinking buddy. What are you doing?"
"I actually just got back from America this morning. Want to go to RumCo? I heard they just added some items to the menu. I'll drive so you don't have to come to get me."
"Alright; then I'll meet you there in thirty minutes." He ended the call.
The truth is he didn't want to see her with his emotions in disarray. But after reading the information and seeing the photos, he had to verify what was in that folder. When did they meet? He had not invited her to any of their outings; so how did they become friends so quickly.
He knew that if he asked her over the phone he would not be able to tell if she was lying or not. Meeting her tonight gave him a chance to see if there was more to them that he had not seen or noticed.
Carson arrived at the bar at exactly eight. Victoria was already waiting for him.
"You must have been really bored at home that you're on time tonight." He said with a grin and sat in the chair opposite her.
"What can I say? I missed you and couldn't wait." She stuck her tongue out at him.
They had been friends for a while and even if Victoria had a spiteful trait, their friends had always been good.
They ordered food and drinks and while they waited he took the chance to asked her.
"Have you heard; Alex and his wife Zunnie got into an accident and now she's in a coma?"
"Yeah, I heard about it. What does that have to do with me?"
"Ah, did you not come back for Alex's heart. I know you also went to her workplace last year and what you did there. Don't lie tome Tori. Were you involved?"
"I'm glad she's in a coma. She humiliated me. She deserves what she got. But I know nothing about her accident. I know I'm vindictive at times, but I gave up on Alex when I heard he got married. And above that, there is someone else that I like. I gave up on him to be with that person."
"So, you're saying you have really moved on... I find that highly surprising." Carson replied, amused that she had found a new lover.
"Yes, we recently started dating. Although he's a few years older, what can I say? He brings out the best in me." She grinned at Carson like a foolish high school girl in love.
Carson had been stunned into silence by her revelation. He was happy she was not involved. He could see that she must be in love with the person she's talking about.
He did not ask her any more questions relating to the accident. They drank and ate until they were full.
As he watched her car drive off into the night, he could tell that she had changed. Who would have guessed that Christopher Rougé was such a heartthrob? Carson was happy for her. He felt better after meeting with her and deep in his heart, he wished her the uttermost happiness.
However, he did get an answer to one of the many questions flooding his mind. How did Tami Rougé and Victoria come to know each other?
