Chapter 2 - Bird

The door opened and a cute little boy that looked about 8 years old appeared. Well, he looked 8, but he was actually 10, just a little small for his age. His blue-grey eyes looked at his older sister--specifically at her bedhead--with faint disapproval.

"Good morning", he said quietly. "We might be late, if you don't hurry".

May turned to her alarm clock. She doesn't actually use its alarm function; her bio clock usually wakes her up on time. [Not this time though], she noted to herself. Her brother closed the door as she got out of bed to get ready. After a quick shower, May threw on some clothes and brushed her teeth and hair. She went to grab her backpack, but paused when she heard chirping. She looked up at the blue bird by the window.

[Odd], May thought, her brow furrowing at the open window. [I could've sworn I closed that last night.]

The bird flew inside the room and onto May's desk, where it proceeded to have the crumbs from last night's sandwich for breakfast. May had left those crumbs in a neat pile specifically to feed this occasional visitor of hers, so she didn't mind, but.... "Don't you dare poop anywhere in this room", she said sternly.

Curiously, the bird stopped eating at these words and stared straight at her for a full 3 seconds before returning to its breakfast. May wasn't sure what to make of it. The first time she let this bird eat inside her room, it pooped right there on her desk. She'd chased it out and fed it outside from then on, but it always seemed to know when her window was open. Luckily, there has yet to be a repeat of that incident, but that didn't mean it couldn't happen again.

Not having enough time to chase it out AND get to school on time, May ignored the bird, left the room and went downstairs to join her brother for a quick breakfast. And so, she didn't see when the bird suddenly flew right out the window and sat on the nearest tree branch for just a few seconds, before flying straight back in and continuing to eat. On the ground, below that branch, was a splotch of fresh bird poop.
