Aarghhh.Why me??!!!
If only I can scream out my frustration. Too bad this is not the right place to do it.
"Can I sign the prenup after we married? I'm not familiar with the law terms, maybe we can create a new one afterward to satisfy both of our sides?" I try to negotiate.
Maybe he was not unreasonable at all.
Never sign anything if you are unsure the contents inside it since there are the probability that the legal binding may harm or put you in a great disadvantage in the future. It was one of many wise words from my grandma. So with such a limited time I have at this moment, I try to find a way not to sign it. Until I truly comprehend and satisfy with my understand, only then I'm willing to sign it.
"No. Prenuptial agreement is only valid if you signed it before we are married since many of my assets could be considered marital property."
"Are you THAT rich?"
I don't like rich people, especially that come from old money.
"Let just say it was to protect both our side. Don't worry you will be compensated fairly."
This is not about money. It's about my future. That's one of the many reasons I don't like rich people. Not everything can be compensated or solved by money. For instance, once I get the title "widow" in the marital status column, my life will be more complicated.
I flip the first page of a prenuptial agreement.
Your name is Alexander Graham Wentworth?
The man in front of me just nodded, confirming it was indeed his name.
At least I won't become Mrs. Malina Smith Bell. I'm sure I will have a hard time convincing my friend to take me seriously when I said my husband name is Alexander Graham Bell. Wait a minute. How come the bride name is Malina Rose Smith and not Sis Gie's name, Gieanne Violet Smith?
"When did you prepare this document? Did you kidnap my sister and planned all this?!"
I know I cannot help my self from getting paranoid and suspicious. My sister just missing less than two hours and the groom part just arrive on the scene. How on earth do they know that my sister will be missing and even have time to prepare this document?
"You know you are wasting time now? You only have 2 minutes left after all to make a decision."
Alexander glance again at his wristwatch.
"When my time up, what will happen?"
"I will withdrawal my offer to be a solution of your situation and go to next candidate at the main city. Because I need to get marriage by today."
So I was overestimated my value. It gives a bitter taste in my heart. Well consider today crisis, he, of course, was on disadvantage. Getting hitched with a plain teenager with no extraordinary background.
But it was not easy for me to give answer straightaway because he was 100 percent stranger to me. Combined with lack of time to read the document, I cannot properly analyze the pro and cons to going along with this plan. Even with a bit additional data that I gather in this room.
Sorry, I refuse!
There's is no words I can describe how much I want to yell it on top of my lungs. But the image of my father suddenly flashes in my mind. His expression when mouthing the requests of my help a while back, is the main reason why the particular sentence I yearn to shout it loud, with a heavy heart, I must throw it over the window. Because I make a vow of myself before, to always protect my family, physically and mentally.
"Is everything okay? "
My father standing at the door with a resigned face.
"Yes, Father. Everything is fine. Can you excuse us for a moment? I need to talk with Alexander a little bit more."
I smiled happily, trying to assure my father.
With that reply, my fate already sealed to become a young bride at the age of eighteen.
After making a sure father leave us, I turn back to face my future husband.
Can you promise me four things during the duration of our marriage? I don't know if my requests clash with any terms or conditions in the prenuptial agreement. If you disagree, I don't have any reason to go through this plan.
"State your wish"
First, help me find my big sister. Second, please be a true son-in-law to my father. Third, we cannot consummate this marriage. Fourth, please be a faithful husband because I plan to be a faithful wife to you. If you agree with all this, whatever condition you put in that agreement I will..."
( do?consent?follow? Ermm what the right word? Think!! I totally cannot remember the appropriate words to use. Ahhh, found it!)
"I will agree with it".
"Number one, I will do my best to do my part in your family. Number 2, I will help you with my best ability. But for number three and four, I have a problem to understand it. Care to explain the reason for the last two conditions of yours? After all number three and number four condition will clash with each other. For your information, I'm not a monk."
My brain freeze for a second. He got the point there.
How did he suppose to be faithful if I deny him the marital rights as a husband?
"My third condition is simply because of two reasons. It will complicate our relationship and this marriage is just a temporary solution. And my virginity, I will save it for my next husband. The lifelong husband."
I do hope he can see why this condition is reasonable. Because I keep watching his expression the entire time of our conversation, I notice a slight conflict expression on his face for two seconds before he put his expressionless mask again. And still, I continue my reasoning.
"This also because I don't want risk any possibility we produce a child from this union."
"Do you hate children? Or that just refer the children that came from me?"
"I like children. But I don't want to be separated from my child when we get divorced. Because rich people, of course, making an heir become their main priority when they get married. So the child can inherit the legacy or money whatsoever."
"And I know with our family background and me, myself, not achiever mom or anything will have a difficult time to win the custody right. So, not consummate our marriage is the best solution."
"So you want me to seek pleasure outside marital bed? Is that what you imply? Because if I do that, I will automatically violate the fourth condition."
