Chapter 13 - Chapter 13

It's been a day since I've found this road and already I'm missing the magical forest. And a car, that would be nice to have.

My walk through the magical forest was like hiking and I didn't mind not having a car. But walking on this road is boring. The scenery never changes, all I see is grass and more grass. The occasional tree sure, but still! The magical forest at least had some mystery behind every leafs shadow or I could stumble upon some grand clearing tucked away.

Sadly this road doesn't even have a sign on it, the hut in the middle of a magical forest at least had that much!!!

My growing need to see at least another human increases by the second, even though whenever I eventually stumble upon one I won't even know how to communicate with them. At least I'll know that I'm not alone here.

Continuing my trek down the road, I pray for anything to happen. And like I just planted a metamorphic plot flag, a dark red blur zooms out of the tall grass to my right, crosses the road and back into the tall grass on my left. Now when I say tall grass, I mean it's a meter high. Just tall enough to hide whatever that was from being seen. Since it didn't bother to stop and check me out, I might as well keep going forward. So much for a plot flag being planted.

Not even five minutes after the red blur, some sort of sound could be heard coming towards the road from the same direction the red blur exited the tall grass. A deep grainy masculine voice that would cause anyone to bleed from their ears erupts from the small body of a figure that bursts out of the tall grass.

Probably not realizing they came upon a clearing with no grass, the figure promptly face plants onto the road.

Their yelling session pauses for a moment as the small figure realizes what just had occurred.

Long braided dark red hair is hidden under a metal helmet, tan leather garments surround his small frame with metal platting covering his vital areas. A large war hammer is strapped to his back. Taller than he is, the war hammer is a dark grey metal with red metallic decorations covering the hammer end.

Thinking that a small child just fell over, I decided to go and check on him. Now I know it's kinda stupid to do, but come on what could he actual do to hurt me?

Just before my hand touches the small boy, the red blur returns and tackles me to the ground. Painfully hitting the ground, I prepare my magic and start to gather the earth beneath me.

Seconds before the earth spikes are about to form a voice freezes the red lizard on top of me.

"SAL!! You bloody fool! How dare you run off and now you attack this lassie!"

The small boy seemed to have gotten back on his feet and was facing me and the red lizard named Sal. However, the face of the little boy I was expecting to see in no way match reality. To be honest I should have guess from his voice alone, but come on!

What stood before me was not a little boy, but a fully grown dwarf. With a full dark red beard that was braided with wood trinkets throughout. Small ears that were the chubby version of the pointed ears that elves commonly are portrayed with, could be seen sticking out of his dark red braided hair.

Looking as grumpy as one could imagine a dwarf being, plus all the anger from face planting after chasing a lizard for who knew how long. And that's the face that froze the lizard that tackled me.

Slowly moving away from me, I could finally see Sal for what he truly was. A dark red salamander with light red spots and golden eyes was the size of a fully grown large dog. Sharp black claws tapped the ground as he reluctantly made his way over to the angry dwarf.

Quickly checking myself out to make sure that those claws didn't hurt me during our brief struggle. I'm relieved to find no harm was actually done.

A loud thump brings my attention back to the dwarf and salamander, followed by the sound of something hitting the ground. I see that the dwarf had hit the salamander on the head so hard that it collapsed to the ground.

Chuckling at the misery he just cause the salamander, the dwarf brings his attention towards me once again and walks towards me.

"Well hello there lassie! I go by the name of Philonious."
