Arriving at the village didn't take as long as I originally thought. With Philonious and Sal running towards the village, I kept up with them as best I could. In front of the village gate stood two human guards, both wearing armor similar to Philonious. However, instead of the large war hammer that he had, these two had shields and with either a sword or a spear at their side.
Looking at the fast approaching trio the guards tensed, ready to take any action should they turn out to be hostile. When Philonious finally came close enough that they could make out his face, the tension was slowly released from their body. But not entirely. I was an unknown factor still.
When we were finally in earshot Philonious slowed down, cupped his two hand over his mouth and bellowed out towards the guards. "YO! Marcus! Dave! How's guard duty treating you?!?" Chuckling after the last statement, I could see the two guards shake their heads in annoyance at Philonious. Shaking both of their hands, either Dave or Marcus spoke up right after to Philonious. "Phil, who's the little lady standing behind you? Not that we don't trust your judge of character or anything..." The other one piped in his opinion as well, "Yeah, anyone who can stand being near you for more than a minute must be someone special." Getting a small wink from that one, the other one continued talking. "Anyways, who are you young lady?"
All three turned in my direction, Sal on the other hand was sunbathing on a near by rock. With all the sudden attention, I became a little nervous. Making eye contact with each one, except Sal there was no point in that, I started to point at the ground. Making the earth move in a way that made it look like I was writing in the ground. I started to write my introduction when silent versions of holy shit were exchanged between the three of them. Sal, sadly, was still sunbathing.
Finished with writing my name in my world's written language, I smiled at the three of them and pointed down at the ground again. Though the smile was one of the most innocent ones I could make, these three apparently didn't see it this way.
Which ever one was the one with the sword had it halfway pulled out of its sheath, the one with the spear had it pointed in my direction and Philonious had his arm half way up to the shaft of his war hammer. Sal still didn't care, or maybe he didn't notice my use of magic like the rest of the magical creatures I've encountered so their wasn't anything to react to.
"Now lassie, I'm going out on a limb here and I'm gonna say that what you just did was not meant to be hostile. However, keep in mind that to everyone here what you did can be considered hostile." Philonious said in a grave tone.
Nodding my head in acknowledgement, Philonious continued to speak to me. "So I'm taking a guess here lassie, but what you just did to the ground was some form of magic correct?" Nodding once again, the guard with the sword asked the next question. "How could that have been magic Phil? Your pet salamander didn't react to it at all!" The one with the spear gave a nod of his own at his partners protest, he apparently agreed with the other guard.
"Dave's right Phil. Even though we can barely sense mana, we can still see the spell matrix before they use it. And that my friend didn't look like anything a mage would do, let alone a magical creature like Sal over there." Using his thumb to point towards the sunbathing Sal, finally revealing which guard is which.
Philonious looked at Sal and confirmed that his pet had not indeed seem to notice the magic used by the me. All three returned their attention to me. Smiling innocently again, I wave my hand at them in order to say hello. Both Dave and Marcus returned their hands to their weapons, Philonious however waved back with his own version of a innocent smile.
Silently chuckling to myself with Philonious's antics, both of the guards relaxed at his reaction to my hand wave.
"So Lassie, you can't talk can you?" Getting straight to the point, I nod my head at Philonious's Statement.
