Then, they took a step forward to the door and what they saw when they crossed the door took their breath away.
Columns and columns of bookshelves as far as the eye could go. There were also many glass cabinets, but mainly bookshelves. The smell of old books filled the air.
"Whoa! I know I'm repeating myself, but… whoa!" Leah exclaimed as she went deep into the huge building. "It's just…"
"I know. It's bigger inside than outside," Eva finished for her.
"Ha, ha! Not what I meant, but yes, that's the truth," Leah admitted.
"Well, ladies, if you have finished admiring the architecture of the building, I think there is someone here that wants to meet both of you. So... if you want to follow me...," Lucien said.
He guided both sisters by a corridor between the bookshelves, without explaining much about this place. Obviously, this was a library. Well, a library with a humongous collection of books, but Leah and Eva had the feeling that there was something else here. That within the pages of those books may be the secrets of the universe.
Finally, they arrived at another big door. However, this time Lucien knocked at the door.
Knock! Knock!
"Darius, it's me, Lucien. Open the door. I've come with some guests," Lucien said to the door.
But no answer came from inside. Again, he knocked at the door.
Knock! Knock!
"Oh, come on! I know you are there. Open the door! Now!" Lucien insisted.
Immediately, they heard someone approaching the door, opening locks and then, the door opened.
"Oh, my! Lucien! I didn't know you were here," Darius exclaimed. "Please, come in. I see you brought two beautiful young ladies with you," he continued while looking at the sisters.
Leah and Eva looked at him. He seemed to be a half-blood: a mix of two races.
A long time ago, half-bloods were despised, since races wanted to protect their purity and did not want to mix with other races. Nowadays, however, this was not a problem anymore. Or at least, for those who have a mentality much modern and open. In fact, for many people being a half-blood equals to be different. That means you are unique, special.
Darius seemed to be half elf and half dwarf. The physical appearance and elegance of an elf, but with some typical gestures of a dwarf.
Darius closed the door and turned toward them.
"Wait here, I will call L."
He turned around but stops.
"By the way, if you want to lose a hand, you can touch whatever you want. Not that I would recommend it, because, you know, the potion for growing a limb is quite nasty. So, do whatever you to want to do, but remember... some of the stuff here has some dangerous curses," he said while turning around and walked between mountains and mountains of books until he arrived at a big desk and disappeared.
"Hey, is it just me or everything in here is big? And, did he just say 'dangerous curses'? I think we should go. Like now," Eva said to her sister.
She turned toward the exit when something blocked her way out. She looked up and she realized that it was not a thing, but a person. Lucien bent down until his mouth was near Eva's ear and whispered:
"I didn't think you would be a coward. Where is your spirit of adventure?" Then, he winked at her.
Eva took one step back and, with a frown, turned back. 'Jerk,' she thought.
"Well, well. Look what we have here, Darius. The Drakos sisters. Finally," a voice that came from behind a mountain of objects piles up on the desk, where Darius has disappeared, said. "What do you think? Am I right or I am right?"
Eva and Leah turned toward the voice to find a very interesting man. He looked younger, with an aura of an elder. He had long white hair and no beard. He was wearing a white tunic with gold embroidery on it. And most peculiar of all was the tattoo that ran along the right side of his face and that went from his hair to the edge of the tunic around his neck.
"And you are...?" Leah asked, although she already knew the answer.
"I'm the Librarian, but my friends call me L. Who were you expecting?"
