Back to the house, at night...
Eva was laying in her bed. She seemed to be sleeping peacefully. But she was not.
Her eyes were open, but all she could see was darkness.
"He, he, he! You're finally here," a distorted-male voice said.
She turned her head to the right, then to the left. Nothing. Only darkness.
"Where is 'here'?" she asked, trying to find where the voice came.
"He, he, he! Here is where you belong. The darkness", another distorted voice said, but this time was a female voice.
"You feel it, don't you?" the distorted-male voice said.
Eva turned and turned, but she could not find where the voices came from.
"Feel what?" Eva asked frightened. "This is not real, not real..." she murmured.
"Of course not. This is VERY real," the distorted-male voice said.
"You can feel it. Don't deny it! Your blood is calling, claiming for the darkness. He, he, he!" the distorted-female voice said. Although Eva could not see anything, she could feel that the distorted-female voice was smiling.
"You did well. Those puny seekers don't understand it," the distorted-male voice continued. "They don't understand you. You're powerful."
"They are afraid of you, and so they belittle you."
"Come to us."
"Find us."
"You're ours."
The voices kept talking one after the other. Eva turned and turned, but she still could not figure it out where the voices came from. She could not keep it anymore. She put her hands in her ears as if she was trying to silence them. But it did not work. Little by little, she bent down. She could not keep it anymore, so she did the only thing she could do in this type of situation.
She screamed.
"Enough! I said enough!"
"Enough…"
"Eva! Eva, wake up. You're just dreaming. Everything is fine," Eva heard at the same time she noticed she has been shaken.
She opened her eyes to find that she has been hugged. By Lucien.
"What are you doing here?" she asked, while she tried to free herself from the bad feeling that the dream had left on her. She still could hear the voices in her head and those final words, 'Come to us, find us, you're ours'.
"It's not what you think. I was talking to your sister when I heard you screaming. So, I came and, since you were shaking, I decided to wake you up," Lucien said as he gets up of the bed, and began to walk around the room, nervous.
"Okay. As you can see, I'm fine. Now, can you get out of my bedroom?" she asked, pointing the door.
He sighed, but instead of doing what she had told him, he did the opposite: he approached the bed and bent towards her.
"You scared the hell out of me," he whispered in her ears.
He got up and walked away.
She sighed. Not only she had to deal with what that strange man from before said, but also with that terrifying dream. The last thing she wanted to do was deal with some handsome shifter. 'Jerk, he is a jerk shifter; not handsome', she corrected herself.
She sighed again and closed her eyes. She knew what she had to do know, but that did not make it any easier.
She got up from bed, grabbed her jacket and her bag and walked to her door.
Fifteen minutes later…
"Okay. We are here. What do we do now?" Eva asked.
As you can imagine, they were again in front of the Library's door. However, this time Lucien was not with the girls.
Eva was trembling. But she did not know whether it was because of the cold, or because she was nervous. Or maybe it was because she regretted the way she talked to him.
"Hmm, L gave me this," Leah asked and she opened her right hand so that her sister could see the key.
Then, she closed her hand, walked to the door and placed her left hand on the door. She murmured the words that L said she should memorize and, suddenly her right hand started to glow.
"Ouch!" exclaimed Leah.
A burning sensation from her hand made her open her hand to drop the key. However, the key was not a simple key. Instead, a light, but still visible, 'k' appeared in the palm of her hand.
"What the…" Eva said as she approached and looked at her sister's hand. "Are you all right?"
"Yeah. I think so."
Suddenly, the door opened. The sister looked at each other, nodding, and then they entered the building.
When they were near to L's chamber, they heard he said, "See… What did I tell you? They came. Now, give me my ten bucks."
"Hm! Fine. Here," Darius said and gave the money to L.
"Did you just make a bet on us?" Eva asked a bit annoyed.
"Why not? Every decision that we make is a bet whether it will work or not," L said, while he put the money on his pocket. "Now, please, come in."
"Okay. So you win, we are here. Now, what?" Eva asked.
"Now… He, he, he! Now you get ready for your first mission: to retrieve the Shadow Ashwood Recurve."
