The moon was so bright and so full, it carried a strange night coolness with it. The blue rays of the moon shone on the two dozen eggs. The eggs of the least popular dragon in the world, The Fruit Bat Dragon. They were known for there lazy nature, also for having no fire-breathing skill or ice breath skill. In the Night Watcher Dragon empire most of the Fruit Bat Dragons were slaves.
The two dozen eggs under the moon had a dozen Night Watcher Dragons six Emerald Eyed Dragons, great hard working slaves or even black Smith's, four Fluffy Fox Dragons, natural slaves, and two Fruit Bat Dragon eggs. Eggs hatched under the moon increased the power of a young dragon and on rare occasions made them very smart. To get a Fluffy Fox Dragons under the moon the parent painted the eggs black or emerald green usually the penalty for such was death to the parents and harsh setting for the baby. Fruit Bat Dragons were so rarely born the the Night Watcher Dragons don't really care.
But this moon, so bright and beautiful. It was honestly a shame that there was not more eggs on this night.
...
The Night Watcher Dragons gathered to see there new warriors be born. The Fluffy Fox dragons gathered nervously in the back hoping that there little one could save there race. The Fruit Bat Dragon at the back was staring at her two eggs. There father was not here to busy trying to please the Night Watchers. ' Please please please. Let my little ones be okay. ' The dragon thought. Her appearance was strange. Fruit Bat Dragons usually were dark brown on some nice occasions they were light gray, the Fruit Bat Dragon praying by the other higher ranked dragons was white. She was beautiful in the eyes of her fellows but in the eyes of others she was a freak, a mishap in science. She hoped her lovely little ones were gray or brown. It would draw the attention away from them. Midnight came with a loud call from a Fluffy Fox Dragon. A Dragon with no wings - instantly known as a Fluffy Fox Dragon - cream colored scales and gray eyes came for ward.
" Darling how are you doing tonight." The Fluffy Fox Dragon asked. Darling looked up. She was fiddling nervously, and her eyes were zipping around.
" Den I am so worried. My baby's are going to hatch. I still have to do work but me and there father worked out a schedule for this." Darling said her voice shaking. She growled at her self. She hated sounding scared. Den opened her mouth to say something but then...
'CRACK!!!' The sound of the eggs ahead. Every Dragon looked around. A black egg had a huge crack in it. Baby claws dag out of the soft eggs shell. ' Another ruthless Night Watcher.' Darling thought and cursed her self for it.
The nigh drew on. For nearly two hours all that hatched were more Night Watchers. Then as the moon was about to fade, two eggs broke exactly at the same time. Darling looked up and she felt the sudden joy so much she felt dizzy. Her eggs. They were hatching.
...
The air above the egg shell flooded in. He sneezed. Then gulped the new air and pushed the walls of the eggs aside.
'CRACK!!!' The egg shell broke enough away for him to see the last seconds of the moon. The brightest moon he would ever see in his life. The blue glow seemed to go in his veins and he yelled as it left the sky. He looked over. Sister. She was pretty, Her gray scales matched her gray eyes well and he felt instant love for her. There was something, noise. The yelping of fear and joy, pride and terror. He instantly knew it was mother. He stretched the wings that were plastered to his back and said in his baby language, ' Mother, Love you. ' This seemed to delight the beautiful dragon that was his mother. He could not help but think how she looked like the moon that just disappeared. The there was something else. Some dragon that was dark and mean. He shoved mother away as a little dragon strolled by. He look at this baby's black scales and deep brown eyes. The baby seemed to know that this dragon even though still young was better than him, more than him. He glanced at his sister she was looking at this dragon that pushed mother. She had something on her face. Hate. He started to cry. The sticky tears running down his cheeks. Mother comes and she says something about his crying and then something he understands.
" You are my little Moon. " He stopped crying looked at sister. Mother brings her over. Mother says more things but Moon understands more than last time.
" See... Sister... She is your Stars." mother says. Sister is star. Moon liked that name for her. Star and Moon.
...A few months later...
Star looked over the hatchery. Of course they don't get the ones the ' Wonderful ' Night Watchers and the Emerald Eyed. The strong Emerald Eyes any way. She caught sight of the wingless group. They don't even have parents. Star always felt bad for them. One for not having wings and two no parents.
" Hey Star." A voice jolts her. It's Pine. He's Emerald Eyed Dragon with a low name and a low rank like her. She smiles.
" Hey Pine where Moon, and Buggy." She asked if they had Moon - Her bright brother - and Buggy - The cutest Fluffy Fox Dragon in the world- They could play tag, or even better boost each other up and see the higher better hatchery. Pine whipped his tail to the two baby dragons. They where both rough housing. Pine never joined them he always said he had a chance of moving up to a low ranking warrior in the future if he stayed polite and respectful. She smiled as she saw her pale white brother and Buggy a sandy coloured dragon with his first bit of fluff coming behind his big ears. " Let's go get them to look at the high rank hatchery." Star said eagerly. Her and Pine strutted over there and broke there tussle up.
" Sister Star I totally slayed this no good for for you, Buggy that's what they call him in the wild." Moon said a big dumb smile on his face. Buggy shot Moon a look.
" Yeah, right. I slayed this bright booger up for you Pine. We will stew him up. " Buggy said happily swatting Moons head. Moon laughed and Pine held in his giggle. Star snickered.
" Come on we are going to see the high ranked hatchery." Star said.
"I wish we could live there in real life. " Buggy said sadly. He never had a chance to leave. Here in the empire of the Night Watcher dragons at least he was a slave, but out there people would kill him, skin him and put him up in there home. 'Every one of them is sick. ' Star would think every time she saw someone who looked down on Buggy.
" Me too. Playing hide and seek would be fun with more nooks and holes. " Moon agreed. Star looked at the bare hatchery. To play hide and seek you had to be a master. The hatchery was solid rock and have little to no holes and a few cracks in the uneven rough walls. She sighed. One day.
" Yeah. Lets go look at the little devils in there shrine." Pine said glaring at the tiny hole that looked into there hatchery. Star knew he wanted to move up only to sneak them things like a fish for Buggy or an apple for her and Moon.
The baby dragons came to there hole. Or at least directly under it. Buggy took the bottom first then Pine, Moon let Star take the first look. She climbed up on her friends, and peered through the hole. There hatchery was way nicer. The Rock was covered in nice soft thick fabric accordingly black. There was black and deep green pillows and blankets in the corners, the baby's were not wrestling not peeking through to see the terrible place the lower ranks were. They were reading or writing, having civilized chat. 'Ha, these stupid Night Watchers and ungrateful Emerald Eye...' She stopped her self from thinking worse. There was a tug on her tail.
"Star I wanna see. " Moon said. looking up at her. She sighed and agreed. Moon climbed to and stood and her shoulders. He stayed there a minute or two, Pine was next. One minute, two minute three minute. Buggy climbed on Moons shoulder after the rearranged the tower. One minute, two minute. Buggy usually don't look to long.
" Stupid top ranks. Once we become old enough and we both go to train camp, OOF." Buggy slumped to the rocky ground. OOF, was right.
During the first six months after they turn on year they needed to be trained to fight just in case of an invasion or something like that. Star thought it was so dumb. But maybe she could show them she was good enough to be middle rank. Maybe.
