Chapter 36 - His Wife, His Call

Both Liu Zijian and Han Meixiu left the island in the morning thus they were able to have lunch at the Emerald Imperial Hotel. For the time being, they would be staying in Liu Zijian's place near the hotel as they haven't decided yet if they would settle in K Country or Q City.

Han Meixiu didn't really care much where to settle down but she personally preferred K Country since she didn't have any ties in Q City anymore. Plus her best friend Li Xiaozhi was in K Country.

Liu Zijian was actually given an option if he wanted to go back to Q City or continue the initial plan to manage the newly acquired Imperial Hotels and expand it in K Country.

They would make a decision later this day.

After their lunch, Han Meixiu decided to check her apartment to get some of her personal stuff since she would be moving to her husband's place.

Liu Zijian went to his office and saw an envelope carefully placed on his table. Obviously it came from his brother looking at the penmanship. Before he could open it, he received his call.

"Little Zi! How about a biiig thank you to your brother? Aren't I your great master?"

"What's in the envelope?" He clearly wasn't going to answer his usual nonsensical greetings.

"You are just heartless. After I poured out all my knowledge, you're dismissing me like this…." Before he could finish his sentence the line was cut-off. Seriously? He didn't even finish his greetings yet. He sighed. He normally wanted to try to negotiate to let him handle the situation in exchange of those annoying and boring workloads on the desk. He recalled his conversation with his father the day before.

"What should we do?" He's eagerly waiting to be ordered so he could finally take a break from reading those papers that seemed to hunt him even to his sleep. He just finished explaining the findings of Ye Ming in Q City.

"We won't do anything. Let your brother handle it. His wife, his call." Mr. Liu responded nonchalantly.

With that the call ended as well as his hope to be pulled out earlier in his agony. 'Why is the exciting thing only happened to Little Zi?' He silently cried. He wanted to have a situation to deal with, too! He secretly wished to have a wife as interesting as his sister-in-law's circumstances. He sighed as he prepared the documents for his brother to read.

Liu Zijian immediately called his brother when he finished reading making the latter excited and his hope rose up.

"Should I do it?" Liu Zilong excitedly asked.

"When was this found out?"

"Monday.."

"Okay…"

"Can I solve it? I have a good plan…"

"No. Just do what you're assigned to."

Liu Zilong almost wanted to say 'Yes, Dad!' but the call already ended. He really sounded like their father when there's no room for negotiation at all. With that kind of tone, he's a hundred percent sure Liu Zijian wouldn't give him a chance to interfere much more tell him his plans. He stared gloomily at the table. 'I am bound to you. Should I marry you?' He dejectedly murmured.

Upon arriving at her apartment, Han Meixiu directly went to her bedroom to get her personal things and the first thing she noticed was the missing crime map she did with Li Xiaozhi.

She remembered it was still there when she packed her things that morning. It meant someone came and removed it? But who? Li Xiaozhi didn't have a spare key. Other than her, nobody knew about this.

She felt increasingly alarm as she scanned the entire bedroom. Everything seemed to be in place thus robbery wasn't obviously an option. Someone deliberately came and took it off her wall. What else could be taken inside her apartment?

Her heart pounded a little faster than usual when she reached out the dresser drawer located near the door. Though the drawers have their own respective lock, she wouldn't be surprised if it was opened.

She was holding her breath as she slowly opened the third one as it was the place where she put those documents.

'They're gone!' There was nothing inside of that drawer! She opened all in panic thinking she might have moved it to another drawer but still, they weren't there.

'Someone came and took them!' The missing documents were not just the findings about her parents but even her personal documents! Although she could get other copies of those, the mere thought that someone stole her things gave her a terror that somewhat shook her being. She started to tremble and her movement hastened. She couldn't stay a single minute inside. Being paranoid or not, she should be better safe than sorry and staying longer inside spelled danger enormously!

The moment she stepped outside the building, her mind cleared a bit. She wanted to know who came in so she went back and asked politely if she could view the recordings of cctv for the past week. The security officer in charge gladly permitted her request.

"There's no recording for Wednesday night?"

"Ah, yes. There was a problem around that time. But nothing special happened so.." He was implying that even though there was no recording there's no need to worry.

'Nothing special outside, yes.' She thought. But she knew it was the best time to come inside her unit. "What was the problem?" She was smiling innocently to convince the man to tell her something more.

"I wasn't the one on duty. But I think there was a sudden shut down for about an hour. And it took another hour to finally fix it." He answered. He really didn't want to divulge more information as it may affect their image since the young woman was a new tenant. If the news that their surveillance system encountered problem it wouldn't be good for them.

She wanted to ask more but seeing the reluctance showing on the man's face. She just simply thanked him and left as if it was not a big deal.

'An hour is more than enough to go in and out of my unit. The shutting down of the surveillance system was part of the plan. Provided that the culprit used the main entrance I can check the nearby CCTV, right?' But she clearly didn't have the authority to do so. If she would report it to the police, the matter of their secret investigation and those illegally acquired information would be exposed. She didn't want to inconvenience Li Xiaozhi.
