When I walked on my way to work the air was chilly as it brushed across my face. I unlocked the door to the coffee shop and fliped the light switch on.
As I grabbed my apron I looked at the time. 6am. Time went by slow as more and more employees came in. At 7:30 early working customers came in. I sat there in a daze and wondered if life will ever get better for me. This job, School, At home, Basically my life was boring.
Around 2pm a girl with a messy bun entered the shop. Her vision was on the ground. "One Cookies and Cream Coffeless Cooler Please." Her voice was soft and gentle, her voice was hevans music. I was stunned but blunk back to reality and replied with "Alright." I turned around and repeated her order to my Co-Worker. As I handed her the drink I noticed a tear drip from her eyes, I looked closer and noticed her eyes were violet. She gently grabbed the drink and sat next to the window.
It wasn't something you would call 'Love at first sight'...maybe say it 'Sparked interest'. The next day at aroung 2pm The same girl came in, ordered the same thing, and sat at the same spot. But instead of staring out the window like she did yesterday she whipped out a pencil and a notebook and started drawing. I looked at her and wondered what she was drawing.
The next day she came in at around 2 p.m. and did the same thing, sat in the same spot, and worked on the same drawing. Every chance I could I took a glance over at her and guessed what she was drawing. It was like that every day for almost 2 months. her hairstyle never changed, her order stayed the same and her spot remain her spot.
Winter rolled in and the wind became harsher. "One Cookies and Cream Coffeless Cooler Please." she said but this time... Was different. Instead of looking at the ground her violet eyes stared into my soul I stared her till she said "Excuse me?" I shook my head and replied with a smile "It's getting cold and it is a coffee shop. Do you want a hot latte instead?" she shook her head "Nope. Just the usual." she smiled and I felt my heart skip a few beats, or it was beating faster. I'm not so sure. I gave her the cooler and went back to secretly gazing at her.
Days went by and Christmas was approaching. The days went back to normal with her staring back at the floor. One day for my break I sat next to her "you've been working on that drawing for a while now. What is it?" she looked at me, surprise them back down to paper she had covered. "N-nothing special." she stuttered. we talked about the first day she had come. I found out she didn't like coffee because it was bitter. I laughed and ask back to our first topic. "Why were you crying the first day you came?" she stayed silent for a little bit. "My closest friend left me for a boy." I nodded to show my understanding "Yeah hurts when it happens. Happened to me back in March. I thought you might be crying because your boyfriend left you." I chuckled to lighten the mood. She replied quickly with a "I've never had a boyfriend!" she said in a loud whisper I couldn't help but laugh at her reaction "Okay, okay, I haven't had a girlfriend either. We can be single Pringles together." she looked at me with an innocent face. Her cheeks were flushed pink. My break ended and another shift began.
The next day she came in again. This time when I was on my break I went to talk to her again. When I got there she offered me the spot next to her and I took it. A few minutes after talking about my job another friend of the messy bun girl came in. "Yo, Yuko!" I looked at her as she waved back to the girl who had entered. She walked up to us and sat down 'Yuko' I thought to myself. "What are your plans for Christmas?" asked Yuko's friend "I don't have any!" Yuko replied with a smile. "You can hang out with me and Tadase!" hearing a boy's name I assumed this is the friend who hurt Yuko "It's ok." "Whatever." Her friend replied and left "Yuki..." Yuko whispered I looked at her. She finally noticed and looked at me "Yuki, it's your name right?" "Y- yeah! How did you..." she laughed and pointed to my chest. I looked down and slaped myself. I forgot I had a name tag. "And Yuko is yours right?" I stared at her "Y - yeah." I went back to work.
The next week and a half was normal. On the day before Christmas I had Yuko's order ready. 2 p.m. came by. Then 3 pm. 4 p.m. rolling onto 5 p.m. I got upset and dumped her drink out at 9 p.m., she still wasn't there. I told my boss I was going to leave early. I made another Cookies and Cream Coffeless Cooler and left.
I bought a small cheesecake and started my search for Yuko at 11 p.m., right when I was going to give up I found her sitting in the snowing cold weather on a park swing. "Yuko!" I ran up to her. She looked up at me with teary eyes. "Why... Why are you here?" she asked me I looked down to her. "I was worried about you..." I replied sitting on the swing next to her.
We talked about life. I found out all the stuff that was happening in her life. I got up and hugged her. "Aah!" I remembered the cake and drink I had. I handed them to her "I know this holiday is supposed to be spent with your friend... But I'm here for you so don't cry !" she took the drink and the cake. We talked a little more. At 11:55 p.m. she told me she was going to go home because she wanted to be alone "It's almost Christmas though..." I said as I got up and grabbed her hand. She looked at me. "Yuko... I know I don't completely look like someone you would be interested in but these past few months with you have been the best of my life! And so if you could just give me a chance I could be the best boyfriend ever!" I looked at the ground, I could feel my face turn red. Yuko got right in front of me.
The bell for midnight rang. ~ding~ it was Christmas ~ding~ Yuko yelled something to me ~ding~ "What?" I looked at her in confusion ~ding~ she laughed ~ding~ I bent over to hear her ~ding~ "Say it again." ~ding~ she placed her hands on my cheeks and lifted up my head ~ding~ She pointed to the swing ~ding~ so I sat down ~ ding~ she walked infront of me and lifted my chin ~ding~ I blinked and the next thing I felt was Yuko's lips on mine. I opened my eyes ~ding~ she whispered on my ear "I said I love you silly." she smiled at me, grabbed my hand and we left the park. We spent our Christmas in a place that was closed. A place no one could bother us. The place that brought us together. The Coffee Shop.
