Chapter 31 - XXXI NavRavan vs Bhisma II

Bhishma aims at NavRavan's heart and slams it in, but it is stopped midway by a force field. NavRavan says, "I am not done yet!"

He pushes Bhishma backward through his force field.

NavRavan whips out two swords. A single leaf flutters in between them and it falls down taking a good few seconds doing it. The moment it touched the ground, both Bhishma and NavRavan were nowhere to be seen. They were so fast that they were invisible to the naked eye. There are sounds of swords hitting each other from everywhere. There is the occasional splutter of blood arising from the clashes.

Bhisma once again starts switching weapons like gears. He slashes NavRavan across the chest and kicks him backward. He Simmons his spear and spears NavRavan's guts summons his bow and quiver and fire an arrow at NavRavan.

Bhishma's experience, expertise, precision, accuracy, and skill shines in the battle as he goes on to precisely break down NavRavan down to nothing.

Bhishma dictates the pace and direction of the battle. NavRavan is easily beaten down initially, but he eventually gets a hang of Bhishma's attacks and their rhythm.

He changes his weapons in the same manner as Bhishma does and at the same speed.

Seeing NavRavan get a hang of his attacks, Bhisma ups the ante by inducing each attack with a different element. This once again ours NavRavan in the defensive.

Bhisma let's go of any pattern on his part and starts improvising each attack. He used more than one element for every attack.

He takes his sword slashes or at NavRavan with for and lightning, then summons his Gadha and combines it with earth and for and slams NavRavan with it. He then summons his spear; induces it with lightning and water and throws it at NavRavan. He once again brings out his Gadha and jumps and brings it down on NavRavan with fire, wind, and earth. He then whips his swords it and swings it at NavRavan with unyielding force.

The sheer randomness of Bhishma's continued attacks baffles NavRavan as Bhishma's attacks defy logic. Why cover the distance when you can just shoot an arrow? NavRavan nevertheless copies up with it and starts improvising on his own sure. He matches Bhishma's fire with his water, earth with lightning, wind with fire, lightning with wind, water with earth.

Eventually, NavRavan gets to the same standing as Bhishma's and they continue the battle as equals.

Bhisma smiles as he backflips and avoids NavRavan's does and then brings a shield to block his arrow and spear. Bhisma then let's go of all his weapons. His have are concerned with fire. He slams them down on the ground and tigers made of the Earth, induced with fire emerge in front of him. These tigers come down on NavRavan. Bhisma slams his hands on the ground once more creating a dome around them with the earth. It's practically a sphere as it goes down as well.

NavRavan fills his hands with lightning and fire and jumps up towards the top of the dome in an attempt to break out but many vines erupt from the ground and hold NavRavan within the dome. They pull him back to the ground as he struggles against them.

NavRavan frowns in frustration. It is clear that he doesn't want to fight anymore. He wants to escape.

Bhishma asks him, "Are we escaping now?"

NavRavan sends a lightning bolt at Bhishma who nulls it through a fist of wind. NavRavan sticks to weapons and rushes Bhishma with his swords. The vines and the tigers stop him midway. He battles the tigers with one hand and cuts the vines with the other. But Bhishma doesn't give him any breathing space as he sends wave after wave of elemental magic at NavRavan putting him on the ground once more. NavRavan struggles to get up. He is out of his form of elements. Anyone half the worth their magic would know that NavRavan was in the brink of death.

NavRavan looks at Bhishma and said, "This is but a tactical retreat. He who doesn't know when to throw in the towel never wins. I know that I don't invincible but mark my words Bhisma, I will come back! I will kill you!"

NavRavan spans his hands onto the ground and is covered by a sphere of energy that spins vigorously and vanished into thin air with NavRavan.

Bhishma says, "Tactical retreat, my ass! He is getting for his dear life with his tail between his legs!"

He brings down the dome as there is no need for it anymore. He looks around to see the destroyed landscape. The battle took a large toll on the forest and the river. Bhisma looks at the Ganga, presses his palms together and says, "Forgive me, mother. I shouldn't have destroyed this forest and the river. The next time I find that bastard, I'm taking him to the Kurukshetra!"

Charles's POV,

I can't follow the battle going on. Then Bhishma covers it with a dome. After waiting for an eternity, the done comes apart and Bhisma says something to the Ganga.

He then turns towards us and says, "NavRavan is gone for now. But he'll return. You all need to be prepared for him. I propose that You either come back to Hastinapura it go to Magadha. Three of you are swordsmen. You three can go to Magadha.

Magadha is home to one of the best swordsmen alive if not the best swordsman alive. He'll teach you swordsmanship. The other there can return to Hastinapura. I am not sure if Arjuna or Karna could have beaten NavRavan. He knows all the arts and is proficient in all of them. I am not sure if even Drona could beat him. He calls himself NavRavan and with good reason. NavRavan means the New Ravan. Someone proficient in just one military art and element would go down against NavRavan. There wouldn't be too much of a battle, to begin with. He'd overpower you with the element that overpowers yours and then he would destroy you. He has skill. But I am better. Regardless, let's go onwards."

That's what I needed- to know that NavRavan was invincible against all of us! Anyway, I still can't figure out the girl's identity. If only I could see under her mask.

[Mythological Titbits: The Pandavas had a rite of passage amongst themselves- Only one of them spends time with Draupadi for an entire year and then they would switch. If anyone walked in on their brother having alone time with Draupadi, they would have to go out of the city for an entire year.

One day, a farmer asked Arjuna for help in getting back his estranged cattle. Arjuna took his weapons and brought back the cattle. Then he realized that his weapons had been in Yudhishthira's quarters and that he had walked in on Yudishthira when he was having alone time with Draupadi.

He apologized to Yudishthira and went off the city. Yudishthira insisted that it wasn't a mistake but Arjuna wouldn't listen. He went on a pilgrimage throughout the country. When he went to the Ganga and took a bath in there, he found Uloopi, the daughter of the Nagaraja. She couldn't stand not being with Arjuna after seeing him. Arjuna saw her beauty and they got together for a night.

After that, Arjuna went around the country taking a bath in all the major rivers of the country. After doing that, he reached a city named Manaloor. There he met a beautiful princess named Chitrangade. He was enticed by her and wished to marry her. Her father Chitasen agreed on the condition that the child born would continue his line. Arjuna agreed to the condition and married her and then left for Dwarka.

He'd heard of Subadhra, Krishna's sister, with whom he'd fallen in love with by just hearing the description of her beauty.

He went to Dwarka dressed as a saint. There he slept under a tree and hoped for Krishna's help. That night, it rained heavily and Arjuna was soaked and wet in the rain. Krishna who saw this from the corner of his eye when he was having some alone time, started laughing in the middle of it. When his wife asked the reason, he told her of Arjuna's predicament. The next day, he met Arjuna and was laughing upon meeting him. Arjuna asked him to stop laughing and help him get Subadhra. Krishna told Arjuna to stay in Raivataka mountain.

Arjuna waited for a few days and Krishna came to the mountain with his brother Balarama and Subadhra for a festival that was held there. Arjuna sat saintly through the festival. When he set his eyes on Subadhra, he could not access them from her. She was so beautiful that he believed that he'd for if he didn't get her. He told Krishna of his predicament. Krishna smiled and went away for a while. Then he came back with Balarama. Balarama saw Arjuna sitting saintly and assumed him to be an actual saint. He asked him what he was doing there and Arjuna said that he was a traveling saint who never stayed in one place more than 3 days but since it was the rainy season he was staying in Raivataka mountains. Balarama felt that it would be great if he instead stayed in the gardens or the palace of Dwarka instead and had Subadhra take care of him. Krishna joked that it wasn't wise to leave such a young handsome man with his young and beautiful sister. Balarama who believed that Arjuna was a saint schooled Krishna for this. Arjuna secretly thanked Krishna for this help. ]
