Chapter 112 - Chapter 181 Successes

On the second night, there were no raids on Baron's base. However, for all he knew, this could have been part of Xuan Feng's plan to let them wallow in pain after losing Yue Fei, one of their most important strategists. Or perhaps Xuan Feng was just letting have a day off from night raids and would continue on a subsequent night.

The beginning of the third day was not something that Baron looked forward to. If he had low morale the previous day, what would morale look like after losing someone as vital as Yue Fei? He was unsure if he wanted to find out. However, it turned out that the troops actually had a much higher morale today as compared to tomorrow. Upon further investigation, the soldiers were psyched up more than ever to get back their leader.

Baron used this as a way to cheer himself up as well. If he could not pull through from the loss of Yue Fei, how could he expect his men to? A brief moment of strategizing later, Baron began to start the battle on his own terms. He had decided that he would continue to do battle as he had done exactly the same as yesterday, but this time, have most of the fighter strategists under Meng Wu to lead the charge.

What differed from yesterday was that Meng Wu would give the first wave a bit of a headstart in advancing, then rush in himself with the two Gatling gunners alongside him. As for Roxi, she would protect the strategists as much as she could and not stray her sight away from them. This should at least reduce the risk of the same thing occurring today.

The battle went underway, and just as Baron expected, the enemy forces were now fighting for real. They made miniscule amounts of gains for the loss of more than a couple of squads on the front lines. Baron had to switch things up and decided for the first wave comprised mostly of Meng Wu's men to split up into two and go target their left and right sides. This way, the middle would be left open for Meng Wu and the other two to do some serious damage. The middle part would be likely the most dangerous and best-defended spots within the enemy ranks.

With Meng Wu and the two others leading the charge of the second wave, their dominance showed and they smashed right through and continued on deeper into enemy territory. However, they were not so foolish as to think that they would be able to beat the trap that had felled Yue Fei yesterday. Therefore, they headed back after getting in far enough and hitting their enemies from the rear that were engaged with their allies. This proved to be immensely effective and they dealt massive damage to Xuan Feng's vanguard.

Baron wished to keep this barrage up, but the day was about to come to a close and he wanted to preserve the strength and morale of his men so that he could better utilize them tomorrow. As such, he called all of them back after their victory and not a single enemy followed. He knew that there was a possibility that he would be night raided again tonight so he put even more effort than usual to make sure that they had ample time to prepare if they were to be ambushed. There were no attacks that night, but Baron could guess that this wasn't all that Xuan Feng was planning for him.

On the fourth day of battle, Baron was unsure of whether or not to send in Meng Wu and his men once more. If he did, they were likely to make short work of Xuan Feng's men, but it was also likely that they were now prepared for the assault of Meng Wu. But if he didn't, who knows what might happen, he could not afford to lose any more of his allies. In the end, he chose to risk it and send all of them in once more. It would be risky to not send them in today as well since Xuan Feng had not really used his elite guard nor fighter strategists yet. Except of course, for making sure that they had Yue Fei safely in their grasp.

Baron was still not sure whether they had killed Yue Fei or not, but if they have not sent a message by now, it was likely that they did not plan on bargaining. This did not matter now as Baron really didn't have any hope of them releasing Yue Fei in the first place. He started the battle once again and he took his time to properly think out every possible move before he made them ensure he did not make any mistakes. The fourth day ended just like that with Baron's side winning more engagements and therefore taking out more of Xuan Feng's men.

As for the fifth day of combat, things really got heated as Xuan Feng finally sent in a few fighters to match up with Meng Wu and his muscular men. Meng Wu and those under him blew away those who were meant to stop them and continued rampaging throughout the day. Those fighters of Xuan Feng managed to get away due to some luck and some interference, but they got a lesson pummeled into them by Meng Wu. However, on the sixth day of the fighting, Baron decided to not go to Xuan Feng to start the fighting, he instead waited for his foe to come to him.

Baron was done going on the offensive, he figured that if he would be able to ride out the onslaught now, he would come out victorious. From what he gathered, he still had 20 thousand-ish soldiers still in fighting condition while his enemy had about 15. He still had the numerical advantage, but he had paid a similar price in achieving it.
