Chapter 7 - “What’s wrong afraid your heart will win over your mind again?”

"Aiden…"

"Don't talk to me right now." Aiden stopped Mia in her tracks, he was furious she had gone to his parents' house without telling him. If Chu hadn't of called him, only god knew what his father would have done. Mia remembered scenes like this as if it were yesterday. She would defy him and get the silent treatment, only for him to give in and forgive her when she didn't beg for forgiveness.

"Oh, you're mad now? Well join the club." Mia said childishly, she was trying to provoke him, so this deafening silence would end. However, Aiden didn't say anything else, maybe he had matured in their five years apart.

"I'm not a fan of kidnapping, could you at least tell me where were going?" Aiden still sat silent and drove towards his hotel. Mia spotted the luxury resort and couldn't help but sigh. Only the best for Aiden after all. Aiden picked up his phone and called Yang.

"I need some female pajamas picking up size 10, could you deliver them to my suite?"

"Of course, Master Li I'm right on it." Aiden hung up still staring straight ahead. Mia looked at him completely dumbfounded. Pajamas? Did he really think she would be spending the night?

"Master Li huh? Old habits die hard…"

"People die harder." He said bluntly shocking Mia with his composure, he really was scary when he was angry. Aiden pulled up to the hotel and waited for Mia to exit first. Mia stepped out and looked up at the luxury resort, she felt very out of place. Aiden walked ahead of her as she made her way to the entrance. In a last bout of defiance Mia turned away to leave but Aiden gripped her waist tightly and basically dragged her inside. Mia wriggled but he was too strong to fight off, so she gave up.

"Welcome back Master Li."

"Thank-you I have company tonight, so I won't need any room service." The receptionist jotted it down and glanced at Mia who was looking very defeated. Aiden's arm tightly craped around her waist she couldn't go anywhere, she was going to have to face him. Whether she was ready to or not. Aiden held onto her until they got to his hotel King suit. Mia walked in and stood awkwardly in the middle, Aiden payed her little attention and took off his work tie.

"Do you remember the promise you made me?" Aiden said expressionless.

"Huh?" Mia gasped at his sudden decision to end his silence.

"You promised me that you would never challenge them, I told you they're dangerous." He said coldly, like he had so soul. Mia could tell it was the calm before the calamity and knew she was just keeping her head above water.

"Don't you dare use promises against me. You also promised me that we would get married and settle down in our own home. Such childish dreams, how naive of me to believe you. We don't always keep the promises we make do we?" Mia was fighting dirty ensuring she could break down his wall. Aiden felt his anger bubble in his chest and let lose. Pushing Mia onto the bed, he pinned her hands above her head. Mia gasped at this sudden act and looked at Aiden towering over her with pleading eyes. His scent of cologne and his overpowering dominance left her at a stand-sill.

"W-what are you doing?" she said with blushing cheeks. Why had she come up here with him? Why did she let him drag her here?

"You feel helpless right? This is how you make me feel when you don't do as I say. What if they had hurt you Mia, how could you be so stupid." Mia looked away shamefully, she didn't realize Aiden left that way.

Mia, "You're the stupid one." She said sadly.

Aiden, "Explain?"

"You're stupid for falling in love with me. If I make you feel this helpless then why won't you let me go?" Mia still couldn't look at him and tears filled her eyes. Aiden tightened his grip on her arms causing her to wince.

"If that's the case then we're guilty of the same crime. I told you Mia, I want you to be by my side. I need you." Mia turned her head back and peered into his emerald green eyes begging her to stop fighting him.

"Damn it, why do you have to look at me like that?" she frowned naively. Aiden quickly smirked to see the conflict in her blue eyes.

"Like what?"

"Like a fragile teenage boy, like a single word could break your mind. It's such a turn off." She said harshly.

"I could change that, if anyone knows how to turn you on its me." Mia scoffed at his words and attempted to struggle writhing her body upwards causing her face to become closer with his where he held her up.

"What's wrong afraid your heart will win over your mind again?" he said with temptation, Mia continued blushing her cheeks brining being so close to him.

"Don't do it Aiden. If you think you can kiss me, and everything will be fine then your deluded, I should admit you. Next t—" Before Mia could say a word more Aiden pressed his lips against hers and Mia felt like her heart was going to explode. Slowly, he pulled away biting his lip in restraint.

"I thought that would shut you up, if your want to be around me so badly then admit me." Aiden smiled cunningly, and Mia felt her mouth smirk seeing his cheeks were also blushing.

"Don't get so carried away, if my hands weren't pinned above my head, they would be slapping your bright red face right now. Embarrassed?" she chuckled but Aiden wasn't laughing he was too busy fighting his lust for the girl he'd wanted for five years.

"Why did you go there? Not only did you compromise my ally, but you broke my rule." Aiden was deadly serious, and Mia remembered this dominant side to him from high-school.

"Your ally wasn't very good at composure, as for your parents I'm starting a war. Care to join?" she asked playfully trying to unhinge him even more. Aiden could see through her act, he knew her too well.

"You don't go around breaking into peoples houses with no good reason. Tell me what they did and I might be able to help you." He said desperately, Mia could see he knew she was hurt. Pulling her face away she rolled over to the side and a tear escaped her eye. Aiden released his grasp seeing she was upset and looked at her like a lost puppy.

"You can talk to me Mia."

"It doesn't concern you."

"They're my parents and you're my girl of course if concerns me. Are you done being stubborn?" he said furrowing him brows.

"Your girl huh?" she chuckled, he never was good at listening. Standing up from the bed she wiped away her tears and looked at him darkly.

"Do you know why I resent you Aiden? It's because I shook you off, everything inside my heart I let go because I though you didn't want me. I thought you had moved away to marry a girl better suited than the poor high-school girl. Now you come back and tell me you still want me. How do you think I feel?" Aiden bowed his head sorrowfully, she was right walking back into her life like nothing had happened was sure to stir her feelings.

"I never forgot you Mia. Girls would pitifully at my feet, but I shunned all of them. I want you, no-one else." He said with a genuine look in his eyes. Mia hit her head in annoyance and sighed.

"Stop saying that, you want what we had. I've changed Aiden, I'm not that sweet girl anymore." Aiden chuckled at her.

"Maybe not but you still bite your pen like you used too. You still have a temper that could cause the world to fall and brain to quick for me to keep up. You're still Mia, your just more mature." He said tauntingly. Mia was dumbfounded that he'd picked up all these things in the short time he'd seen her.

"Yeah well, you're still as suffocating as ever, you still wear that same old cologne. You still piss me off the same old way and you still think you can win against me." Both smirked as they realized it was like it used to be. Both bickering trying to gain the upper hand but that's what made the relationship they once had so interesting. It was no fun perfectly co-existing.

"None of us can win this one, let's call it." He said wickedly, and Mia pouted yawning from exhaustion.

"Can you tell me now?"

"Not yet, I'm tired of thinking about it. I'm going to bed." Just as Mia was about to leave Yang knocked on the door and Aiden zipped out for a few second returning with some fluffy pajamas in his hand. Mia looked at him like an alien and he couldn't help but smirk.

"You're not going anywhere, I told you what would happen if you broke your promise." Mia let her whole face go red as she remembered what Aiden meant when he said punishment.

"Are you wrong in the head, I'm not sleeping here. I'm not that desperate." She said childishly throwing the pajamas on the floor. Aiden sighed and picked her up as she squirmed in his arms. Yet again she was at his mercy as he pinned her on the bed.

"You have three second to let me go Aiden or you'll be sorry."

"Please, why so brave suddenly. Your cheeks are burning, you can lie but your body can't." Mia felt like her face was going to ignite as his words, when did he get so perverted? Mia was stuck this could go either way, she still hadn't forgiven him or even wanted to look at him, but it was true her body ached as she was under him.

"I'll put them on just get off me." Aiden grinned at his victory as let her up. Mia grabbed the clothes and stormed into the bathroom suite, as she locked the door, she breathed a sigh of relief and clutched her chest to try and stop the vicious pounding beating through her skin. How had it turned out this way? She was in a hotel room alone with her ex-lover, and she was so nervous he'd destroyed her composure. Mia changed and then looked at herself in the mirror, the bags under her eyes were suddenly darker and she looked ill.

Aiden's eyes lit up to see her out of her work uniform and she looked really cute like a little bear. Mia rolled her eyes and walked over to him flicking his forehead.

"Don't get that excited it's pajamas not lingerie idiot." Aiden hissed at her brutal flick and then looked at her with his green eyes scanning her up and down.

"My parents will probably target you so I'd advise you stay close to me from now on."

"How close?" she said rudely. Aiden grabbed her waist and pulled her close.

"I'd prefer this close." Mia broke free and took ten steps back and drew a line with her finger on the carpet.

"Nah I think this will suffice." She said playfully smiling at him. Aiden rolled his eyes at her childish behavior and then began taking off his shirt. Mia blushed to see he hadn't changed one bit, he still had a perfectly toned tanned body. Aiden did this purposely to see her reaction.

"Like what you see?" he said bluntly, Mia averted her eyes and blushed making Aiden laugh.

"Come on Mia, you don't have to be so embarrassed. I can go further if you want." He said devilishly unbuckling his belt.

"You're so annoying, take them off and I run screaming to the hotel staff. You're stronger but I'm faster." She said proudly. Aiden yawned, he'd done a long shift holding meetings all day. Mia could see he was just as exhausted as her.

"You should go to sleep, I'll sleep on the couch." She said innocently feeling slightly guilty she'd kept him up with her impulsive decision.

"It will hurt your back, look the beds big enough for both of us. I swear to you I won't try anything, you have my word." He said placing his on his heart. Mia glared at him warily, she didn't trust him but sleeping on the couch wasn't ideal for her. Sighing she dragged her feet along the carpet and hopped into bed curling up into a tight ball. Aiden got changed and hopped into bed facing away from her trying not to give in to his thoughts. He wanted to hold her tight and kiss her, but didn't want to overwhelm her, they weren't even a couple after all.

"Aiden…" she whispered under her blankets. Aiden groaned in response with his eyes closed.

"It's not your fault your parents are so hell bent on power, I didn't mean what I said in the diner." Aiden felt his heart stop hearing how sweet her voice was, she sounded strangely remorseful.

"It's okay, I'm sorry my parents hurt you. You don't have to tell me yet but just know I'm here when you need too." Aiden turned around and looked at the back of her raven-haired head lay across the cream sheets and he felt so peaceful. He wanted to go to sleep next to her every night without fail, talk like they just did. Mia wasn't as nervous as she thought she would be and to his word he never lay a finger on her the whole night, his warmth made her feel safe. Mia slept peacefully until her work buzzer from her white coat woke her up. It was the emergency call buzzer meaning there was something seriously wrong. Aiden stirred at the sound and felt the whole bed shift as Mia scrambled over the covers to get to it.

"Doctor Mia James speaking, what's the emergency." Jhan breathed a sigh of relief hearing her voice.

"Thank-god are you alright? You left a message saying there was family emergency."

"Y-yeah I'm fine I handled it. I'm sorry for leaving shift it was very unprofessional of me." Aiden watched Mia shake in panic and could see she was really distressed over last nights antics.

"Don't worry the staff were very understanding and there were no incidents, I understand today's your day off but we could use your help on the ward." She said sadly. Mia knew that tone.

"Which patients and what level is the episode." Jhan paused for a second then told Mia the worst news she could.

"Level 3…It's your mother Mia, she managed to steal a scalpel from the nurse this morning and is currently threatening her life. She keeps requesting you." Mia felt her whole body go numb in shock. Aiden watched her stiffen up and rushed out of bed and get dressed.

"I'll be there soon, keep all ward staff away from her and do not attempt to apprehend understood. I want 40ccs of Pregabalin on hand, I'll send a red alarm to the director and go from there."

"Yes, doctor understood." Mia stood up in a daze, Aiden placed his hand on her shoulder causing her to jump in fright.

"Mia what's going on?" he said sadly.

"I'm begging you take me to work there's an emergency." She said with tear filled eyes. Aiden didn't question it and got everything ready as she changed. He'd never seen her this upset before and it worried him, she was almost comatose staring off into space with grim expression painted on her face. Aiden guided her downstairs and helped her int the car. Mia didn't say a word and Aiden was trying to figure what was going on without prying into her work.

"Mia it's going to be okay." Mia said nothing and stared ahead, when it came to her mother all professional adequate went out of the window. Aiden pulled into the clinic and ran in with Mia.

"Doctor James, I'll buzz you through."

"Has she harmed herself at all?" Mia said emotionless.

"No, she's currently in a psychotic episode, is this an acquaintance. Should I buzz him through?" Jhan said staring wide eyed at Aiden. She'd seen his face all over the television and magazines. She looked at him like a god, why was Doctor James with someone like him?

"I don't have time to discuss, do what you like." Mia whispered sprinting through the ward doors, Aiden followed behind and could see countless staff members in white uniforms standing outside of a room at the far end.

"I need you to stay out of sight, you'll trigger her." Mia said briefly picking up the needle ready on her desk, Aiden nodded and decided to stay outside of the door while Mia did her job. He couldn't believe he was standing in her work, ward staff looked at him in awe. The richest man in Shanghai standing in their mental health clinic calm as they come…

"Mom…" Mia stood in the doorway and Aiden stiffened up hearing her words, soon his eyes teared up realizing why Mia was so worried. The patient was her mother, a woman he once adored like his own when he dated Mia.
