Chapter 4 - 1.3 The CEO

Making her way back home, Sonja paused outside her front door to fix her expression. Since she "didn't get the assistant position that would greatly benefit her and her family", she had to act accordingly. So, with tears welling in her eyes but with a brilliant smile on her face, Sonja walked in to greet her parents in the living room, and that is what they saw.

Mother Moreno was in distress for her only daughter, as she had only gone out for a few hours but came home in tears, what had happened? Father Moreno was more pissed than anything, as Sonja's qualifications were no less than other candidates for the position. He believed that the position was stolen from her, and it took all the persuasion of Sonja and the calming effect of Mother Moreno to convince him otherwise, even though it was true.

"Dad, I'm fine. The position is someone else's now, and there's nothing else I can do. Plus, I got a job as a bartender at an event-." Sonja's attempts at comforting her father didn't go as planned, as at the mere mention of "bartender", he completely flipped out.

"Bartender? Bartender!? How can you sink so low, Sonja? A bartender is nothing compared to an assistant of a CEO, a powerful one at that." Father Moreno didn't even listen to what else Sonja had to say, as he was too busy lamenting the loss of a stable job for the family. "I know your skills are top notch, but-".

"Dad! The bartending job is only for one night! Plus, it pays well. We can use that to get by comfortably for a few months. It was last-minute hiring, so they were willing to pat that much." Sonja interrupted her father to explain the circumstances. At her words, Father Moreno visibly calmed down, but the frown was still prominent on his face. He still didn't approve, but he had hopes that Sonja can still make it big in America. Plus, this may a good opportunity for Sonja to enjoy the life of a young adult in America.

"Alright," Father Moreno sighed, "but don't be careless when you work, and also keep some pepper spray, as well as-"

"Dad!" Sonja laughed at her father's concern, warmth bubbling up in her chest. "I know, you don't need to worry." Her smile and laughter lightened up the mood in the apartment, pushing away any negative thoughts at that moment. After exchanging a few more words with her parents, Sonja walked back to her room.

As soon as she crashed onto the bed, the system started updating its host on all that had happened and reminders its host needed to remember, nearly causing Sonja's sensitive heart to fail. However, the order of things that the system was telling its host isn't quite in the order of relevancy.

"Host~! The female lead and the CEO are at it like rabbits again~!" The system cutely told its host what was happening with the female lead, but, what that really necessary!?

"System, I know. Get to the point." Sonja coldly cut off the system from saying any more, as she wasn't in the mood to know the female lead's bed adventures.

"Waah! Host is so cold~!" Sniffing a little, the system continued on with its report, albeit with restrained gossip. "The charity ball is tomorrow night, as you already know. The female lead and the male lead, according to the story, will meet there and the story progresses. However, the male lead does stop by the bar before meeting the female lead in the gardens. So, the best way to separate them is during this time interval!"

"So what you're saying is that I should drug the male lead and pretend he passed out from too much alcohol?"

"No! Who's gonna believe that anyway? The male lead is basically a god in this world with astronomically high alcohol tolerance, so a careful examination will find the drugs in his system! Try wasting his time." The system nearly cried as it explained the situation to its host. How was it even possible to drug the male lead and get away with it? If Host doesn't die, she'll lose at least half her life!

"Hmm, that may actually work. Rebekka had gotten his attention by acting shy and reserved, stimulating his interest during the time she went outside to get a breather, so if I can take up the male lead's time, then she won't have that networking opportunity. Shove a couple drinks down his throat and he won't be in any condition to remember someone." Sonja then started to think of drinks and approach to use on the male lead with such vigor, that the system didn't have the heart to tell her that even if the male lead gets drunk, however slim that possibility may be, his memory can still function properly. The system then prayed for its host's safety, as it didn't have a good feeling for what was about to happen.

After a long while of testing out purely hypothetical possibilities on how to distract the male lead, Sonja finally went to bed, to the relief of her system, who was fretting all day long. What they didn't know, however, was that Sonja's attempt to distract the male lead will work well, a little too well...
