Chapter 6 - a different side of him?

"You met Jeremy didn't you?"

I immediately tensed up, my eyes widening. Just the thought of the guy scared me.

"No I d-didn't."

"Like I'll believe that. Tell me what he said."

"I didn't see him!"

"You didn't know his name before, you moron."

"I could have ju-"

"Oh my fucking God Liam just tell me."  He snapped.

"Mind your own damn business Matthew." I said and turned to go back in but he reached out and held my hand to stop me.

"Why do you have to be so difficult?" He said losing patience.

As much as I wanted to tell him, I couldn't. 'but wouldn't Jeremy leave you alone if he knew you had Matthew on your side?' the logical side of my brain suggested.

He would, he definitely would. But I just couldn't bring myself to tell him.

"I'm not being difficult."

I gently released my hand, opened the door and walked in.

"Have fun on your date." I said giving him a slight smile, before closing the door.

After a while, I heard his footsteps grow fainter and when I could no longer hear him anymore I finally slid down against the wall hiding my face in my knees.

Dammit.

I didn't even cry after coming back home, why was I crying now?

"Liam? What's wrong?" Cindy said when she noticed me, rushing over.

Crap, I forgot they were home.

"Za-"

"Don't call him, please."

She looked at me with worried eyes, slowly nodding and leaning over to hug me.

"I won't ask you to tell me what happened, but we're here if you need us okay?" She said, concerned.

I nodded, my eye lids suddenly feeling very heavy. Better than dealing with all whats happening anyway.

--------

When I woke up, it was already dark outside. No one was home, well except for a note from Zach.

"Cindy told me you didn't feel too well, but that doesn't really fool me. I've known you for too long to believe that. Anyway, tell me about it when you can, for now I made dinner, warm it up. Make sure to remove the foil completly before microwaving it okay? I'll come over after school with your notes tomorrow. Take care ~"

I smiled like an idiot reading it. He can be really sweet when you need him.

I walked over to see a dish of Japanese curry, that looked a hundred times better than the one I had made.

After dinner, I couldn't sleep so I took out a book, reading and eventually getting lost in the book.

I heard my phone ring, not really seeing who it was I picked if up.

"Hello?"

The familiar voice registered as I tried to suppress my anger.

"Dad?"

"Liam, I haven't talked to you in a bit, how are you doing?"

"I'm fine." I said trying not to sound too rude.

"I was wondering, do you wanna visit me? You haven't seen John in a while-"

"No, I have classes."

"What about summer break?"

"I'm working then."

"Oh okay then. " He said sounding disappointed. I would have agreed to go, but I'm better off not meeting him or that dreaded family of his.

He's probably going on a long trip again, and wants me to take care of John. John was my step brother, and I got along with him just fine.

He and I both knew, dad didn't care for me. He just didn't want John to be alone.

I heard anothe ring. This time, it was the  door bell. I walked over to the door, my anger making me short tempered.

I opened a door, almost certain I would smash it in their face no matter who it was.

I looked up, only to see Matthew standing there, hands awkwardly in his pocket.

"Um I just wanted to check up on you... I think." He said slightly red.

I couldn't help it, he looked adorable blushing trying to not look at me. My scowl fell, as I smiled at him.

"I'm okay, if that's what you're worried about."

"I'm not worried about you or any-"

"Hey Matt, can we go already?" I heard a voice call. Oh, He was on a date before this, I remembered.

My smile dropped.

"You can go, I'll come later." He said, looked at me, then turned back.

"Actually I'll see you in school tomorrow."

The girl frowned, but eventually drove away.

"Why aren't you going with her?"

"We didn't drink much, it's fine."

"Why are you guys driving after drinking?"

"She older than me so she should be responsible for that not me. "

"You're into older girls?"

"Into? She's my sister you moron."

My face turned red as I tried to hold back a sigh of relief. Relief? Why was I relieved?

"Why are you so red?" He reached out to touch my face stopping half way when he realized what he was doing.

"I-its nothing! Come in!" I said and quickly rushed in.

Damnit, what's wrong with me today?

"Want some tea?"

"Sure."

"Oh, by the way, what made you think she was my date?"

"Perry said you guys are going on a double date..."

"Oh that, he just wanted to see if Zach gets jealous." He said as if it were obvious.

Wait, Zach?

"he likes Zach!?"

"Any problem?"

"no I was just kinda surprised."

I paused for a bit.

"I'm glad though."

I smiled fondly.

What? Zach deserves someone who truly treasures him. He's annoying but he's a good guy.

"Why were you so red then?" He asked after thinking for a while.

"Hmm?" I said dumbfounded, as I turned to look back at him.

He suddenly got up and walked over, cornering me in against the kitchen counter, his hands caging me.

"You like him?"

"No! He's my best friend, I don't like Zach!"

I said my face turning red again.

"Then Perry?"

"What? Ofcourse not!"

"Then why were you red?"

"I wasn't red!"

"See you're red again! Who is it then?"

He said leaning in, my hands being the only thing separating us.

"H-hey let me go."

He immediately stepped back, realizing what he's doing and stuffing his hands back into his pockets, slightly pouting. Cute.

"Sorry."

I turned back trying to make myself less red. I never blush, seriously, whats up with me today?

I walked back with my 2 cups of tea, handing one to Matthew.

"Wanna watch a movie?"

"Sure. What do you wanna watch?"

"I'm fine with whatever."

"Romance it is."

I chuckled sitting down beside him on the floor. Half way through the movie I noticed it was literally the most cliché movie ever.

I smiled sheepishly, which he noticed.

"What?"

"It's nothing. I just didn't think you'd be a hopeless romantic."

He huffed and looked Away.

We watched the movie in silence, so silent that I flinched when I felt his head fall on my shoulder.

I tensed up, but relaxed as I saw Matthew sleeping. Idk what it was about him, but it made me feel strangely calm.

'he probably won't find out' I justified and let him sleep, turning of the movie and falling asleep against him, peacefully unlike the evening this time.
