Chapter 6 - Paul

My wedding day came very fast, I did not even see the days pass by. In the tuxedo shop and wedding dresses, I was sitting next to my best friend. We watched my mother and my future bride choosing the wedding dress. All I wanted was for them to make up their minds.

"They seem to be getting along," Jake commented as he moved his cell phone, apparently sending messages.

I agreed with him. Really, my mother was getting on very well with Emily. After that day at the restaurant, my mother made an effort to make Emily feel like family. Which was good, we were going to get married after all. It still was not in my head. My marriage.

"What do you think of that?" Emily asked smiling, showing me a wedding dress. It was really beautiful, but what did I know about wedding dresses? And she had already shown me ten.

"It's beautiful," I said, smiling politely. Just as I said in the others who came before this.

"Really nice," Jake agreed. He stopped looking at his cell phone and looked at the dress.

"That'll be the one," she decided. Finally she made up her mind.

But this surprised me, was she really going to choose that one?

_ Are you sure dear? _ Mom asked looking at the dress, she still wanted to look for more? _ You can choose whatever you want.

_ No_ she giggled, she looked at him again_ This is perfect.

Mom smiled at me.

"If that's what you want." That will be it, "I replied.

_ Thanks. And your tux? "Mom asked.

_ I already bought_ I gave a small smile.

_ Great. Is everything all ready then? Impression mine or did she seem relieved of more about it?

After a while we left the store and went to lunch at a restaurant nearby.

_ Jake you bought your tuxedo right? _ My mother looked suspicious to him.

_ But of course Mrs. D, Paul and I bought together_ replied_ I do not want to be a badly dressed godfather.

_ Yeah even more with these tattoos_ she took his arm showing Emily while shaking her head_ I hope they do not appear too much in the church.

"I'll try," he replied submissively. My mom could get anything from Jake was awesome. And he loved it.

Lunch was served and I found myself wondering what my life would be like with this wedding while we ate. Surely it would be a quiet life. Emily was a beautiful and funny woman. She knew how to behave in society and was intelligent. But I realized she was hiding something. I guess like me she did not really want to get married.

We would be the perfect couple more or less and it would not be so difficult to go to bed with her. But why could not I just be happy about it? Maybe it's the contract I signed, so I can manage the companies in her family. That was a mess talking about it.

I'm not even sure where to start fixing the mess your father did. That would be really tiring. I sighed loudly.

"What is it?" Jake asked.

"Thinking of work," I replied, it was not a lie.

"What about the honeymoon?" My mother asked.

_ I do not know_ I looked at Emily_ I did not think about it. Is that you?

_ I'm not sure_ did not seem right about that, so he smiled at my mother_ I work, it works. So maybe we should wait a little longer.

She was right, I had a lot of work to do but why did I have the feeling she was avoiding it? Since I was not very interested in this marriage, I did not go into that thought a lot.

"We'd better wait a little," I agreed. "Getting the Raymond family business on track will take time and I'll be too busy to travel.

_ This is very annoying, _ my mother complained. Can not do anything about it?

"No," I replied with a shrug, "after all this was more for my fiancé's family than for me, she could wait right?" I have to do this soon or things can get complicated.

And the subject on our honeymoon passed. My cell phone rang.

"If you'll excuse me, I'll take you outside." Paul Drummond.

_ Drummond_ was my secretary_ The commitment of the two is here.

_ Thanks Lena I'm coming back_ I went back inside and my mother made a face.

"Do not tell me what to bring you back," he complained.

"I have, yes." I kissed her forehead and kissed Emily's cheek as she rose to say goodbye. "I'll see you later.

_ OK see ya.

Jake stood smiling at my mother with affection.

"Mrs. D, I love you." He kissed her.

_ I bet you say that for all_ my mother plays. He laughs.

"But to you it is true. I'm going with this guy. See you later.

Two days later, my bachelor party, in my apartment. Just Jake and I because I was tired. A beer, pizza and football on the TV.

"You get married tomorrow," Jake muttered, stretched out on my couch with a beer.

A is? Tell me the obvious, asshole.

_ And, it looks like there's someone in TPM_ he sipped his beer.

"Shut up, I lay down on the other couch." "Is it just us for my bachelor party?" I asked.

_ Yes_ he looked at me crooked_ want to call someone else?

I looked at the phone that was too far away and I was lazy.

_ I did not answer.

We were silent watching TV.

"I can call the girls," he offered.

I knew who the girls were, Lisa, Kelly and Tessa. Strangely enough, Jake was friends with them. So much so that he was in their group of messages and spent a lot of time talking to them.

After that lunch I personally had not met Lisa but Jake was different. He dated them all the time while he went to watch Kelly's volleyball game. They became friends. Which I thought was strange.

"How can you be friends with a bunch of teenagers?" I asked him.

_ It is incredible, serious_ he cheered up smiling_ We went out for ice cream yesterday.

_ You drinking ice cream? _ I found grace.

"No," he agreed with a beastly grin on his face. "I've never liked them, but these girls are great. Did you know that Tessa is a computer genius?

Before I could answer anything he remained crushed.

"She was the one who took care of my entire computer system. My system is twice as fast. She's great. And Kelly? She had a volleyball game last week. Lisa is very intelligent too. Did you know that she is studying alone on the bankruptcy of the company? You should talk to her about it. She has great ideas.

I did not know any of this, but I did not say anything. I was a little jealous of him, but I was not going to admit it at all.

"Do you want me to send messages to them?" She asked me again. "They would come. They adore me. They think me a really cool adult. Thinking about comes we are 11 years older than them. Creed.

"I did not decide, I barely go out with Emily, going out with her sister would be wrong. We'd better be alone with both of us."

He typed a bunch of something on his cell phone and waited a moment.

_ They are also in a party _ he showed me a picture of the three of them in a big room, they were all in pajamas with green gooey things in their face. And little things in the hair.

"What are they doing?" I asked, amused.

"You're getting married tomorrow," he replied. "Her sister too, they're getting ready for tomorrow. Unlike men, women need a lot more training. That's what I was told.

Irritating the fact that he is acting as if he knew more about women than I do. Or maybe I'm just mad at the fact that they are so friends that they exchange photos between messages.

"You know," he began carefully, "I do not really like your fiancée. She looks kind of fake.

"Are you going to speak ill of her the day before the wedding?" I asked, not wanting to acknowledge that he was right. "I should have spoken earlier.

But on second thought, it would not make any difference since my father signed a contract. This marriage was going to happen one way or the other.

_ From what I understood from the girls' conversations she treated very badly, Lisa. The two do not get along very well.

"That really does not matter," I replied, though I really cared. "I'm getting married tomorrow." I looked up at my best friend lying on my couch. "You'll be there by my side, right?

"As I've always been and always will be," he replied smiling and lifting the beer can so we could toast.

_ Great. This is the best friend I know.

"I'm your only best friend.
