Chapter 44 - War (2)

It was a the moment that they finished cleaning the first few rooms on the second floor that things started to get hard. With the emergence of the wyverns mixed up with the orcs, the attack power of the enemy dungeon became a real threat to the monster's lives.

Jin had mentioned before the battle that he didn't want any of them to die. However, the fight had barely started and they had already lost some of them. Of course, in the training they had, they knew how dangerous war was and that they may die.

As such, the monsters weren't afraid of death and completely accepted it. It may be because they were hunted in the outside world and they had to fight to live on.

So, when their comrades died fighting in the enemy dungeon, they continued to fight to protect those still alive.

As they lost more and more monsters, they managed to fight their way to the end of the second floor.

"We found the stairs leading to the third floor!" The one reporting was an harpie that was in charge of locating the enemies by using her fast speed to find them and leave before they could attack her.

When they received the news, Iris nodded her head and made a wave of her hand for the monsters to follow her. She with the other leaders had not fought yet as they needed to keep their energy against the boss monster and the dungeon master.

After a little while, they made their way to the stairs made of rocks and finally entered the third and last floor. In front of them was gigantic stone doors with lot of different shiny symbols on each of them. The symbols were moving as if they had a life and when the monsters stopped in front of the doors, they opened by themselves.

The doors slowly opened and on the other side, was completely different than they had thought. The room was extremely big, as big as the training floor which could easily hold more than three hundred monsters. Also, the room was filled with mountains, rivers and different peaks made completely of rocks which could pierce one who fell on it.

When everyone saw these peaks, they understood that this was a way for the cockatrice to kill the victims easily. Just dropping them on the sharp end. In the sky was only what seemed like a nest made of rocks and they believed that the boss monster may live there.

The harpies immediately made their way to the sky looking for the boss monster and maybe the dungeon master. The dungeon leader could either fight with the numerable monsters in his dungeon or with the boss monster. Or, lastly, it was possible that he would wait in the room with the dungeon core which would only open if the boss monster died.

The dark elves went with the fastest speed in the forest while the others stayed with Lilliana who was transformed in her dragon form, ready to fight with the last monster.

It didn't take really long. While the floor was extremely big, a cockatrice was very big itself and Jin had showed the monsters what it looked like. This kind of monster seemed like it had a chicken head and body with two large wings on it's back. Those wing which looked very weak were actually very deadly as each side of the wing were extremely sharp and could even cut a rock with it's wings only. Without forgetting the claws on it's two legs and the long tail which looked like a giant serpent.

Because of this, when they found the monsters, the harpies didn't dare linger near it for more than a moment as the only ones who could give a good fight with this monster were the leaders.

Of course, if they could see the boss monster, than the boss monster could see them as well. So, as soon as they left in high speed towards Lilliana who was near the entrance, the monster jumped and followed them, almost catching up to them before their dragon defended the few harpies who had found the boss monster.

Lilliana had grown up really fast and was now a little bigger than an ordinary one story house.

So, when the two collided, the enemy monster was easily pushed back. She didn't have to be scared of this monster as her scales were as hard as iron and could more or less protect most of the attacks coming from the wings and the claws of the beast.

As for Iris and the others, they immediately followed Lilliana to offer help. The harpies would attack the beast from the back while the dark elves would shot arrows towards the soft spots which were the belly or the eyes.

They continued to fight this way. And soon enough, with everyone attacking together with Lilliana which was blocking and taking all the damages, they managed to take down the monster. It hadn't been easy as it was very fast and every time both big monsters which were the dragon and cockatrice moved their wings, it gave trouble for the others to fly and the arrows to hit their target. Because of this, it took more than ten minutes all together to finish the boss.

They found the boss to be easy to kill as it didn't have much intelligence and only attacked the dragon in front of it as it was the greatest threat. As such, everyone else had an easy time but spent a lot of energy to attack since it had a great defence.

When the final monster fell to the ground dead, they all looked at the center of the mountain. There was a small tremor and a light came out from the bottom of the peak. A door had appeared from nowhere and was opening showing the inside of a room.

And finally, they saw the dungeon master. A giant bird which was trying to show it's might by extending it's wings as far as it could. It was currently protecting the only furniture in the room which was a small table with a round object on it.

Of course the small object was... the dungeon core.
