Chapter 46 - You can't make enemies of them now.

"Well, isn't this a nice surprise?" Yuri drawled as she looked at Hyun-Shik's form, standing in front of her door. "What brought you here?"

Song Hyun-Shik was surprised at the tone of his girlfriend's voice. He had expected that she'd be upset, but he didn't expect this level of aggression from her.

Near the end of the day, he saw that his girlfriend had sent him several 'angry' messages and several missed calls and he all but rushed to his girlfriend's apartment the minute he saw them. He had been with Chung Ji-Eun in the morning and had been in company meetings the rest of the day that he wasn't able to see or hear his phone.

"Yuri," he said, his tone light and appeasing. "Let me in, please? So we can talk?"

The obviously upset woman turned her back to the door and walked back in, letting him come inside without so much as a word.

"You can sit there," she snapped when Hyun-Shik attempted to get close to her, pointing to the couch beside her instead.

"May I ask what's got you so mad?" Hyun-Shik asked, trying to mask his annoyance at the way she was acting around him. "I told you I'm not going to be available for the next few days, right?"

Yuri's mouth twitched as she struggled to control her annoyance.

The day had turned into night and her mood had not improved at all. From the ruined shopping trip, the heated exchange between her and the heiress' dog, her disastrous photo shoot, and now this. It seemed as if demons were out to ruin her day and she had been reacting accordingly to their skit.

'Could this day get any better?' Her thoughts dripped with sarcasm.

"You really are something, aren't you?" Yuri began, her voice low and eyes steady. "This, what's happening between us, was not what we agreed on."

"What are you talking about, Yuri?" Hyun-Shik sighed heavily. "Did something happen?"

Clearly not understanding her position, Yuri's anger all but tried to consume her thoughts.

"I agreed that you marry that girl," she said. "I agree that you do all you can to save your company. But what I didn't agree on was you ignoring me and leaving me all alone to deal with everything else."

Hyun-Shik frowned. "What are you saying? What everything else?"

Yuri stood up and raised an eyebrow at him.

"I saw you and your precious heiress at the Grand Gala Square today, you know," she sneered. "You look so happy shopping together. Did you go to a jeweler's shop? Things must be getting serious, huh!"

'It made me so mad, you lying bastard,' she added as an afterthought. 'That I'm the only one suffering this much humiliation under the circumstances.'

"And...?" Hyun-Shik sighed. "You know that-"

"And?! Why aren't you saying anything about it?!" She wanted to scream so bad, that her fingernails dug deep into her palms. "I called you and sent you messages and you didn't even do so much as read them."

Yuri remembered her frustration when she saw that her messages went unread the whole day.

"What do you want me to say?" Hyun-Shik answered. "Is it really necessary for me to tell you every place I go to with Chung Ji-Eun? You know we have to act the part, don't you? Yuri, we've already talked about this."

Yuri's eyes narrowed dangerously. "That is not what I meant and you know it!"

"Then what do you mean?" Hyun-Shik asked, a faint note of frustration in his voice.

"You could've told me about your plans," she said in an indignant tone. "That way I could have at least saved myself from being humiliated... Even if no one knows about us!"

Hyun-Shik pinched the bridge of his nose, trying to contain his emotions.

"And there's something else too," she continued. "That girl's secretary told me off today."

Surprised, Hyun-Shik looked up at Yuri. "What did you say? That girl's secretary... Did you mean Secretary Oh Jaehyun?"

"Was that his name? I didn't know," she sneered. "Are you even surprised? I guess he learned all of that jazz from her."

"Told you off? How did that happen?" Hyun-Shik was so confused. "How did you two even meet?"

"He was at my company earlier," she said. "On an errand."

'Yes, that's right. Ji-Eun recently had business with my Aunt's company.' Hyun-shik thought to himself.

"From what I heard he knows all about this arrangement you're having with his boss," Yuri continued. "He told me that I hold no argument over this deal you have with that Chung girl! As if I'm the one who came in between you two!"

Hyun-Shik shook his head. "Explain, Yuri," he said quickly. "Because I know that person. He's not really the type to say anything unless..."

"Are you saying I did something to set him off?" She spat. "He insulted me!"

Hyun-Shik stood up and held Yuri by the shoulders, attempting to calm her down.

"Okay. Okay, " he said in a soothing voice. "I understand, Yuri. You're upset with me because I ignored you, I acknowledge that. You're pissed off at another person because of what they said, sure. But here's what I'd like for you to understand too."

Gaining quite the assurance that Yuri wouldn't physically push him away, he rubbed her shoulders.

"Secretary Oh is a person in the business world who is very well known for his diligence and loyalty," he said. "Of course, he would know all about Chung Ji-Eun's affairs since they're practically joined at the hip. He is a powerful force behind the Chung Group, you know."

Before Yuri could say anything, he jumped right in again.

"Yuri, he wouldn't say anything out of his station if he wasn't provoked," Hyun-Shik said. "So, tell me, what did you say to him exactly?"

"I just felt like," Yuri started to say, her tone rising. "I just think that they're plotting something, you know. Using you to get a hold of your company. Or something else. I don't know. I mean, that guy even knew about my company's policy. All about the dating ban, so..."

Hyun-Shik was quiet as he listened to her tirade, mulling over some things.

"Did he actually threaten to out you to your company?" He questioned when she finished speaking.

"I don't know," she said. "He just said that any scandal can destroy both of us. And that... girl can walk away from it without a scratch."

'Well, he is right about that. With Chung Ji-Eun being more powerful than him and whatnot, she could really walk away from him and their arrangement without so much as a backward glance' Hyun-Shik thought seriously.

But still, he can't help but feel a little bit annoyed.

"Yuri, I'm sorry about what happened, okay?" He said gently. "I've just been so busy that I wasn't able to pay attention to you. I know this is not ideal. But you can't make enemies of them now. It's not going reflect on us well."

After making sure that she was calmer, he hugged Yuri and sat her back down on the couch.

"Okay," he said. "Why don't we do this? I can stay here tonight and we can do whatever you want. We can talk about what's bothering you, we can go for a drive, anything. And then tomorrow or soon after, I can deal with Secretary Oh."

Yuri obviously pleased with his plan, rested her head on his chest, snuggling closer.

"You'd do that for me?" She asked in a strained voice. "He might say something to his boss, you know."

"Well, he might be important to the Chung Group," he began stroking her hair. "But he is still just an executive under the circumstances and had no business saying those things to you."

Yuri felt her anger slowly evaporate when she heard those words.

"Thank you," she said lazily. "Can we maybe go to your villa tonight, Hyun?"

Hyun-Shik raised an eyebrow at her.

"I really missed you," she ran a hand inside his suit. "I know you missed me too. Maybe we can..."

"I promised you we'd do anything you want," he grabbed her hand and pulled her off the couch. "Let's go now."

Yuri smiled as he decidedly led her from her apartment to his car, knowing that it was going to be a long and exciting night for the both of them.
