Chapter 50 - Did I cross a line?

'He used to be?'

Song Hyun-Shik spent the whole morning spacing out inside his office.

'They used to be together?'

He stared blankly at the piece of document in front of him. He knew what the document was for and that it was for something important, but he couldn't think straight right now. His secretary had checked in on him a few times already since he had been missing a lot of calls, but he didn't care. He had a lot on his mind and he sure was not getting any reprieve from it anytime soon.

"Oh Jaehyun..." he said the name slowly as if dragging out the name would light some sort of vague idea in his mind. "Who the hell are you anyway...?"

With mild annoyance, he pulled out his phone and began to send a text.

'Find me everything you can about Oh Jaehyun, an executive of Chung Group of Companies.'

He dropped his on his desk after sending the message and stared for a while as the phone dimmed.

Hyun-Shik knew he is acting out a character at the moment, but he had to know what makes this person so damn important to the Chung family. Both the Elder and Ji-Eun are overly fond of him, with her even stating they used to be 'together'.

Did she dump him? Or was it the other way around? Does the President know? And why the hell was he working for her if they were exes?

"What the hell..." he sighed heavily.

He had to admit, Oh Jaehyun didn't seem to have a bad bone in him as his concern and actions never went against his being professional on his job. Hyun-Shik knew he could never work alongside an ex-girlfriend or a past fling, but here was this annoying saint of a man, being his ex-girlfriend's employee working with her day and night, making him look like dirt. At the very least, he was aware that he was dirt reincarnated wanting to wed his family's savior and keep his current flame.

Shameless, he knew. But here was an offer he knew would never come again and he was all for throwing away his pride out of the window to save himself and his family.

He recalled the way Ji-Eun said those words and frowned a little.

'He used to be. But I don't see how that has anything to do with you.' Her words were clear and held a firm tone. Right then and there, she drew a clear line between him and her secretary. And it all but made him feel like a bucket of cold water had been splashed on him.

'Did I cross a line?' He thought to himself as ran a hand through his hair. 'I didn't even know there was a line when it comes to Oh Jaehyun.'

His phone buzzed and he looked at it lazily.

'I will send the report as soon as I can.'

A reply to his message. He sighed and continued to brood.

'If she has this wonderful specimen of a man beside her, why did she go through all those blind dates? Why didn't the President suggest that she marry him instead? I doubt the President would discriminate based on money and status. And if he knew about their past relationship..."

He shook his head, all these questions making his head spin. He was tempted to just march up to Ji-Eun and demand answers to satisfy his curiosity. Given her nature, she would for sure give him the answers he needed.

'But do I want to hear that from her?'

"No," he answered his question. "Not right now."

He reached for his phone again.

'Ji-Eun, I'm sorry for what happened this morning.' He began typing. 'Clearly, I was in the wrong for what happened. If I had offended you, let me make up for it. Secretary Oh was just naturally protecting you and I didn't mean to give him any directives. I promise to be more careful and to not make any mistake with Yuri.'

He contemplated typing out the rest of what he wanted to say, but he chose to end it with that. Maybe she doesn't want to see or talk to him right now. Someone like her... Maybe she needs to cool off too?

He sent his message to Ji-Eun and turned his phone over.

'I can't focus.'

"How long is this day going to be?" He wondered as he stared at the documents he was supposed to be working on.
