Thomas Kent, Canya's maternal grandfather was married to Alicia Whimper decades ago. Whimper was a sorceress who had inherited her powers from her mother. Kent and Whimper's first daughter had been Patricia, Canya's mother. Patricia was also a sorceress and her powers ran through her bloodline. This power was passed from mother to her firstborn daughter and so forth. If the firstborn daughter passed away before age thirty, while her firstborn daughter would still have the powers, if she had any daughter, her sister who was the second born daughter to her mother would become automatically gain her powers.
Canya was the second born daughter to Patricia. Her sister passed away before reaching thirty while Canya was still in her first year at the University of Noya. This meant that her sister's powers became hers. However, the powers remained dormant for as long as they were not awakened.
"Grandpa, what if sister never had a daughter." Canya asked.
"I do not know. It is very rare for the firstborn girls to die prematurely. I have only heard of one case, apart from yours and there was no second born daughter, just two sons. However, this power as far as I know is never lost in a bloodline. One day you will have to visit the Valley of Ravens. Many descendants of Her Celestial's disciples reside there. They will tell you more about your kind and the bloodline of my wife, your bloodline."
"And how do I awaken my powers?"
"You have been using magic since your sister died, right?"
"Yes, but they were little tricks Priscilla had taught me."
"Canya," The old man laughed, "Priscilla teaches the way of Her Celestial. Her students turn out to be very powerful individuals, I reckon that. However, they have to have some skills up their sleeves. If your powers were as dormant as your sister left you, you would have grasped nothing Priscila had taught you."
"You mean my powers had been awakened by the time she first taught me?" Canya's eyebrows were up in surprise.
"Yes, and you are probably the only second born to have ever awakened her powers." The old man gave a proud laugh.
"When did I awaken my powers?"
"When you lay with the mage. Your powers need a mage to be awakened. However, you are of Her Celestial and he is of the gods of people from Cursed Town. This makes the two of you the nemesis of the other. In his quest, he will have to kill you and vice versa, if you haven't."
"Is that the way it has to be? I mean while I killed him, I still love him an I wish I had never done such a thing."
"Child, your kind and the mage are two rare creatures clouded with mystery and no one can claim to understand the two of you. I do not know whether you actually killed him or not but to say that that is the way things have to be is a baseless conclusion."
A long silence once again drifted in the room. Canya was glad she had made this visit although a lot of questions had been conceived. She wanted answers and a sooner visit to the Valley of Ravens would be necessary. She agreed that she would spend the rest of the day with her grandfather and would leave the next day.
…
Priscilla had never been as excited as she was today. When Her Celestial left for seclusion three thousand years ago, she had tasked very few individuals with the killing of the mage. She was only a keeper then, several ranks below the few who had been given this task. They had all been failing and most had already given up.
One day, as she wandered the streets of Noya, she chanced upon Canya who became her friend as soon as they met. With time, she learned that she was the second born daughter to Patricia, and her sister who was Patricia's firstborn had died a year ago. Patricia had been her friend but as soon as she was made the chief priestess, she had been so busy that she had not even known of her death.
It took her some months to discover that Canya and the mage were good friends. She asked Canya about it and the latter told her how she had wanted to have Eddie for herself but had failed. When she heard this, she had made a pause on her mission to kill Eddie until Canya mated with him. This had been successful and she had been trying to convince Canya to kill Eddie, for she was the only person who had the highest chances of succeeding. She had failed but that had given them a chance to know of a love girl who had unknowingly helped them capture Eddie.
She was currently before an altar performing a ritual when a white-clad old man appeared on top of the altar.
"How audacious, Priest of Death. Since when did you appear before me like that?" She looked at him angrily.
"Madam, Green Wyvern has taken the mage from us." The priest said with a trembling voice.
"What?" Priscilla did not believe what she had just heard.
"Yes, it seems it has marked him and that is probably the reason why we have failed to kill him all this time."
"Summon all the fourteen priests to High Shrine. We have work to do." She commanded before leaving the room where the altar was.
